Final Couples of 'The Bachelor' and 'The Bachelorette': Where are they now?

For the stars and contestants who make it to the end of each season of "The Bachelor" or "The Bachelorette," that final rose can translate to one of two outcomes: a happily ever after or — much more often — a romance gone wrong. In honor of Becca Kufrin's journey to find love on "The Bachelorette" debuting on May 28, 2018, Wonderwall.com is taking a look at the final couples from all 22 seasons of "The Bachelor" and all 13 seasons of "The Bachelorette" to find out where they are now — for better or for worse, starting with the couple that started it all! On the very first season of "The Bachelor," which debuted in 2002, management consultant Alex Michel picked Amanda Marsh — but he didn't propose. They dated for a few months but ultimately went their separate ways. He became a spokesman for Match.com and Princess Cruises for some time and now appears to be single — though he's seemingly retreated from Bachelor Nation and nothing is known about him currently. Amanda ended up moving on and marrying childhood friend Jay Caldwell, with whom she has a daughter, Chloe. "I still keep in touch with Alex a couple times a year," Amanda, a registered nurse, told Us Weekly in 2012. "We call for birthdays and stuff." Aaron Buerge and Helene Eksterowicz

"The Bachelor" Season 2 star, banker Aaron Buerge, proposed to elementary school psychologist Helene Eksterowicz — it was the franchise's first actual proposal — at the end of the 2002 series, but they split just five weeks after the finale aired. Aaron exchanged vows with insurance agent Angye McIntosh in 2009 and the couple now have two daughters. Helene married IBM technology consultant Andrew Goodman in 2013 and later welcomed one child.

Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter

The one that stated it all! Trista Rehn became the very first star of "The Bachelorette" in January 2003 and in turn became the franchise's very first success story! She picked hunky, sensitive firefighter Ryan Sutter on the show's finale and went on to have a televised wedding that December. Today, they share two children — son Max and daughter Blakesley — and Trista even penned a book in 2013, "Happily Ever After: The Life-Changing Power of a Grateful Heart."

Andrew Firestone and Jen Schefft

Tire and winery heir Andrew Firestone, the star of "The Bachelor" Season 3, proposed to his final pick, publicist Jen Schefft, at the end of the series in 2005 — but they split a few months later and she went on to star on "The Bachelorette." Jen failed to find love on TV again but eventually did get a happy ending with public relations exec Joe Waterman, whom she married in 2009. They now have two kids. Andrew married model-actress Ivana Bozilovic in 2008 and they welcomed their third child in 2015.

Bob Guiney and Estella Gardinier

"The Bachelorette" Season 1 fan favorite Bob Guiney was asked to be the lead on the fourth season of "The Bachelor" in 2003. He gave winner Estella Gardinier a promise ring instead of an engagement ring and — surprise, surprise — they parted ways not long after the show ended. Bob, who hosted "Date My House" on TLC, then met and married "All My Children" star Rebecca Budig, but they divorced in 2010 after five years together. He's currently married to Jessica Canyon, whom he wed in November 2016. As for Estella, she has settled in San Diego where she remains single and works as a fitness trainer and Pilates and yoga instructor.

Meredith Phillips and Ian McKee

"The Bachelorette" Season 2 star, model-turned-makeup artist Meredith Phillips, picked equities researcher Ian McKee on the 2004 finale. He proposed and they lived together for a year before splitting in early 2005. She published "The Date Night Cookbook" in 2008, and, following a romance with filmmaker Fritz Manger, Meredith married her old high-school sweetheart Michael Broady in 2011. In 2013, she made headlines when she publicly revealed her long struggle with alcoholism and announced she was sober. Since then, nothing has been publicly revealed about the former reality star. Ian left the financial industry and in 2009 founded the green sports-facility building firm EcoArenas, which operates in America and his native Brazil. He seems to still be single.

Jesse Palmer and Jessica Bowlin

Former NFL quarterback Jesse Palmer, the star of "The Bachelor" Season 5, gave his final rose to Jessica Bowlin, but he didn't propose. They split not long after the show ended in 2004. Jessica went on to attend law school and is now a married mom! She wed Omar Rawi, with whom she shares son Brady and daughter Parker. Jesse went on to work as a contributor on "Good Morning America," as a sports commentator for ESPN's college football coverage and as a football analyst in Canada for the network TSN. Today, he's best known as the host of "DailyMailTV." He's also still single.

Byron Velvick and Mary Delgado

Pro fisherman Byron Velvick proposed to Mary Delgado at the end of Season 6 of "The Bachelor" in 2004. They never married but remained a couple for five years despite a domestic violence arrest (Mary drunkenly punched her fiance in 2007 after a "Bachelor" reunion taping; they stuck together until 2009). Byron now runs a resort at Amistad Reservoir in Texas and appears to have stayed single, while Mary married James Kordomenos on New Year's Eve in 2015. She lives in Tampa, Florida, where she has her own real estate business.

Jen Schefft and… no one

After her engagement to "The Bachelor" Season 3 star Andrew Firestone ended, Jen Schefft was asked to star on Season 3 of "The Bachelorette." She chose to give her final rose to art gallery director Jerry Ferris on the live finale in 2005 but rejected his marriage proposal. It all worked out well for Jen in the end: She married public relations exec Joe Waterman in 2009 and is now a mom of two.

Charlie O'Connell and Sarah Brice

Sometime actor Charlie O'Connell — the brother of comedy star Jerry O'Connell — starred on Season 7 of "The Bachelor" in 2005. Although he didn't propose, he did give his final pick, registered nurse Sarah Brice, a promise ring, and they dated on and off for five years before splitting for good in 2010. "We had a great relationship," Charlie — who got sober and became a part-time fisherman — told People in 2013. In May 2018, Charlie married Playboy Playmate Anna Sophia Berglund in Montauk, New York. Sarah now calls Dallas home, where she's a married mom raising three little boys and working as the director of clinical marketing for Cutera.

Travis Stork and Sarah Stone

On Season 8 of "The Bachelor," emergency room physician Travis Stork picked teacher Sarah Stone and gave her a ring but didn't propose marriage. It was a smart move, as they split not long after the show ended in 2006. He went on to star on the medical talk show "The Doctors," dated country star Carrie Underwood and in 2012 married pediatrician Charlotte Brown. The couple split in 2015 and Travis has remained single since. Sarah Stone, who now goes by Sarah Stone Smith, has three children with husband Brock Smith.

Prince Lorenzo Borghese and Jennifer Wilson

Italian-American cosmetics entrepreneur Lorenzo Borghese — he gets to use the "prince" title thanks to centuries of membership in a Papal noble house — starred on Season 9 of "The Bachelor" in 2006. He chose not to propose to his final pick, Jennifer Wilson, but they stayed together until early 2007. After that, he pulled a Jason Mesnick and was linked to his runner-up, Sadie Murray; he's since appeared on several reality shows including "Celebrity Big Brother UK" and "Lucky Bastards." He still appears to be single, but we're not sure why — his Instagram is chock-full of photos of him with adorable puppies! Jennifer is now married to accountant Lee Gerschutz and living "a quiet, happy life in South Florida," she told TheAshleysRealityRoundup.com in 2014, and working as a wellness coach for Juice Plus.

Andy Baldwin and Tessa Horst

Physician and Navy Lieutenant Commander Andy Baldwin starred on Season 10 — dubbed "The Bachelor: Officer and a Gentleman" — and became engaged to his final pick, social worker Tessa Horst. The couple made it work for a while, but like so many other couples, called it quits shortly after the finale in 2007. The longtime Iron Man competitor and triathlete, who was a member of the family medicine staff and faculty at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital near Washington D.C. and is now a Navy family physician, briefly dated Donald Trump's ex-wife Marla Maples in 2008 following an overseas mission. Tessa, now an infant development and early childhood therapist, lives in San Francisco with husband Tom Pickard, whom she married in 2013. Tessa shares a son with Tom, while Andy appears to still be single.

Brad Womack and… no one

Bar owner Brad Womack — seen here with franchise host Chris Harrison — famously rejected both of his finalists (DeAnna Pappas and Jenni Croft) on Season 11 of "The Bachelor" in 2007. But barely four years later, he was back to try his luck again on Season 15 — and once again, it wasn't meant to be as he and Emily Maynard called off their engagement just a few months later. Brad, who's still single, currently owns three bars in Austin, Texas — The Dogwood, The Dizzy Rooster and Molotov.

DeAnna Pappas and Jesse Csincsak

Last man standing Jesse Csincsak proposed to "The Bachelorette" Season 4 star DeAnna Pappas on the finale in 2008 and they started planning their wedding for the following year. Alas, they never made it down the aisle, calling it quits in late 2008. But there's still a happy ending for them both: In 2011, real estate agent DeAnna married teacher Stephen Stagliano (his brother Michael Stagliano would be a contestant on "The Bachelorette" Season 5) and in 2014, they welcomed daughter Addison Stagliano, with son Austin following behind two years later. Jesse, a pro snowboarder, also found an off-camera love match with "The Bachelor" Season 13 alum Ann Lueders, whom he married in 2010. Jesse and Ann went on to have three children: sons Noah and Carter and daughter Charlotte.

Matt Grant and Shayne Lamas

British financier Matt Grant starred on Season 12 of "The Bachelor," which was oh-so cleverly subtitled "London Calling." He proposed to winner Shayne Lamas — the daughter of "Grease" and "Falcon Crest" star Lorenzo Lamas — but the two split just a few months later in July 2008. Shayne is now married to Nik Richie, founder of controversial website TheDirty.com, with whom she shares daughter Press and son Lyon. Matt finally tied the knot in December 2017, marrying Rebecca Moring.

Jason Mesnick and Melissa Rycroft… then Molly Malaney

This season was a doozy: Single dad and former "The Bachelorette" Season 4 runner-up Jason Mesnick became the 13th star of "The Bachelor" and proposed to former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Melissa Rycroft in 2009 — then dumped her on live television and revealed he actually wanted to be with runner-up Molly Malaney instead. But despite the rocky start, Jason really did find his soul mate. Jason and Molly are still happily married, living in Seattle and raising their two children.

Jillian Harris and Ed Swiderski

The franchise's first Canadian female lead, interior designer Jillian Harris, gave her final rose to marketing exec Ed Swiderski — who proposed — when she starred on Season 5 of "The Bachelorette" in 2009. But just weeks later, their relationship had fizzled amid reports that Ed cheated. Jillian went on to appear as a design expert on several seasons of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" and host "Love It or List It Vancouver." She and pro snowboarder Justin Pasutto, whom she started dating in 2012, got engaged in 2016. They now have a son, Leo, and a second baby due in October 2018. Ed made headlines when he got together with franchise alum Jaclyn Swartz on "Bachelor Pad 3," but it didn't last. He married "Good Day Chicago" co-anchor Natalie Bomke in July 2015.

Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi

Pilot Jake Pavelka proposed to perceived villainess Vienna Girardi at the end of Season 15 of the show, dubbed "The Bachelor: On the Wings of Love" in honor of Jake's occupation. The honeymoon period didn't last long and they split amid reports Vienna had cheated on Jake with "Greek" actor Gregory Michael. They saw each other again on "Bachelor Pad 2" but both moved on romantically with other people: Vienna dated "The Bachelorette" alum Kasey Kahl while Jake — who also competed on "Dancing With the Stars" — romanced Broadway and TV star Kristin Chenoweth for a few months in 2012 and 2013. Not too much is known about Jake Pavelka today, except that he's still a pilot– he's not even that active on social media. Vienna, who got engaged to boyfriend Todd Allen in 2016 then reportedly split with him later that year, made headlines for a heartbreaking reason in August 2017: She announced that she'd had a miscarriage and lost twin daughters while in the fifth month of pregnancy, though she declined to name their father.

Ali Fedotowsky and Roberto Martinez

After leaving "The Bachelor" Season 14, former Facebook employee Ali Fedotowsky went on to star on "The Bachelorette," where she accepted insurance agent Roberto Martinez's proposal during the Season 6 finale in 2010. But the pair split in November 2011 after more than a year together. Ali went on to launch a successful career as a TV host and started dating radio DJ Kevin Manno in 2013. They welcomed daughter Molly in July 2016 and got married in March 2017. Ali and Kevin welcomed their second child, a boy, in May 2018. Roberto Martinez currently lives in Colorado, where he's an insurance agent. He often shares photos on social media with his girlfriend.

Brad Womack and Emily Maynard

Bar owner Brad Womack returned to star on "The Bachelor" for a second time on Season 15 after he'd rejected all of the women back during his first rodeo on Season 11. This time, however, he proposed to Emily Maynard. They broke up while the season was airing then reconciled after the finale and — you guessed it — called it quits for good in May 2011. She went on to star on Season 8 of "The Bachelorette" but after splitting with her pick, Jef Holm, she went on to marry a man she met at church and have kids with him while Brad enjoyed a fling in 2013 with former franchise contestant AshLee Frazier.

Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum

Another happy ending! After being rejected by "The Bachelor" Season 15 star Brad Womack, dentist Ashley Hebert found love with contractor J.P. Rosenbaum when she starred on Season 7 of "The Bachelorette" in 2011. The couple's December 2012 wedding aired on ABC and after a move to Miami, the couple welcomed their first child, son Fordham, in 2014, followed by daughter Essex in 2016.

Ben Flajnik and Courtney Robertson

This relationship was the definition of roller-coaster romance: Winery owner and "The Bachelor" Season 16 star Ben Flajnik proposed to model Courtney Robertson on the finale in 2012, then they broke up while their season was still airing. They reconciled and got engaged for a second time, but it just wasn't meant to be and they split for good in October 2012. While Ben went on to be romantically linked to Kris Jenner — yes, the Kardashian family matriarch who's 28 years his senior — Courtney dated another franchise alum, race-car driver Arie Luyendyk Jr. They split too and Courtney later shared all the gory details of her romances in a juicy tell-all book, "I Didn't Come Here to Make Friends — Confessions of a Reality Show Villain." Courtney has yet to tie the knot, but openly defended former boyfriend Arie when he received criticism during his time on "The Bachelor." These days Ben Flajnik has a "real" job — working at Yelp! And he's still single.

Emily Maynard and Jef Holm

The second time was not the charm for jewelry designer Emily Maynard, who starred on Season 8 of "The Bachelorette" in 2012. She previously "won" Season 15 of "The Bachelor" when Brad Womack asked her to be his bride, but they split in 2011. She returned to the franchise and chose entrepreneur Jef Holm, who proposed marriage too — but they flamed out a few months later. Emily's story does, however, have a happy ending: In 2014, the single mom married Tyler Johnson — they met at church! — and the couple went on to have three sons together in just two and a half years — Jennings, Gibson and Gatlin. As for Jef, he reportedly is roommates with fellow "Bachelor" alum Robby Hayes and Chase McNary in Venice, California.

Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici

One of the nicest, most genuine guys in the history of "The Bachelor" franchise searched for love on 2013's Season 17… and he found it! Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici had an instant connection, which led to a fairy tale proposal, a TV wedding and two sons — Samuel, born in 2016, and Isaiah, born in 2018! When this show works, it really works!

Desiree Hartsock and Chris Siegfried

Desiree Hartsock became Season 9's "The Bachelorette" after having her heart broken on Sean Lowe's season. But becoming "The Bachelorette" allowed the bridal stylist to pick out her own wedding dress — and her own groom. She got engaged to contestant Chris Siegfried on the show. The two went on to marry and welcomed their first child, son Asher, in October 2016.

Juan Pablo Galavis and Nikki Ferrell

Pediatric nurse Nikki Ferrell might have been former soccer player and single dad Juan Pablo Galavis' final pick on Season 18 of "The Bachelor" in 2014, but he didn't propose — and famously refused to tell her he loved her even as they continued to date after the final rose. The writing was clearly on the wall and the couple split in October 2014. Both are now married to other people — Nikki tied the knot with beau Tyler Vanloo in October 2016, and Juan Pablo wed Venezuelan model and TV host Osmariel Villalobos in August 2017.

Andi Dorfman and Josh Murray

Former pro baseball player-turned-financial advisor Josh Murray famously beat out charming, villainous sales exec Nick Viall to win assistant district attorney Andi Dorfman's heart on Season 10 of "The Bachelorette" in 2014. But despite all their declarations of love — and intense sexual chemistry — Josh and Andi weren't meant to be and announced they'd split in January 2015. Andi has done well for herself post-"The Bachelorette," penning a New York Times bestseller entitled "It's Not Okay" about her time on reality television and failed relationship with Josh. Her second book, "Single State of Mind," was released in January 2018. It goes into detail about some of her worst dates. Josh, on the other hand, returned to Bachelor Nation. He competed on Season 3 of "Bachelor in Paradise," where he met and got engaged to Amanda Stanton. The two had a very tumultuous breakup in December 2016, which included a few calls to the police.

Chris Soules and Whitney Bischoff

"The Bachelor" Season 19 saw Iowa farmer Chris Soules fall in love with fertility nurse Whitney Bischoff, culminating in a proposal on the finale, but seven months later in May 2015 — amid rumors that Chris may have grown too close to his "Dancing With the Stars" partner Witney Carson — the pair announced they'd "mutually and amicably decided to end their engagement." Chris made headlines for all the wrong reasons in 2017 when he was arrested for leaving the scene of a truck vs. tractor accident that resulted in a farmer's death in his native Iowa. A jury trial has been set for November 2018. Whitney, on the other hand, is doing great: She married sales manager Ricky Angel, whom she met on Bumble, in October 2017.

Kaitlyn Bristowe and Shawn Booth

Season 11 of "The Bachelorette" in 2015 started out with controversy when producers pitted "The Bachelor" Season 19 contestants Kaitlyn Bristowe and Britt Nilsson against each other. The powers that be opted to let the male contestants decide who they liked best via a vote on night one. Though Kaitlyn came out victorious, fans weren't impressed by the bizarre start to the season and things only got rockier from there! Kaitlyn made a few scandalous moves, including letting Nick Viall join the suitors nearly halfway through the season, and ultimately spoiled her own finale by accidentally broadcasting the winner on Snapchat. Just like the Snapchat showed, Shawn Booth came out victorious. The two are still together today enjoying a very long engagement.

Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell

Ben Higgins was a fan favorite who took the reins for the 20th season of "The Bachelor" in 2016. The lovable hunk was the first to say those three little words to both of his final ladies, which created plenty of drama when he eventually picked flight attendant Lauren Bushnell and sent real estate developer JoJo Fletcher packing. Unfortunately, both ladies ended up heartbroken. Though Ben and Lauren nabbed their own spinoff, "Ben and Lauren: Happily Ever After?," that question mark had an answer — no! — and the two split up in May 2017. Lauren eventually moved on, meeting current beau Devin Antin on Tinder, while Ben is still healing from their split. But don't worry about him too much, as he's keeping busy! He hosts a podcast with fellow Bachelor Nation alum Ashley Iaconetti (yes, the one known for always crying!) called "Almost Famous," and he launched Generous Coffee, which aims to improve the lives of the farmers who harvest the coffee they purchase… so he's still a nice guy! In May 2018, he told Us Weekly he'd recently started dating again for the first time in three years.

JoJo Fletcher and Jordan Rodgers

After having her heart broken by Ben Higgins, ABC enlisted JoJo Fletcher to helm the next season of "The Bachelorette." Season 12 in 2016 ended up being pretty scandal-free, with JoJo picking between swimmer Robby Hayes and former pro football player (and brother of NFL star Aaron Rodgers) Jordan Rodgers. Jordan won out in the end and he and JoJo are still engaged to this day and living together in Texas.

Nick Viall and Vanessa Grimaldi

In 2017, Nick Viall became one of the most controversial picks for "The Bachelor" in the show's history considering he'd already appeared in three previous installments of the franchise. While he was still working as an account executive, Nick appeared on Andi Dorfman's season of "The Bachelorette" way back in 2014 and lost out to Josh Murray. He later made a surprise appearance during the fourth week of Kaitlyn Bristowe's season, only to stick around and eventually lose out to Shawn Booth. His "Bachelor in Paradise" season gave him a chance to do the dumping, opting not to propose to Jen Saviano, so when it came time for Nick to hand out the roses himself, he was a pretty polarizing figure. Though he had 30 women to choose from instead of the usual 25, things still didn't work out for Nick. He picked and proposed to Canadian contestant Vanessa Grimaldi, but the two only lasted six months after the final episode aired. There were rumors that Nick briefly dated actress January Jones (though she's denied they were ever anything more than friends). In April 2018, Vanessa opened up to fellow Bachelor Nation member Dean Unglert on his "Help! I Suck at Dating" podcast to confirm she was in a new relationship, though she declined to give any details. We guess these two are keeping things mysterious!

Rachel Lindsay and Bryan Abasolo

Rachel Lindsay made history in 2017 when she became the first African-American star of "The Bachelorette." Her season didn't disappoint in the drama category, as viewers watched fan favorite Peter Kraus struggle with the idea of ending the season with an engagement. Business owner Peter repeatedly told Rachel he wanted to get down on one knee only once in his life and that he wasn't quite ready to do that on national television after mere weeks of dating. Because of Peter's hesitations, Rachel ended up picking chiropractor Bryan Abasolo, but not until after her very, very dramatic breakup with Peter. So far things have worked out for Rachel — not only did Bryan propose, but the two are still happily together.

Arie Luyendyk Jr. and Lauren Burnham

A lot of people wondered why Arie Luyendyk was tapped to be Season 22's "The Bachelor" star. The race car driver-turned-realtor hadn't competed on the show since 2012, when he was the runner-up on Emily Maynard's "The Bachelorette" season. His season proved to be full of controversy — and quite possibly actually was "the most dramatic" season yet — because he originally picked publicist Becca Kufrin as his No. 1 and even got down on one knee and proposed, only to later change his mind. He ended up dumping Becca as cameras rolled after the finale and then proposed to his runner-up, tech saleswoman Lauren Burnham, live on the show's "After the Final Rose" special. Needless to say, fans weren't impressed with his heartless move. For now, Arie and Lauren are still together, often posting photos of their happy times on their respective social media platforms. In May 2018, they revealed they'd picked a wedding date and location: Jan. 12, 2019, on the Hawaiian island of Maui.
