On Thursday, March 20, both The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal reported that President Donald Trump's right-hand man, Elon Musk, would be present at the top-secret meeting. While there's no specific reason why the tech mogul would be involved in the meeting, an official told the latter publication that Musk was being given a briefing "because he asked for one."

"The Defense Department is excited to welcome Elon Musk to the Pentagon on Friday. He was invited by Secretary Pete Hegseth and is just visiting," Chief Defense Department Sean Parnell confirmed in a statement to The New York Times.Pete Hegseth later took to X to further explain Musk's visit: "We look forward to welcoming @elonmusk to the Pentagon tomorrow. But the fake news delivers again — this is NOT a meeting about 'top secret China war plans.' It's an informal meeting about innovation, efficiencies and smarter production. Gonna be great!" he said.

Despite Pete Hegseth insisting the meeting would not have anything to do with a potential war with China, The New York Times claimed the get-together would be filled with highly sensitive information."The top-secret briefing that exists for the China war plan has about 20 to 30 slides that lay out how the United States would fight such a conflict," The New York Times reports.
_
"It covers the plan beginning with the indications and warning of a threat from China to various options on what Chinese targets to hit, over what time period, that would be presented to Mr. Trump for decisions, according to officials with knowledge of the plan," The New York Times reports of the information session for Donald Trump and Elon Musk. The Telsa CEO fired back at the reports on X, writing, "The New York Times is pure propaganda. Also, I look forward to the prosecutions of those at the Pentagon who are leaking maliciously false information to NYT. They will be found."

Donald Trump also touched upon the allegations and completely dismissed any talk of a potential global conflict."How ridiculous. China will not even be mentioned or discussed," he wrote on X.
