There's a million dollar question hanging over the Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez split… Actually, it's a $1.8 million question: who gets her massive engagement ring?
TMZ reports that the ring is still in Jen's possession, although it's not currently in the Dominican Republic with her for security reasons (she's been there for months shooting a movie).
Legally, an engagement ring is a "gift in contemplation of marriage." If a couple splits before tying the knot, the man usually gets the ring back. But it seems that A-Rod isn't in any hurry to recover the bauble. In fact, the report says that the now-former duo has had "no discussion" about the ring and who it should belong to.
Sources tell the webloid that there won't be a conflict over the ring, and Alex might just let her keep it. Over the course of their four-year relationship, they supposedly exchanged "massive amounts of jewelry." Alex often gifted Jen with diamonds and other accessories, whereas she often contributed to his extensive and expensive watch collection.
For all intents and purposes, the split is amicable.
"We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so," they said in a statement. "We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects."
The breakup between the power couple seems to be have been a long time coming. In March 2021, the couple was hit with split rumors, but they denied the speculation (Jen even dubbed the reports "dumb"). Still, they acknowledged in a statement that they had hit a rough patch and hoped to work through it. Not long after, Jen posted several Instagram photos without her ring.
Interestingly, one day before the couple's announcement, Alex posted a video of several pics of J.Lo to his Instagram Story. In the background, Coldplay's "Fix You" played. He tagged Jennifer in the video, as well.
