Drew Taggart, of The Chainsmokers, has publicly acknowledging his struggles with alcohol, calling it an "addiction."
The Grammy-winning performer shared a video of him playing piano to the group's recent single "Self Destruction Mode." In this caption, Drew spoke of the song's meaning.
"I've struggled with drinking throughout my career as it's an addiction that's woven into the environment we exist in," he penned. "This guilt of not being good enough or not being better ironically sends me into a spiral that restarts my bad habit cycle."
"Self Destruction Mode" is clearly a personal song to Drew, as its lyrics point to cyclical damaging behavior.
"I woke up in self-destruction mode / I press go and I do it again / I love my sins, they're all I know / We got closer than all of my friends," the song says.
Despite the heavy content, Drew maintains that the song, which features Bludnymph, is not a "cry for help."
It's "more of an embrace or celebration of all that I am," he said. "I know that im flawed. i know that i am great and so are you. Never forget it."
This is the first time The Chainsmokers artist has publicly opened up about his struggle.
Over the years, The Chainsmokers, which includes Alex Pall, have gotten headlines for other purposes, including their 2017 Grammy win and from their love lives. In January, Drew was linked to Selena Gomez after his romance with Eve Jobs, the daughter of Steve Jobs, fizzled.
"They aren't trying to hide their romance by sneaking around at members only clubs," a source previously told Us Weekly. "They are so affectionate and having a lot of fun together. Selena can hardly keep her hands off him."
However, it seems that Drew and Selena are no more, as she recently said she was single and "a little high maintenance."
Plus, in February she joked about her love life while lip-syncing a TikTok video.
"Guys, I figured out the reason why I'm single. You have to go outside and meet people. Like, you actually have to go outside and talk to them," she mouthed.
