Wonderwall.com is taking a look back at the stars who won and lost the fashion game in January 2018, starting with Katy Perry… If trash bags came in red, they might look something like the Stella McCartney one-shoulder sack that the singer wore during the designer's presentation in Los Angeles on Jan. 16. We like the ruffled neckline. And we're always down for a gown with pockets. But that's where our affinity for this monstrous frock ends! Now keep reading for more of the month's biggest celeb style hits and misses…
Kate Hudson donned our least favorite look of the SAG Awards: a pink heart-print Valentino gown with long sleeves, a tiered skirt and black lace along the high neckline. The cutesy dress gave us major Little Bo Peep vibes — and not in a good way.

Halle Berry turned heads in a body-baring strapless Reem Acra gown that she donned during the NAACP Image Awards. The black-and-burgundy dress featured a train and a sheer skirt that left little to the imagination. While she looked absolutely stunning, we have to say: This look makes us real nervous. Ultimately, we're not sure so much skin is the way to go during one of the biggest red carpet events of the season.
Millie Bobby Brown donned the most divisive look of the SAG Awards: a pink sequined high-low Calvin Klein by Appointment halter dress with white Converse sneakers. While we usually despise kicks on the red carpet during an award show, we have to say: There was something refreshing about seeing the 13-year-old fashion darling in such a youthful frock. And we were wild about her pigtail buns — so cute!
With the visible cups on the bodice, the Dolce & Gabbana dress that Reese Witherspoon donned during the PGA Awards made it look like she'd suffered a major wardrobe malfunction. And that is never a good thing!
Helen Mirren killed it in Alice + Olivia's Levon shorts — which are basically briefs attached to a sheer skirt featuring the word "feminist" embroidered in sequins — during a visit to the SiriusXM Studios in New York City on Jan. 12. She completed her bold look with a black leather jacket over a pink top and multi-strap ankle boots. Preach!
Simple yet stunning! Mandy Moore impressed during the SAG Awards in a cornflower blue Ralph Lauren Collection slip dress with iridescent gold detailing.
Watch out, world! Storm Reid has arrived. The star of the upcoming adaptation of "A Wrinkle in Time" had a major fashion moment during the NAACP Image Awards in a Yanina Couture LBD with a sheer long-sleeved, high-neck, midi-length overlay with white polka dots and zigzags along the hemline, cuffs and collar. If this is what she's dishing out at age 14, we can't wait to see what the future holds for the burgeoning star!
After a run of divisive style outings, Margot Robbie finally hit an undeniable fashion home run with the stunning Michael Lo Sordo gown that she donned during the Australian premiere of "I, Tonya" in Sydney on Jan. 23. The ultra-feminine open-back number featured a thigh-high slit and a plunging neckline. Her styling really took things to the next level — let's take a closer look…
Margot Robbie pulled her hair back in a messy updo with loose wisps in the front. She rocked a simple but glam makeup look and accessorized with Tiffany & Co. diamond hoop earrings. Lovely!
Orange you glad Tracee Ellis Ross donned this stunning Tory Burch gown during the PGA Awards? We are! The "Black-ish" actress was SO on-trend in the embellished long-sleeved dress, which featured a high neckline and a tie in the back.
The color and silhouette of the sparkly Preen dress that Cate Blanchett wore during the IWC Gala in Geneva on Jan. 16 were perfection. We even love the black lace along the asymmetrical hemline. But why, why, WHY is there a random panel of that same black lace tacked haphazardly to the bodice of her dress?
Our favorite fashion "It" girl, Yara Shahidi, rocked a strapless wide-leg Ralph Lauren Collection jumpsuit with an epic bow on the back during the SAG Awards. The "Grown-ish" star ditched the train as she worked her way down the red carpet, making this one of the most creative and versatile looks of the day. Let's take a look…
Yara Shahidi would've topped the best-dressed list during the SAG Awards even without the epic bow on the back of her Ralph Lauren Collection jumpsuit, doncha think?
Eva Longoria had our least favorite maternity-wear moment of 2018 so far during the PGA Awards. The actress, who is pregnant with her first child, donned a bizarre Saint Laurent minidress with pointy shoulders and massive statement sleeves that left her looking completely shapeless.
So posh! Victoria Beckham served up some serious style in a retro menswear-inspired ensemble — mustard wide-leg slacks with a striped button-down over a burgundy turtleneck with an overcoat — at Louis Vuitton's presentation during Paris Fashion Week Men's on Jan. 18.
Vanessa Kirby donned our favorite look of the SAG Awards: a sleeveless pink Valentino number with embroidered flowers and a sheer skirt. We may not have been wild about her overly gelled updo, but we can't deny that her gown is a work of art.
Jaimie Alexander put a funky twist on the classic ballerina silhouette in a black drop-waist Christian Siriano confection with bizarre panels of navy blue tulle in the skirt during the PGA Awards. We love everything about this dramatic dress except the tulle. If only the designer had gone with a less airy fabric!
An off-the-shoulder purple PVC dress with a bustier top and a thigh-high slit should be tacky, right? But not on Ashley Graham, who slayed the look during Revlon's Live Boldly campaign launch in New York City on Jan. 24.
We cannot believe we have to say this again, but apparently we do: No more sheer black dresses, people! Elsa Pataky donned one of the tackiest yet (by Dolce & Gabbana) during the premiere of "12 Strong" in New York City on Jan. 16. Elsa, girl, your body looks great, but you are above such obvious attempts at attention-grabbing.
Leah Remini isn't typically a name that comes to mind when we think of the best dressed stars in Hollywood, but she truly wowed during the PGA Awards in a floral lace Valentino gown with a collar in various shades of red. This just might be her best red carpet look ever!
The Balmain pantsuit that Hailee Steinfeld donned before an appearance on "Lip Sync Battle LIVE: A Michael Jackson Celebration" in Los Angeles on Jan. 18 was — in the immortal words of Cher from "Clueless" — "a full-on Monet." It was fine upon first glance, but once we took a closer look, we noticed the flaws: the sheer pants, the faux fur trim on the jacket, etc.
Brittany Snow donned our favorite LBD of the month — a sleeveless Haney minidress with side cutouts — during the Entertainment Weekly pre-SAG Awards party in Los Angeles on Jan. 20. We especially loved the way she unexpectedly accessorized with brown over-the-knee Casadei boots.
Alison Brie took too much inspiration from her '80s-set Netflix show "GLOW" when she chose her look for the SAG Awards. With the iridescent lightning-bolt details along the neckline and down one side, her one-sleeved red Dundas dress looked like a costume from another era. Bummer!
Allison Williams certainly donned the most interesting look of the PGA Awards: a leather Ulyana Sergeenko jumpsuit with asymmetrical flower details, a bustier top and poof sleeves. Whether you loved it or hated it, there's no doubt in our mind that it caught your attention — and sometimes that's enough!
Rita Ora has landed among our fashion misses more times than we could possibly count, so we wanted to take a moment to highlight the first truly fantastic ensemble she's donned in a while (possibly in years). The singer-actress raised temperatures in a shimmery red Alexandre Vauthier minidress with a turtleneck and bell sleeves during a night out in Paris on Jan. 21. Well done, Rita! (Finally.)
Reese Witherspoon looked gorgeous in a green off-the-shoulder Zac Posen gown during the SAG Awards. But the true showstoppers were her accessories…
All eyes were on the emerald-and-diamond drop earrings by Gismondi 1754 that Reese Witherspoon rocked during the SAG Awards.
We know Frankie Shaw is still relatively new to the whole red carpet thing, but that is no excuse for the black slip-ons that the "SMILF" star wore with a multi-colored striped sleeveless dress during the PGA Awards. If she doesn't want to wear heels, that's totally fine — we're all about comfort on the red carpet. But she should at least make sure her footwear matches the rest of her ensemble!
Karlie Kloss was a vision in white in a Carolina Herrera dress during the designer's Good Girl fragrance launch party in London on Jan. 25. The unique number featured cutouts on the bodice that created the illusion of lapel pockets and a collar, and the pleated skirt was equally flirty. If we were going to nitpick (we are), we'd say this: We wish she'd gone with something other than black pumps in terms of her footwear.
Vanessa Grimaldi has been off our radar for months, but she jumped right back on thanks to the ensemble she wore during iHeartRadio's ALTer EGO concert in Los Angeles on Jan. 19. But that's not exactly a good thing. The reality TV star paired skinny jeans with unique V-shaped hems from Style House By Maxie.j with a sheer bodysuit and cropped turtleneck sweater from Eden Sky. Look, you can have a bodysuit or you can have a cropped turtleneck sweater (our pick), but you can't have both!
Marisa Tomei looked award-worthy in a beaded midi-length Laura Basci dress with a high neckline and long sleeves during the SAG Awards. It was one of the most delightfully unexpected looks of the day.
Emilia Clarke's Michael Kors look at the BAFTA Los Angeles Tea Party on Jan. 6 landed among the misses this month. We weren't fans of the super-bright red-and-blue floral-print dress, and we especially didn't love how she paired it with those stark white pumps and a striped purse.
For the premiere of her new show, "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story," in Los Angeles on Jan. 8, Penelope Cruz wore this stunning burgundy velvet gown. We loved the halter neckline and the paneling at the waist and the train, which were all custom designed for the star by Stella McCartney.
The gorgeous Gal Gadot looked beautiful in blue at the National Board of Review Awards Gala in New York City on Jan. 9. The star's Elie Saab gown, which came straight from the designer's runway, featured a one-shouldered asymmetrical neckline and a cutout at the waist that showed just a little bit of skin.
Vanessa Hudgens attended the Art of Elysium Heaven gala in Los Angeles on Jan. 6 in this golden gown, but it wasn't really the billowy Alberta Ferretti number that lost us. No, though the dress was a little excessive, we were more perplexed by that makeup. Let's take a closer look…
Yikes! Up close, Vanessa Hudgens' bright orange eye makeup is even more perplexing, as it seems to fade right into equally orange blush on her cheeks. Sorry, Vanessa, but this look just isn't a winner.
Margot Robbie donned one of her worst looks ever — a strapless black-and-tan striped Chanel confection with a bejeweled belt and ruffles along the neckline and waist — during the Critics' Choice Awards on Jan. 11. Her styling didn't help matters…
Margot Robbie's funky topknot, which she wore with a black velvet bow, belonged with an entirely different ensemble, and her taupe lipstick left her looking washed out. Bummer!
Oh, no! Diane Kruger rocked this awful Alexander McQueen getup at the InStyle and Warner Bros. Golden Globes afterparty in Beverly Hills on Jan. 7. The black pants were fine, but the white top that gave way to tattered fabric strands really lost us. Fortunately, she made up for her fashion faux pas a few days later…
Diane Kruger donned our favorite look of the Critics' Choice Awards on Jan. 11: a divisive white Vera Wang cold-shoulder column dress with slouchy statement sleeves and a chainmail overlay on the bodice. It was a major fashion moment, for sure, whether you liked it or not!
Reese Witherspoon had our favorite street-style moment of the month so far during an outing in Los Angeles on Jan. 10. The Oscar winner paired a three-quarter-sleeve black turtleneck with a super-cute floral-print skirt and accessorized with ankle boots, oversized shades and a whole lot of wrist bling.
One of our favorite style stars hasn't disappointed us in the New Year! Tracee Ellis Ross attended the ABC All-Star Party at the TCA Winter Press Tour in Los Angeles on Jan. 8 in this crisp white blouse and black skirt by Rosetta Getty. But our favorite part? Those marigold Christian Louboutins that brought the perfect pop of color to the ensemble!
Fifty shades of gruesome! It will be difficult to top Rita Ora in the "worst jumpsuit of 2018" competition. The singer and "Fifty Shades of Grey" actress donned this mess of a single-statement-sleeve creation by British brand A.W.A.K.E. at a GQ dinner during London Fashion Week Men's on Jan. 8. We could be down with the asymmetrical top or the wide-leg pants but together, they become a shapeless mass. And her choice of classic diamond bling completely failed to elevate the look.
Angelina Jolie was a vision in white during the Critics' Choice Awards on Jan. 11 in a strapless Ralph & Russo dress with a feathered bodice and asymmetrical skirt. She wisely accessorized with giant diamond earrings and bold red lips to add a touch of Old Hollywood glamour to her look.
Jessica Chastain went WAY outside of her fashion comfort zone during the Fifth Annual Gold Meets Golden event presented by Coca-Cola in Los Angeles on Jan. 6 — and we couldn't be more thrilled about it! The Oscar nominee donned a fashion-forward Ralph Lauren minidress that almost looked like a houndstooth-print turtleneck pullover with a plaid miniskirt. But, nope, it was all one super-chic piece.
We weren't crazy about Nikki Reed's mismatched look at a Las Vegas event announcing a jewelry line made from recycled tech on Jan. 9. The ensemble was just too loud for us, as the star wore a sheer blouse, showcasing a printed bra underneath, with a belt and a skirt with… yet another print. But we like those suede pumps!
Kiernan Shipka made a rare fashion misstep during the Critics' Choice Awards on Jan. 11 in a loud Delpozo ensemble that got worse and worse from top to bottom. She paired loose-fitting cropped jacquard pants with a pink-and-yellow embellished top featuring a hot-yellow tie in the back and a sheer minty-green tulle skirt.
A printed pattern we preferred? Salma Hayek's dress at the Film Independent Spirit Awards Nominee Brunch in Los Angeles on Jan. 6. The movie star opted for a pale pink Giambattista Valli gown with a darker pink print and accessorized with loose waves and a long necklace for a perfect brunch look.
Not every black look worn in support of the #TimesUp movement during the Golden Globes on Jan. 7 was a winner. Debra Messing's Christian Siriano ensemble was puzzling, to say the least. The star's cap-sleeved beaded gown started off great but gave way to a split that showed off a pair of pants underneath.
Helen Mirren reminded us why she's a queen in a gorgeous long-sleeved Valentino dress with a high neckline (so on-trend!) during the New York City premiere of "The Leisure Seeker" on Jan. 11. Bow down!
Saoirse Ronan donned one of our least favorite looks of the month during the New York Film Critics Circle Awards in New York City on Jan. 3. The "Lady Bird" star wore a Calvin Klein suit — an oversized cream jacket, which she wore sans shirt, with loose-fitting black trousers — hot pink Christian Louboutin heels and colorful David Webb jeweled chandelier earrings. Maybe this ensemble would've worked if her slacks had been tailored or if her jacket had been just a little smaller, but as it is, she's swimming in fabric. To make matters worse, her makeup (especially that deep purple lipstick) completely washed her out.
Katy Perry disappointed in a silver three-quarter-sleeve midi-length Area dress at the ABC All-Star Party during the TCA Winter Press Tour in Los Angeles on Jan. 8. The curve-hugging design wasn't especially flattering, but even worse than that, it looked cheesy — especially when combined with the singer's shiny silver Giuseppe Zanotti peep-toe heels, a diamond choker and a single APM Monaco earring.
We loved Nina Dobrev's edgy look at the InStyle and Warner Bros. Golden Globes afterparty in Beverly Hills on Jan. 7. The star pulled off the black strapless Ralph Lauren gown's daring cutouts and slit perfectly.
Kate Beckinsale may be 44, but she dressed like a woman half her age for W Magazine's Golden Globes party in Los Angeles on Jan. 4. We liked her Elie Saab minidress — the asymmetrical ruffled skirt, ruffled shoulders and sheer star-print bodice are all super-cute. But we'd rather see it on her 18-year-old daughter, to be honest. That said, she looks amazing — if not a little age-inappropriate.
Issa Rae had one of our favorite Golden Globes looks at the award show on Jan. 7: this ethereal Prabal Gurung design with frilled detailing on the sleeves and a thigh-high slit. But the true show-stopper of her ensemble? That necklace! See it up close next…
Stunning! Issa Rae added a flawless accessory to her ensemble — a beautiful pendant necklace that provided a wonderful pop of color thanks to a gigantic emerald.
This is why Yara Shahidi is our favorite young star to keep an eye out for on the red carpet. The "Grown-ish" actress looked SO chic in a Schiaparelli Haute Couture shift dress with sheer sleeves, a collar, a pussycat bow at the neck and four colorful buttons on the shoulder during the Marie Claire Image Makers Awards in Los Angeles on Jan. 11. The frock also featured two beaded hands and a heart emblazoned across the front.
A velvet look we didn't love on the red carpet this month? Natalie Dormer's getup at the BAFTA nominations announcement in London on Jan. 9. Though the velvet pants on their own were stylish, we didn't like the combination with that structured, ill-fitting white and black-striped blouse.
Greta Gerwig's Gucci gown at the National Board of Review Awards Gala in New York City on Jan. 9 was one of our favorite looks of the month. The iridescent pink confection featured an asymmetrical hemline and a black belt, which complemented those black pumps perfectly.
We barely recognized Michelle Monaghan in the nude Alex Perry gown that she wore during the Marie Claire Image Makers Awards in Los Angeles on Jan. 11. The unique dress — a modern take on the classic ballerina silhouette — featured a sheer short-sleeved top with ribbing and a full skirt. We especially loved her feathered pointy-toe pumps, which added a whimsical touch to the youthful look.
Jamie Chung donned a divisive Alice McCall dress during the Moet Moment Film Festival bash in West Hollywood on Jan. 5. The bizarre one-shoulder blue-and-gold striped frock featured fringe along the hemline and across the bust. It made her look like she'd wrapped herself in a really pretty Afghan blanket. And we're just not sure how we feel about that.
