Demi Lovato is having an icy exchange with a Los Angeles frozen yogurt shop.
Over the weekend, the singer took umbrage with The Bigg Chill for giving sugar-free varieties prime placement in their stores, saying it was "triggering" for her as someone recovering from an eating disorder. She called the shop "diet culture vultures."
"Finding it extremely hard to order froyo from @thebiggchillofficial when you have to walk past tons of sugar free cookies/other diet foods before you get to the counter," she wrote on her Instagram Story. "Do better please."
The store wasn't about to cave to Demi, saying it has indulgent varieties but also carries items for vegans, diabetics and people with Celiac disease.
In a direct message to Demi, which she shared publicly, the shop said, "We are not diet vultures. We cater to all of our customers needs for the past 36 years. We are sorry you found this offensive."
Demi didn't relent. "You can carry things for other people while also caring for another percentage of your customers who struggle DAILY just to even step foot in your store," she said. "You can find a way to provide an inviting environment for all people with different needs." She even insinuated that the shop was making "excuses."
As Demi's anger built, The Bigg Chill went cold on her and stopped responding. Demi then started throwing out her ideas.
"I was thinking, maybe it would help if you made it more clear that the sugar free options and vegan options are for that," she wrote. "Labeling the snacks for celiac diabetes or vegans. When it's not super clear, the messaging gets confusing and being in LA it's really hard to distinguish diet culture vs. health needs. I think more clearer messaging would be more beneficial for everyone."
Seems that Demi will have to stay cool for the summer somewhere else.
