The stars aligned in Santa Monica for the 23rd Annual Critics' Choice Awards on Jan. 11, 2018, and while there were plenty of award-worthy looks, there were even more fashion bombs. Wonderwall.com is taking a look back at the biggest celeb style hits and misses of the day, starting with Margot Robbie, who donned one of her worst looks ever — a strapless black-and-tan striped Chanel confection with a bejeweled belt and ruffles along the neckline and waist — during the celebration of film and television's finest. Keep reading to see why her hair and makeup didn't help, plus get the scoop on more noteworthy celeb-style moments…

Margot Robbie's funky topknot, which she wore with a black velvet bow, belonged with an entirely different ensemble, and her taupe lipstick left her looking washed out. Bummer!

A vision in white! Angelina Jolie stunned in a strapless white Ralph & Russo gown with a feathered bodice and asymmetrical skirt. She wisely accessorized with giant diamond earrings and bold red lips to add a touch of Old Hollywood glamour to her look.

What is happening here? We love Jessica Biel, but we can't stand her Oscar de la Renta dress, a mostly sheer number featuring a few giant black tulips, random slashes of hot pink and patches of red with random French words laser-cut into them.
Diane Kruger reminded us why she's one of our favorite stars to keep an eye out for on the red carpet in one of our favorite looks of the 2018 Critics Choice Awards: a divisive white Vera Wang cold-shoulder column dress with slouchy statement sleeves and a chainmail overlay on the bodice. Love it or hate it, you can't deny it's a major fashion moment!
Zoe Kazan donned one of our least favorite looks: a long-sleeved Valentino dress with a high neckline and a sheer overlay featuring multi-color sequins. To make matters worse, the yellow lace on her sleeves made it look like there was an infection spreading up from her wrists. Ugh.
There's no competition in the category for "most bizarre menswear moment" of the 2018 Critics' Choice Awards. That distinction goes to "This Is Us" star Chris Sullivan, who donned a fishbone-print suit with a matching tie. We'll give him points for keeping things interesting.
We couldn't stop staring at Emma Roberts' truly terrible new 'do long enough to form an opinion about her strapless silk satin Giorgio Armani column dress. Moving on…
The best dressed man of the day? Milo Ventimiglia, no question! The "This Is Us" star looked dapper in a velvet suit in a deep shade of olive green.
David Harbour also chose a colorful suit. His was deep burgundy with black trim. Well done!
But if a classic suit is your cup of tea when it comes to menswear, no one did it better than Liev Schreiber, who rocked a Tom Ford ensemble with a bow tie.
Kate Bosworth donned a sheer white lace long-sleeved Brock Collection dress with a high neckline and a truly bizarre asymmetrical peplum waist.
Kiernan Shipka made a rare fashion misstep in a loud Delpozo ensemble that got worse and worse from top to bottom. She paired loose-fitting cropped jacquard pants with a pink-and-yellow embellished top featuring a hot-yellow tie in the back and a sheer minty-green tulle skirt.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead also donned a pink-and-yellow Delpozo creation, though hers was a much bigger hit than Kiernan Shipka's. The asymmetrical gown featured a fan of pink tulle at the neck and a drape of silver fabric across one arm.
Major supermodel moment! Heidi Klum looked sexy and chic in a beaded cold-shoulder Georges Hobeika confection with billowing sleeves, a plunging neckline and a thigh-high slit.
Saoirse Ronan channeled Old Hollywood in a gorgeous sequin-embellished Michael Kors gown with three-quarter sleeves, a high neckline and a center-draped skirt. It's a shame we truly despise her makeup…
Saoirse Ronan looked washed out thanks to the deep-burgundy shade of her lipstick and her peachy eyeshadow. A bright red lip color and some eyeliner would've sealed her look as one of our favorites of the day.
Olivia Munn looked red-hot in a curve-hugging Prada halter dress with a sequin-embellished collar. We just wish there'd been a few less beads on the bodice, which created the illusion that she was wearing a slew of necklaces in different lengths — and ultimately came off as a bit tacky.
Sarah Hyland channeled a ballerina in a Naeem Khan tea-length gown with a beaded black sleeveless bodice and a full white chiffon skirt with tiers — a trend of which we will literally never tire! She elevated her look with some of the best styling of the day…
Sarah Hyland wore her hair in a bun with a side part to let her large heart-shaped earrings and glam makeup do the talking. (Audrey Hepburn inspired the look, which Suave Professionals stylist Ryan Richman created for the "Modern Family" star.) We especially loved her brows and over-drawn deep-red lips.
Reese Witherspoon looked just fine in a sleeveless Prada LBD with beaded trim and sequin embellishments. We just wish she'd taken the opportunity to make a bigger statement with her look.
There was an explosion of lace (and not in a good way!) on Allison Williams' sheer Dolce & Gabbana gown, which featured a partially pleated skirt. We weren't wild about her styling either…
Allison Williams went for a fresh-faced makeup look with nude lipstick and wore her stick-straight brunette locks pulled back with a jeweled headband. (An updo would've given her intensely lacy dress some much-needed breathing room.)
Yara Shahidi donned a pretty purple floral-print Giambattista Valli dress with a high neckline and long billowy sleeves. (So on-trend!) We especially loved the sunburst of sequins across the bodice.
Laura Dern earned a resounding "meh" from us for her shapeless Balmain ensemble: a tuxedo-inspired vest, which she wore with a lacy black bra and loose-fitting pants that ended tight at the ankles. (She would've looked much better in tailored, cropped pants, doncha think?)
We loved Tituss Burgess's deep-red velvet J. Mueser suit, but why (WHY?) did he wear it with sneakers? Even if they're sparkly silver Gucci sneakers with red velvet stripes, there are some things that just don't fly during award shows.
Skyler Samuels stunned in a long-sleeved red lace dress with a high neckline and a sheer skirt. What really caught our eye, though, was the detail at the waist. Let's get a closer look…
Skyler Samuels' red lace dress featured embroidered eyes and planets along the waist for a fun, unexpected touch. Way to think out of this world, er, out of the box!
If we didn't love Diane Warren's boxing kitty shirt so much, we'd call this look — a graphic-print tee under a sequined blazer with a velvet choker and sneakers — a huge miss.
Greta Gerwig wears her heart on her … chest? The actress-director donned a shapeless white Fendi dress that would've been passable if not for the cheesy sequined heart in the middle.
Jaimie Alexander wisely stepped outside of her fashion comfort zone in a deep-green velvet Georges Chakra Couture high-low dress with a feathered hemline. Now get a closer look at her equally impressive bling…
Jaimie Alexander completed her look with Sylva & Cie's Emerald Slice Thorn Earrings, which really made her hazel eyes pop.
Armie Hammer ultimately looked unfinished when he decided to wear a black velvet smoking jacket without a tie. What a shame!
Alexis Bledel gave us Jackie O vibes (in a good way!) in a baby blue Rosario dress with black velvet straps and a matching sash tied at the waist. She completed her timeless look with a single-strand diamond Forevermark necklace and embellished Sophia Webster pointy-toe heels.
Oddly, Abbie Cornish's sequined Tommy Hilfiger sheath actually featured a sheer half-cape. Let's take a closer look…
Why does Abbie Cornish's open-back dress have a half-cape? One of life's great mysteries!
Kaley Cuoco sparkled in a pink sequined J. Mendel gown with a dangerously low-cut neckline, short sleeves and a sheer skirt.
Is Alison Brie taking fashion cues from The Mummy? Sadly, that's the vibe we got from her asymmetrical long-sleeved draped Roberto Cavalli dress.
Jessica Chastain risked a wardrobe malfunction in a gorgeous green Vionnet halter dress with an oversized keyhole cutout and a pleated skirt.
Madeline Brewer's strapless Elizabeth Kennedy dress — which featured a baby-blue bustier bodice and a sequined skirt with a strip of red velvet around the waist — deserves more credit from fashion critics than it's likely to score. Keep reading to see why…
Upon closer inspection, it's clear how flawlessly the skirt of Madeline Brewer's dress combines the baby-blue shade of the bodice — which perfectly matches the actress's eyes, by the way — with the deep red of the velvet strip of fabric at the waist. Gorgeous!
Womp. Elisabeth Moss failed to impress in a snooze-worthy short-sleeved Erdem dress featuring a floral-embellished sheer black overlay with ribbing and a bizarre asymmetrical keyhole cutout.
"The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" star Rachel Brosnahan looked pretty in pink in a strappy embroidered Zuhair Murad number.
Did Johnny Galecki roll out of bed and race to the blue carpet or something? He looked totally disheveled with his shirt unbuttoned, his tie and vest askew and his cuffs hanging down to his knuckles.
Gal Gadot sparkled in a strappy silver Prada gown with a plunging neckline that was nice but ultimately forgettable.
Emilia Clarke chose a safe but boring bejeweled black Dolce & Gabbana dress with long sleeves and a high neckline.
"SMILF" actress Samara Weaving donned what's sure to go down as one of the most unique jumpsuits of the year: a red one-shoulder number with a peplum waist that trailed into extra fabric on the pants.
Perfect in plum! Octavia Spencer scored a fashion home run in Tadashi Shoji's Amanda Gown, a flattering short-sleeved number with a pleated chiffon skirt and a lace bodice with velvet trim.
This pains us to say, but Mary Steenburgen's silver sleeveless dress just looked cheap. The draping did little to hide the wrinkles in the skirt. Sorry, girl!
Allison Janney played with color — and won! — in a bold blue embellished long-sleeved Michael Cinco dress that perfectly flaunted her figure.
"Orange Is the New Black" star Asia Kate Dillon made a major statement during one of the biggest award shows of the year sporting a midriff-baring #BlackLivesMatter hoodie with loose-fitting pants and high-top sneakers.
Hello, Holly Hunter! The 59-year-old actress flaunted her figure in a curve-hugging navy-blue tank dress.
Samira Wiley donned a gorgeous Rebecca Vallance off-the-shoulder dress with a ruffled neckline and train.
We love the way Yvonne Strahovski (unintentionally) color-coordinated her red minidress, which featured blue polka dots, with the blue carpet during the 2018 Critics' Choice Awards. But otherwise, her look underwhelmed. (The bows on the cuffs of her statement sleeves were a nice touch, though!)
Justin Hartley looked sharp in a simple black suit, which he wore with a dark gray tie to keep things a little interesting.
"Get Out" star Betty Gabriel donned one of our favorite looks of the day: an Old Hollywood-inspired curve-hugging blush gown with a train and architectural cap sleeves.
Natalia Dyer put a modern twist on the Victorian-inspired trend that's so in right now with a floral-print dress with a high neckline and short statement sleeves featuring a beaded neckline and a strip of black velvet at the waist.
We love Rachel Bloom, so we really wish the "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" star had chosen a less matronly dress than this boring black number, which featured sheer sections on the shoulders and skit and round iridescent embellishments.
Laurie Metcalf looked SO classy in a baby blue Cristina Ottaviano gown with a train.
Elena Satine donned an ill-fitting Rubin Singer cold-shoulder dress with lace panels along the sides. Unfortunately, the statement sleeves paired with the pencil skirt gave her an unbalanced, top-heavy appearance.
