Wonderwall.com is kicking off a brand new year by rounding up the best and worst celebrity fashion from January 2023…
Kylie Jenner made headlines for all the wrong reasons when she attended the Schiaparelli fashion show in Paris on Jan. 23 in a slinky black dress accompanied by a massive faux lion's head. Though it earned approval from unlikely places like PETA, fashion watchers were left scratching their heads. We lumped this bizarre accessory in with the misses this month.
Keep reading for more of the best and worst fashion moments of the month…

Margot Robbie looked regal at the "Babylon" film premiere in London on Jan. 12, arriving in this stunning cherry red Valentino design. Though it seemed like a fairly straightforward silhouette that gave a cape-like, royal feel, there was a unique detail you might have missed…
_
Margot Robbie's bright red Valentino gown looked like it had a wide neckline from afar, but a tiny halter-style detail actually held the floor-length gown in place. The addition of a bright red lip cemented this look as a standout hit.

_
Salma Hayek certainly turned heads at the "Magic Mike's Last Dance" premiere in Miami on Jan. 25, rocking this barely-there Oscar de la Renta gown. The star's black frock featured an embroidered long-sleeved fishnet dress that was totally sheer atop what was essentially a bralette and briefs, making quite the splash on the black carpet. And while the movie star certainly looked fab, we can't say we liked this bathing suit cover-up masquerading as a designer dress.
_
Anne Hathaway's style has majorly upgraded lately, so we weren't surprised when she stunned during the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. The star attended the "Eileen" premiere on Jan. 21 in the chicest puffer jacket of all time: Her Versace outerwear included a corset-like waist! What was underneath was even better…
_
Anne Hathaway removed the cool puffer to show off a tweed minidress from Versace. Tights and platform boots from the brand rounded out this chic winter look.
_
Kate Hudson made a styling misstep at the "Poker Face" film premiere in Los Angeles on Jan. 17. Though she rocked this standout A.L.C. velvet turtleneck dress with an edgy cutout at the waist, she dropped the ball when it came to her shoes. Though we understand the intent — a frock this refreshing paired with an unexpected choice like white cowboy boots could have been fabulous — we ultimately thought it felt too casual.
_
Pretty in pink! Letitia Wright wowed at the Grand Reveal Weekend for Atlantis The Royal in Dubai on Jan. 21 in this pretty little Prada design. If you thought the hue of the dress was divine, just wait until we zoom in on the details…
_
Letitia Wright's hot pink Prada confection included dazzling embellished straps. She added more shimmer via an ear cuff and silver hoop earrings.
_
Anya Taylor-Joy disappointed at the Critics Choice Awards on Jan. 15 in this odd Christian Dior design. Though it started out strong — those delicate spaghetti straps and subtle sparkly embellishments stunned — it lost us with that entirely sheer midi-length skirt. Despite not liking the dress, we did appreciate the jewels she added…
_
Anya Taylor-Joy's dazzling diamonds from Tiffany & Co. jewelry almost distracted us from her disappointing Dior dress.
_
Emma Roberts looked ready for Valentine's Day at the "Maybe I Do" screening in New York City on Jan. 17 in this standout Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini frock. We loved the single off-the-shoulder element, the button detailing down the center and the way she embraced the red theme with sandals and a bold lip.
_
Daisy Edgar-Jones arrived at the Critics Choice Awards on Jan. 15 in this sparkly black Gucci mess. From the sloppy neckline and billowy sleeves to the cutouts at the waist and up the thigh, this one felt like an afterthought that certainly wasn't worthy of a big Hollywood event.
_
We loved seeing this side of Dove Cameron! The young star often opts for edgier style selections, but this frothy pink tulle Giambattista Valli number she wore to the fashion house's Haute Couture Fashion Week show in Paris on Jan. 23 really wowed. Aside from being a nice change of pace, we loved the complementary gold details — the trim on the dress's neckline and those embellished platform sandals.
_
Denim on denim is always risky. And while we appreciated Dakota Johnson's attempt during the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, on Jan. 19, we weren't crazy about her Madga Butrym coordinates. The star rocked a strapless corset-style denim top, which we loved, with an equally killer oversized denim trench coat and wide-legged trousers. Individually, all of these pieces would shine, but together it was just a little too much.
_
Maya Rudolph took a big risk at the Los Angeles premiere of the Peacock series "Poker Face" on Jan. 17, and we were pleasantly surprised by the bold results! The star rocked a mixed look from Sergio Hudson, pairing a polka dot blazer with a smaller-print polka dot blouse and a pair of black-and-white striped trousers. Though it was a pretty wild look, Maya pulled it off!
_
Julia Garner's funky Ferragamo outfit scored a big miss on Critics Choice Awards night on Jan. 15. The top half of the design was completely see-through, showing off her Skims bra underneath, and when paired with a high-low hemline, this look combined two trends we'd like to see less of in 2023.
_
Sara Sampaio ushered in a fresh start to the year with neutrals in this sleek look she wore to pal Jasmine Tookes' baby shower in Los Angeles on Jan. 22 — a crisp tan sweater and matching trousers plus camel-hued accessories like a thick belt and tiny bag. Tan boots completed this pretty ensemble.
_
Sarah Michelle Gellar brought the disco ball to the Paramount+ "Wolf Pack" screening in London on Jan. 25. Though we appreciated the sparkle, we didn't like the blazer and sequined strapless dress combo.
_
Hailey Bieber kept it cool in New York City on Jan. 22 in this preppy ensemble. To do so, you just have to layer up — like Hailey did with her white top under a collared sweater all underneath a killer black Saint Laurent coat. High socks and Proenza Schouler loafers cemented his look as an enviable winter fit.
_
The Critics Choice Awards on Jan. 15 provided a whole lot of misses, including this disaster from Lily James. The star landed herself firmly on the worst dressed list with this semi-sheer confection from Oscar de la Renta that included a flared tulle skirt and sheer striped fabric that showed off a tan, similarly flared minidress underneath.
_
It was a bold Givenchy moment for Kylie Jenner in Paris on Jan. 23, but the reality TV star's outfit choice — a long-sleeved, form-fitting electric blue frock — paid off. She paired the dress with another cheery pop of color — hot pink! Let's take a closer look at her unique shoes…
_
Kylie Jenner added these sparkly hot pink Givenchy boots to her look — it's hard to hate on these statement shoes.
_
Sofia Carson served up a mint green disaster at the BAFTA Tea Party in Los Angeles on Jan. 14. The star's Giambattista Valli look left a lot to be desired thanks to the monochromatic vibe, the leggings and the embellished platform sandals — but then things were oddly shaken up by the placement of a chunky black belt. It's an all-around no from us!
_
We adored Emilia Clarke's black-and-white pick for the premiere of "The Pod Generation" at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, on Jan. 19. The star sported this sweet long-sleeved minidress from Chanel — note the twist on the signature double-C print — and wisely paired it with tights and black pumps also by the brand.
_
What a snore! Kate Hudson served up this instantly forgettable number from Oscar de la Renta — a muted metallic dress with a sheer skirt — at the Critics Choice Awards on Jan. 15.
_
Here's a whole new way to wear animal print! Anne Hathaway turned up at the Valentino Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2023 fashion show in Paris on Jan. 25 in this wild look — a spaghetti-strapped mini paired with matching leopard pantashoes. And while it was certainly risky to wear all that leopard together, it paid off in this unexpected look from the star.
_
Tracee Ellis Ross gave us business casual chic at the "Poker Face" premiere in Los Angeles on Jan. 17. Though her look was Prada, it looked plucked out of a '90s office building thanks to the dull gray hue and blouse and pencil skirt combo. Black pointy-toe pumps from the designer and a sharp black Prada bag couldn't salvage things either.
_
Hilary Duff left ABC's "Good Morning America" studios in New York City on Jan. 23 in this sweet red frock by A.W.a.K.E. We loved the white button details and the fun ruffled skirt — we just wish she'd paired it with different shoes, just something other than those boring black sandals.
_
Pretty in pink! Brooke Shields opted for hot pink at the National Board of Review Awards in New York City on Jan. 8. The star's sleeveless midi-length pick was an instant hit… made even more fabulous by the addition of matching pointy-toe pumps.
_
Does anyone do it better than Beyonce?! On Jan. 21, the "Renaissance" singer attended the star-studded Grand Reveal Weekend of Atlantis the Royal, a new ultra-luxury hotel in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. That evening, Bey took the stage for the first time since February 2020, and prior to her highly-anticipated performance, she walked the red carpet in a gorgeous Dolce & Gabbana ensemble. The custom look consisted of a glistening gold sequins floor-length gown with sheer panels on the sides and a voluminous gold-foiled cape draped on her arms that featured a flowing train. She finished off the spectacular red carpet moment with an eclectic mixture of Messika jewels and a rectangular clutch.
_
Shania Twain served up a "Legally Blonde" moment in New York City on Jan. 5 in this hot pink cropped coat and capri pants combo. She even had an adorable chihuahua with her while walking in the city! The country music superstar finished off her cheery look with black platform sandals that perfectly complemented the piping on her jacket.
_
The bright green Rodarte dress that Jenny Slate wore to the 2023 Golden Globes on Jan. 10 started out strong — we loved that vibrant shade! But the halter-style frock ran amiss thanks to an oversized floral embellishment at the neckline that gave the gown a more campy vibe… and the messy updo she paired with it certainly didn't help matters.
_
We love a star who doesn't take herself too seriously! Hailey Bieber stepped out in Los Angeles on Jan. 6 rocking a cropped shirt that read "nepo baby" — a response to the viral Vulture article about the kids of famous people. She paired her statement tee with light denim jeans and a chunky pair of Proenza Schouler loafers. A Prada shoulder bag rounded out her low-key off-duty look.
_
While we adore a good pop of color on the red carpet, the shades of the custom Tory Burch gown Viola Davis wore to the 34th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Gala on Jan. 5 weren't a match made in heaven. The star's short-sleeved design featured a fabulous silhouette — that V-neck paired with the striping made a sharp statement — but the combo of bright blue and red lost us.
_
We're delighted with Sienna Miller's return to boho chic! The star went back to her fashion roots with this frilly and floral Alessandra Rich gown, complete with one spaghetti strap and one slightly off-the-shoulder ruffled sleeve. The cream shade and pale floral print overlay wowed at the National Board of Review Awards in New York City on Jan. 8 — and has us hoping she sticks with this throwback style.
_
Michelle Yeoh can always be counted upon for a chic ensemble, and her look at the National Board of Review Awards in New York City on Jan. 8 didn't disappoint. The actress arrived in Erdem — a white laser-cut blouse paired with a high-waisted skirt complete with a peplum detail. The peplum element seemed to be a favorite silhouette of the stylish star this awards season so far…
_
Michelle Yeoh also embraced a peplum layer when she wore this navy blue Armani Privé gown to the 2023 Golden Globes on Jan. 10. We loved the unique pairing of the peplum with a strapless silhouette and a column-style skirt… all topped with subtle shimmery embellishments that complemented her diamonds from Moussaieff Jewellers.
_
Priyanka Chopra showed off a cozy winter look at the launch of her limited-edition Universal Colour Collection with Max Factor in London on Jan. 10. While we loved the beauty's commitment to shades of brown and those thigh-high tan suede boots, she lost us with that massive oversized camel coat that eclipsed her cute turtleneck sweater dress.
_
Cate Blanchett arrived at the 34th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Gala on Jan. 5 in this throwback one-piece — a vintage 2009 Armani Privé jumpsuit with a cape-like detail at the shoulders and embellishments down the center. She completed the ensemble with simple black Jimmy Choo heels. Though we love the star's commitment to repeat wearing, we couldn't get behind this underwhelming look.
_
More neon tulle in 2023! Nico Parker rocked this stunning pop of color at the premiere of her HBO show, "The Last of Us," in Los Angeles on Jan. 9. The star's youthful Mac Duggal confection included ruffled tulle along the neckline and at the hemline in an eye-catching bold yellow shade.
_
Kate Hudson ushered in a pop of color in the midst of a dreary winter month at the Variety Creative Impact Awards during the Palm Springs Film Festival on Jan. 6. The star's Huishan Zhang sleeveless frock included a high neck, a keyhole cutout and plenty of pretty pleating all in a beautiful bubblegum pink. Our only gripe? The way she paired this cheery dress with black heels.
_
The always fashionable Hailey Bieber stepped out with husband Justin Bieber in Los Angeles on Jan. 6 in this baggy gray suit. And while the star effortlessly pulled off the pinstriped The Attico pieces, which she paired with Marni heeled loafers, we're hoping this oversized business-casual look doesn't catch on.
_
From the white platform pumps to the bold blue floral-print minidress, we loved every inch of Quinta Brunson's look while she did press for her show "Abbott Elementary" New York City on Jan. 3. A tiny orange clutch infused another bright shade into this ensemble.
_
We adored the floral frock Niecy Nash-Betts wore to the Golden Salute to Sheryl Lee Ralph and Niecy Nash-Betts event in Marina Del Rey, California, on Jan. 8. The star's long-sleeved midi-length black dress with an all-over ivory floral print evoked a cheery spring vibe.
_
Stephanie Hsu was ready for Valentine's Day in this darling red and pink Valentino confection. The star attended the 34th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Gala in Palm Springs, California, on Jan. 5 in this pale pink gown that featured a flow of delicate ruffles tied at the waist with a bright red sash for an extra pop of color.
_
We adore a romantic Valentino gown, and the frothy black design Janelle Monae wore to the National Board of Review Awards in New York City on Jan. 8 was a big hit in our books. From the billowy tulle sleeves to the dazzling embellished border of the cutouts along the waist to the way the skirt flowed behind her and her dramatic updo, this glam look gets an A+.
_
We adored the pantsuit Andie MacDowell wore to the New York Premiere of "The Way Home" in New York City on Jan. 11 — black coordinates spiced up by silver embellishments. The star added a white turtleneck and black pumps to the chic suit for a standout look on the red carpet.
_
We were underwhelmed by Jenna Ortega's Golden Globes ensemble on Jan. 10 — this wispy brown Gucci pick. The star's haphazard dress included sharp cutouts, asymmetrical hemlines, billowy sleeves and a dramatic train. And though we didn't love this messy look, we did appreciate the "Wednesday" beauty's accessories.
_
Jenna Ortega added layered edgy Tiffany and Co. necklaces that ended up being our favorite element of her Globes night ensemble.
_
Emma Hernan channeled Cher Horowitz from "Clueless" while out in Los Angeles on Jan. 11 in this bright yellow plaid number. The "Selling Sunset" star rocked the minidress and jacket combo with a pair of sky-high platform sandals while filming her Netflix reality show.
_
Heidi Klum's look at the 2023 Golden Globes on Jan. 10 left a lot to be desired. Her minidress — crafted from purple feathers and silver sequins — seemed to be inspired by Las Vegas showgirls. If the short silhouette wasn't enough of a shock at the high-fashion event, the cutouts and sheer paneling certainly kicked things up a notch. She finished things off with more silver — strappy sandals and a clutch — to cement the fashion miss.
_
More plaid we loved this month? The cute coat and skirt combo Anna Kendrick rocked in New York City on Jan. 11. We loved the pale brown plaid paired with an ivory blouse and brown pointy-toe pumps, which cemented this look as a perfect winter hit for the star.
_
"Abbott Elementary" was a big winner at the 2023 Golden Globes on Jan. 10. Star Quinta Brunson took home a best actress statuette but her Christian Siriano dress wasn't a smash hit. We weren't wild about the strapless frock's fit-and-flare vibe or the combo of hot pink and black paired with all that tulle.
_
Allison Williams arrived at a screening of her film "M3GAN" in New York City on Jan. 4 in this shimmery Emilia Wickstead number. The gold strapless frock dazzled, and she wisely paired it with black Christian Louboutin pointy-toe pumps for a sophisticated and statuesque look.
_
Snore! We're used to Michelle Williams being quite the fashionista, so this showing at the 34th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Gala on Jan. 5 was disappointing. Her navy minidress was a bore despite some subtle sparkles along the sleeves. Despite not liking the dress, we did, however, appreciate those black satin Prada platform sandals.
_
Lily James tapped Atelier Versace for this gorgeous red gown she wore to the 2023 Golden Globes on Jan. 10. The confection featuring a strapless bodice with cutouts and a structural ballgown skirt flowed behind her on the red carpet. She added standout jewels too…
_
When it came time to add some sparkle, Lily James tapped Harry Winston for her jewelry, donning these pretty diamond drop earrings and a matching necklace.
