Tyrese Gibson was ordered to pay his ex $10,690 a month in child support, but not before some truth was revealed about his finances.
During a hearing as part of his divorce from Samantha Lee Gibson, Tyrese's tax returns were brought into the equation. Samantha's lawyer even harkened back to the actor's previous testimony in which he said his finances were in "shambles" in 2018. But, it turns out that Tyrese actually made over $2.2 million that year.
While discussing the tax returns that spelled out his income, Tyrese said to the questioning attorney, "I don't do the CFO thing. Here's a question to you, smart person …" The judge, though, immediately interrupted Tyrese and scolded him.
"If you do it again, I'm going to hold you in contempt [of court]," the judge told Tyrese, according to video from Hip Hop Enquirer. "You don't ask questions! That's not how this works!"
When all was said and done and cooler heads prevailed, Tyrese was ordered to pay Samantha more than $10,000 monthly in child support for their 3-year-old daughter, Soraya. He avoided paying spousal support.
Although Tyrese seemed annoyed by the ruling, the judge said, "This is not a punishment for you. Put that money where it belongs, in the child!"
TMZ reported that the ruling dates back to when Samantha first filed for divorce in September 2020, meaning he owes her a lump sum of $209,000. The "Fast & Furious" star did catch a break for making Samantha's car payments for two years, dropping his lump sum down to $169,000.
After the finances were handled, the judge granted Tyrese and Samantha's divorce, making them both single.
TMZ noted that Tyrese already pays ex-wife Norma Mitchell $10,690 a month in child support for their teenage daughter, Shayla.
