Collins deleted her X post from Friday, February 14, after it was poorly received by her followers.
"Luigi Mangione's legal defense team has launched a new website today," the journalist shared on the platform, which is formerly known as Twitter.

Mangione pleaded not guilty to the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, who was shot while headed to a board meeting in New York in December 2024.
The website Collins shared allows Mangione's supporters to learn more about his legal battle, in addition to donating money to his defense.

X users were outraged to see the TV star seemingly supporting Mangione.
"CNN 'reporter' Kaitlan Collins promoted a fundraiser for Luigi Mangione. She has since deleted the public relations post for Luigi," conservative influencer Mike Cernovich wrote.

After the New York Post reported that Collins deleted her tweet, she fired back at the outlet for claiming that she shared a donation link for Mangione.
"This is not true," Collins told the outlet on X. "I posted that his attorneys created a website, which is newsworthy and other outlets have also reported on. In no way did I share a fundraising link for him."

While the platform shares information about the University of Pennsylvania alum's case, it also includes a link for financial contributions. Since it allows people to financially help out Mangione, critics were disappointed in Collins.
"You posted a link to a bail fund for someone who murdered someone in cold blood," one person replied. "Sit the f— down."

Various X accounts continued to correct Collins' clarification.
"Yet you knew that his 'website' led to a fundraising link," another shared.
