This weekend, "Saturday Night Live" welcomed former cast member Kristen Wiig back to host the show's Mother's Day "At Home" edition. And as she closed out the show with a loving message of gratitude for her own mom, Laurie Johnston, Kristen, 46, seemed to hint she's expecting.
"This is the Mother's Day show, and at 'SNL,' it's a very special time to celebrate moms," the actress and writer said in the final bit of the show, according to Page Six.
"Unfortunately, probably like a lot of you, I can't be with my mom on this Mother's Day. So, I hope it's OK, I would like to tell her I love her," she continued.
"I don't know if I truly appreciated my mom the first 45 years of my life. But this year I'm feeling especially grateful for her advice, her love," Kristen said.
She then casually tossed this line in: "I'm so thankful for all the things she's taught me, like preparing me to be a mom myself."
The sentimental and perhaps revealing moment was brief. And, being "SNL," it was quickly overshadowed by multiple jokes.
"Things like breastfeeding," the star continued. When she held up a plate of chicken breasts, it was clear we were back in normal "SNL" territory.
"Babies love that chicken, she would always say that," she quipped before flashing her boobs at the camera.
Before signing off, Kristen got serious again.
"I do want to thank my mom, and all the moms out there, who have been helping us get through this and who have been there, and who are watching over us," she said. "We thank you so much, happy Mother's Day. Thank you, moms."
As for the possible pregnancy reveal, Kristen got engaged to her boyfriend of three-plus years, writer, actor, director and producer Avi Rothman, 42, in 2019.
And it would make sense for the comic to use her hosting spot as a chance to share personal news, given her long history with "SNL" (she debuted as a guest in 2004, joined the full-time cast the following year and remained with the show until 2012).
As for the cryptic nature of the announcement, if that's what it was, Kristen and Avi have long kept matters related to their relationship mostly to themselves.
They never confirmed their romance after photos of them sharing a kiss surfaced in 2016. They made no formal engagement announcement, either — Kristen simply showed up to her "Booksmart" premiere in May wearing a new sparkler on her all-important finger.
