Kirstie Alley's work is just beginning, according to the Church of Scientology, of which she was a devout member.
According to DailyMail.com, the "Look Who's Talking" actress had reached "Thetan 8" status in Scientology, which is the highest honor in the faith. As Scientology believes that people have multiple lives, she will now be introduced to a "new life" where she will work through the challenges of the life she's left behind in her passing.
The actress died on Dec. 5 after a brief battle with colon cancer. Scientologists have a unique take on cancer.
"Cancer is not caused — never has been and never will be. It is not a caused mechanism by the external environment or some physiological activity," the church's founder, Ron L. Hubbard, wrote in a journal in 1980. "It always requires a second-dynamic or sexual upset, such as the loss of children or some other mechanism to bring about a condition known as cancer."
In fact, Scientologists who are at Thetan 8 level, also known as OT VIII, believe they have superhuman abilities and are impervious to disease.
The Emmy-winning "Cheers" star achieved her top Scientology status in 2018 and spoke of her accomplishment with a church publication called Freewinds. (The church also operates a cruise ship with the same name, which is where Kirstie's status was cemented.)
"Now here I stand a new OT VIII shiny, fresh, and calm…I now fully have the confront that puts me right up that damn confront scale with other Scientology Freedom Fighters!" she said at the time.
To achieve her status, Kirstie was required to take advanced church courses, sit through interrogations and counseling sessions, and "go clear," among other things. All of those things cost money, and estimates claim she would have paid upwards of $1 million to get to "Thetan 8."
According to reports, Kirstie's funeral has not been scheduled, but a memorial service is expected to take place at Scientology's Clearwater, Florida, headquarters.
