Meghan King Edmonds and Jim Edmonds are fighting over a prenuptial agreement signed nearly six years ago.
While the former baseball player is satisfied with the terms of the agreement, the former "The Real Housewives of Orange County" star, who happily spoke about signing it while appearing on the reality TV show in 2014, is contesting it, according to reports.
"Jim's prenuptial agreement is valid, enforceable and generous for a five-year marriage, and we fully expect it to be upheld," Jim's rep, Steve Honig, told Page Six on Friday. "Jim is voluntarily paying Meghan more than three times the amount of child support required by court guidelines. He has been beyond generous to Meghan and provides full financial support for his children."
Speaking specifically about the prenuptial agreement, he added, "Despite any claims being made, both Meghan and her attorney at the time reviewed the agreement several weeks before the wedding and everyone involved agreed to the terms. Meghan herself has publicly explained the agreement was done at her urging because she didn't want Jim's family to think she was trying to take his money."
Meghan, who shares three children with Jim, wants the divorce rhetoric toned down.
"Jim's rep was previously quoted in January as saying Jim has 'no interest in playing this out in the media.' I think that's very important to circle back to, because that's where I stand, too," she told New York Post's gossip page. "We've navigated this in and out of the media over the past few months but at this point, I'm in a really good spot and I just want to move on. The public should turn their attention to more important world events, not our private ones."
Following a cheating scandal last year, Meghan and Jim split. Since then, divorce proceedings have been rather nasty, with their camps engaging in a public war of words.
In April, Meghan said Jim's child support payment "barely pays for groceries."
"Meghan has spent the better part of the past six months airing everyone's dirty laundry in public," Jim's rep said. "She has publicly discussed hers and Jim's sex life, complained about not getting enough child support, accused Jim of indiscretions, publicly humiliated Jim's girlfriend, discussed Jim's vasectomy, talked about what she is going to do with their frozen embryos and pretty much discussed every single aspect of her marriage and divorce on her podcast, social media and in the press."
"She continually speaks to reporters as an anonymous 'insider' and has done whatever she can to get attention for herself and cause harm to Jim with no regard or respect for anything or anyone," the rep continued. "I am absolutely thrilled Meghan finally realizes that I was right all along and there is no benefit to playing this out in public. All of us eagerly await and look forward to Meghan's newfound commitment to silence."
