Nearly two years after suffering immeasurable pain, Granger Smith and his family are adding to the brood.
The country singer announced the pregnancy news in an Instagram video, which was dedicated to the couple's 3-year-old son River, who drowned in the family pool in a tragic accident in June 2019.
"We're pregnant," Granger wrote. "I don't have many words for this video. Life isn't perfect. Sometimes it's beat up and broken but it's NEVER hopeless. God promises that."
He added, "Our story isn't finished yet, and neither is yours! Through our suffering and joy, God's glory radiates through it all," he continued. "A new Smith boy is due in August."
Granger's wife, Amber, also posted the news on Instagram.
"Never did I think at 39 I would be blessed with expecting another baby boy. These past couple of years have been so rough but also so full of so much joy, hope, healing, growing and grace from God," she said in a lengthy post, which also included several religious passages. "Sweet Riv, because of the beautiful life you lived, we are forever changed and we will continue honoring your big, little legacy until we come home to you."
After River's death, Granger and Amber decided to donate River's their son's organs.
In an Instagram video posted on March 1, Amber tearfully spoke about June 4, 2019, the day that changed their lives. The evening, she said, started as a "normal night." As sons River and Lincoln played with water guns outside, Granger watched London do gymnastics. Suddenly he felt things were "too quiet" and "immediately thought pool," Amber recalled, who was inside the house at the time.
Granger soon found River lifeless in the pool. He quickly got the boy out of the water and began performing CPR as Amber called 911.
River lived just over a 1,000 days. "He lived those thousand days to the fullest," Amber said. "He never knew pain. He never heartbreak. All he knew was love and playing, and that's a good way to live."
