How has it already been 20 years?! Two decades ago, audiences were introduced to a crew of nine renegades — led by one Mal Reynolds — who lived aboard Serenity, a Firefly-class spaceship. Fans tuned in weekly to see the treacherous adventures the crew was forced to endure as they traveled the galaxy's unknown areas 500 years in the future. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the sci-fi Western's debut on Sept. 20, 2022, Wonderwall.com is checking in on the actors and actresses from the Emmy-winning series to find out what they're up to (and look like) now…

Nathan Fillion starred as Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds, the captain of Serenity and the leader of the crew.

After starring as Mal Reynolds, Nathan Fillion had continued success on the small screen. As well as appearing on several episodes of shows like "Modern Family," "Santa Clarita Diet" and "A Series of Unfortunate Events," he starred on the popular crime-drama series "Castle" from 2009 to 2016. Since 2018, he's starred as Jonathan Nolan on "The Rookie," which he also executive produces. Nathan was most recently romantically linked to actress Krista Allen, from whom he reported split in 2020 after about four years of dating.

Gina Torres played Zoe Alleyne Washburne, Serenity's second in command who is also Mal's close ally.

Gina Torres has since made appearances on shows like "Gossip Girl," "The Vampire Diaries," "9-1-1: Lone Star" and "Westworld." Her most notable role, however, was Jessica Pearson on the USA Network's legal drama "Suits" from 2011 to 2018. She starred on the show's short-lived spinoff series "Pearson" too. Gina was married to actor Laurence Fishburne from 2002 to 2018. They share one child, a daughter.

Summer Glau portrayed River Tam, an emotionally withdrawn child prodigy who became delusional after undergoing brain surgery at the hands of the Alliance.

Although Summer Glau has yet to eclipse her "Firefly" and "Serenity" fame, she's managed to maintain an impressive acting career. The Texas native, who married actor Val Morrison, with whom she shares 2 kids, in 2014, landed roles on shows like "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles," "Dollhouse" and "Arrow." In 2016, she reunited with "Firefly" co-star Nathan Fillion when she appeared on an episode of "Castle."

Morena Baccarin played Inara Serra, a Companion, or escort, aboard the Serenity ship.

Morena Baccarin followed up her portrayal of Inara Serra with roles in several lauded projects. In addition to starring on "Homeland" from 2011 to 2013 — which saw her earn an Emmy nod for outstanding supporting actress in a drama series — Morena also appeared on "The Flash," "Gotham" (where she met now-husband Ben McKenzie) and, more recently, "The Endgame." She and Ben share two kids. She also has a son from her first marriage to director-producer Austin Chick, from whom she split in 2015.

Adam Baldwin played Jayne Cobb, a mercenary who worked for Mal and carried out smuggling jobs aboard the ship.

After his time on "Firefly" came to an end, Adam Baldwin briefly remained in the Whedonverse when he appeared on five episodes of "Angel." After starring on "Chuck" from 2007 to 2012, Adam reunited with Nathan Fillion for two episodes of "Castle." The father of three is also an accomplished voice actor for video games.

Jewel Staite portrayed Kaywinnet Lee "Kaylee" Frye, Serenity's mechanic. Ron Glass portrayed Derrial Book, a Shepherd, or pastor, on Serenity.

Jewel Staite returned to her sci-fi roots when she starred on "Stargate Atlantis" from 2007 to 2009. Since then, the Canadian actress has had a recurring role on "The Killing" and appeared on episodes of "Castle," "The Good Doctor" and "The Magicians." In 2021, she began starring on the Canadian drama series "Family Law." Jewel shares one child, a son, with husband Charlie Ritchie.

Ron Glass's career slowed down after "Firefly." He had brief roles on "CSI: NY," "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation." Though never married, Ron was a devout Buddhist. He passed away in 2016 at 71 due to respiratory failure.
