Heather Gay always knew something wasn't right about Jen Shah's business dealings.
While appearing on "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen," Heather dished on the arrest of her "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City" costar. Heather, who maintains a close relationship with Jen, told Andy that she's hasn't directly asked her friend if she did the things she's accused of doing, nor does she need to. Heather made up her mind a while ago.
"I knew her business was unsavory when I was her friend, so why would I change now that it's public?," Heather said, adding that her friendship with Jen is unchanged in the midst of the legal issues. "I have one job and it's to be Jen's friend."
In March, Jen was charged with committing wire fraud and money laundering as prosecutors alleged that she scammed hundreds of people, mostly the elderly, out of millions of dollars as part of a telemarketing scheme. She's pleaded not guilty.
While Heather felt that Jen was up to something shady business-wise, she maintains, "I didn't know it was illegal."
In continuing, Heather said she's been confused for years about the source of Jen's income, as she's never been able to get a straight answer from her.
"Jen was on my podcast and I asked her for, like, an hour, questions about her business, because I love business and I know how hard it is to make money in business," Heather said. "It doesn't just flow. I never understood it, and I just assumed it was something that was right along the line of nothing I'd want to be involved in. I didn't know it was illegal."
"I didn't think you'd go to prison for it," she continued. "I would've said, 'Babe, don't do this. Your life is worth more than that.'"
The most recent episode of "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City" focused on Jen's arrest.
