On the heels of her seemingly volatile split with Zayn Malik, Gigi Hadid is lawyering up, a new report says.
Late last week, multiple media outlets reported that Gigi's mom, Yolanda Hadid, was telling friends that the One Direction singer "struck" her, something he vehemently denied. However, the next day court records showed that Zayn pleaded no contest to four criminal counts of harassment because of the incident.
Court records said he allegedly shoved Yolanda into a dresser inside his Pennsylvania home.
Sometime around the incident, Zayn and Gigi, who share 1-year-old daughter Khai, split up.
"Gigi met with her lawyers last week. She also met with new lawyers to start helping with custody issues," a source told Us Weekly on Nov. 3. "There will be conversations about custody."
The model finds the incident "distressing," but realizes that Zayn "will always have to be a part of her life."
A source told E! News, "Everyone is sad that things got so ugly and took this turn. In every family there is drama and emotions run high, but they feel Zayn crossed a line and he needs to be accountable."
As a result of his no contest pleas, Zayn was put on a 90-day probation for each count, totaling 360 days. He was also ordered to complete an anger management class and a domestic violence program. Further, he's barred from having any contact with Yolanda and the security guard who was on the property during the incident.
A judge can terminate the probation within six months.
After initial reports surfaced about the fight with Yolanda, Zayn posted a statement to Twitter.
"As you all know I am a very private person and I very much want to create a safe and private space for my daughter to grow up in. A place where private family matters aren't thrown on the world stage for all to poke and pick apart," he wrote. "In an effort to protect that space for [my daughter] I agreed to not contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner's who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago."
"This was and still should be a private matter but it seems for now there is divisiveness and despite my efforts to restore us to a peaceful family environment that will allow for me to co-parent my daughter in a manner in which she deserves, this has been 'leaked' to the press," he continued. "I am hopeful though for healing for all involved with the harsh words shared and more importantly I remain vigilant to protect Khai and give her the privacy she deserves."
Afterward, Gigi issued her own statement, albeit less lengthy.
"Gigi is solely focused on the best for Khai," her rep told People magazine. "She asks for privacy during this time."
