Commentators at CNN had a good laugh over the dynamic between J.D. Vance, Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
During a Tuesday, February 18, panel on CNN This Morning, the group discussed the president's recent joint interview with the tech mogul and how chummy they seemed. However, one of them pointed out that Musk appears to be playing the role of vice president more than the former senator from Ohio.

Political analyst Jonah Goldberg predicted MAGA loyalists will eventually turn on the Telsa founder.
"I think there's another front in the politics that's not getting a lot of attention. Elon Musk is just making this stuff up as he goes along, right?" Goldberg claimed. "And it's sort of — someone was comparing it to the search for WMDs in Iraq, right? He's constantly looking for stuff and then declaring he's found something. And it turns out he didn't find what he's declared."

However, New York Times reporter Lulu Garcia-Navarro highlighted how the "sort of father-son relationship" between Trump and Musk during the Fox interview should have Vance shaking in his boots.
"I mean, if I were Vance, I would be slightly concerned," the journalist emphasized before bringing up one of Trump's old strategists who expressed their disdain for Musk. "This is a very close relationship. I don't think that we are seeing the [Steve] Bannon wing of the party ascendant."

"First of all, if I were Vance, I'd be day drinking at this point," Goldberg said as the fellow guests laughed.
"There's going to come a moment where the Musk-Trump show hits the point of diminishing returns," the National Review Online founder continued. "They're going to have some embarrassment and at that moment, you're going to see, I think, a section of the MAGA right saying that we backed the wrong horse with this guy."

While the commander-in-chief frequently gushes over Musk, he's been more standoffish about his second-in-command.
When asked earlier this month if Vance would be the person to succeed him in 2028, the former reality star said, "I mean, I don't think that it, you know, I think you have a lot of very capable people. So far, I think he's doing a fantastic job. It's too early. We're just starting."

In a stark comparison, Trump has showered the X, formerly known as Twitter, owner with praise.
When asked about why he brought Musk in to help cut government costs, the right-wing leader said, "You know, I wanted to find somebody smarter than him. I searched all over. I just couldn't do it. I couldn't. I really tried hard. I couldn't find anyone smarter."
