The stars aligned in Santa Monica for the 23rd Annual Critics' Choice Awards on Jan. 11, 2018, and while there were plenty of award-worthy looks, there were even more fashion bombs. Wonderwall.com is taking a look back at the biggest celeb style hits and misses of the day, starting with Margot Robbie, who donned one of her worst looks ever — a strapless black-and-tan striped Chanel confection with a bejeweled belt and ruffles along the neckline and waist — during the celebration of film and television's finest. What is happening here? We love Jessica Biel, but we can't stand her Oscar de la Renta dress, a mostly sheer number featuring a few giant black tulips, random slashes of hot pink and patches of red with random French words laser-cut into them.
Diane Kruger reminded us why she's one of our favorite stars to keep an eye out for on the red carpet in one of our favorite looks of the 2018 Critics Choice Awards: a divisive white Vera Wang cold-shoulder column dress with slouchy statement sleeves and a chainmail overlay on the bodice. Love it or hate it, you can't deny it's a major fashion moment!
Zoe Kazan donned one of our least favorite looks: a long-sleeved Valentino dress with a high neckline and a sheer overlay featuring multi-color sequins. To make matters worse, the yellow lace on her sleeves made it look like there was an infection spreading up from her wrists. Ugh.
There's no competition in the category for "most bizarre menswear moment" of the 2018 Critics' Choice Awards. That distinction goes to "This Is Us" star Chris Sullivan, who donned a fishbone-print suit with a matching tie. We'll give him points for keeping things interesting.
We couldn't stop staring at Emma Roberts' truly terrible new 'do long enough to form an opinion about her strapless silk satin Giorgio Armani column dress. Moving on…
The best dressed man of the day? Milo Ventimiglia, no question! The "This Is Us" star looked dapper in a velvet suit in a deep shade of olive green.
David Harbour also chose a colorful suit. His was deep burgundy with black trim. Well done!
But if a classic suit is your cup of tea when it comes to menswear, no one did it better than Liev Schreiber, who rocked a Tom Ford ensemble with a bow tie.
Kate Bosworth donned a sheer white lace long-sleeved Brock Collection dress with a high neckline and a truly bizarre asymmetrical peplum waist.
Kiernan Shipka made a rare fashion misstep in a loud Delpozo ensemble that got worse and worse from top to bottom. She paired loose-fitting cropped jacquard pants with a pink-and-yellow embellished top featuring a hot-yellow tie in the back and a sheer minty-green tulle skirt.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead also donned a pink-and-yellow Delpozo creation, though hers was a much bigger hit than Kiernan Shipka's. The asymmetrical gown featured a fan of pink tulle at the neck and a drape of silver fabric across one arm.
Major supermodel moment! Heidi Klum looked sexy and chic in a beaded cold-shoulder Georges Hobeika confection with billowing sleeves, a plunging neckline and a thigh-high slit.
Saoirse Ronan channeled Old Hollywood in a gorgeous sequin-embellished Michael Kors gown with three-quarter sleeves, a high neckline and a center-draped skirt. It's a shame we truly despise her makeup…
Saoirse Ronan looked washed out thanks to the deep-burgundy shade of her lipstick and her peachy eyeshadow. A bright red lip color and some eyeliner would've sealed her look as one of our favorites of the day.
Olivia Munn looked red-hot in a curve-hugging Prada halter dress with a sequin-embellished collar. We just wish there'd been a few less beads on the bodice, which created the illusion that she was wearing a slew of necklaces in different lengths — and ultimately came off as a bit tacky.
Sarah Hyland channeled a ballerina in a Naeem Khan tea-length gown with a beaded black sleeveless bodice and a full white chiffon skirt with tiers — a trend of which we will literally never tire! She elevated her look with some of the best styling of the day…
Sarah Hyland wore her hair in a bun with a side part to let her large heart-shaped earrings and glam makeup do the talking. (Audrey Hepburn inspired the look, which Suave Professionals stylist Ryan Richman created for the "Modern Family" star.) We especially loved her brows and over-drawn deep-red lips.
Reese Witherspoon looked just fine in a sleeveless Prada LBD with beaded trim and sequin embellishments. We just wish she'd taken the opportunity to make a bigger statement with her look.
There was an explosion of lace (and not in a good way!) on Allison Williams' sheer Dolce & Gabbana gown, which featured a partially pleated skirt. We weren't wild about her styling either…
Allison Williams went for a fresh-faced makeup look with nude lipstick and wore her stick-straight brunette locks pulled back with a jeweled headband. (An updo would've given her intensely lacy dress some much-needed breathing room.)
Yara Shahidi donned a pretty purple floral-print Giambattista Valli dress with a high neckline and long billowy sleeves. (So on-trend!) We especially loved the sunburst of sequins across the bodice.
Laura Dern earned a resounding "meh" from us for her shapeless Balmain ensemble: a tuxedo-inspired vest, which she wore with a lacy black bra and loose-fitting pants that ended tight at the ankles. (She would've looked much better in tailored, cropped pants, doncha think?)
We loved Tituss Burgess's deep-red velvet J. Mueser suit, but why (WHY?) did he wear it with sneakers? Even if they're sparkly silver Gucci sneakers with red velvet stripes, there are some things that just don't fly during award shows.

Upon closer inspection, it's clear how flawlessly the skirt of Madeline Brewer's dress combines the baby-blue shade of the bodice — which perfectly matches the actress's eyes, by the way — with the deep red of the velvet strip of fabric at the waist. Gorgeous!
