In honor of his big birthday, Wonderwall.com is taking a look back at the onetime teen heartthrob, who starred as Troy Bolton on the Disney Channel original movie "High School Musical" in 2006, and other Disney stars to see how they've changed over the years. By the time the third "High School Musical" movie debuted, Zac Efron had already started making the transition into film. He went on to star in comedies like "17 Again," "Neighbors" and "Baywatch" but has had less success in dramatic roles. The former teen idol, who suffered a brief setback in his personal life when he went to rehab in 2013, can be seen next alongside Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams and Zendaya in the movie musical "The Greatest Showman" in December 2017. Since his romance with Vanessa Hudgens ended in 2010, he's dated Lily Collins, Michelle Rodriguez and Sami Miro.

Selena Gomez got her big break at age 7 alongside everyone's favorite purple dinosaur, Barney. But it wasn't until she landed a few guest appearances on Disney's "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" and "Hannah Montana" that she scored the coveted role as teen witch Alex on "Wizards of Waverly Place."

After a brief feud with fellow Disney star Miley Cyrus (over Nick Jonas), a bunch of Disney gigs, a fling with Taylor Lautner, and many chart-topping hits, Selena Gomez made headlines in 2011 when she was spotted canoodling with Justin Bieber during a Caribbean vacation. Since the final episode of "Wizards of Waverly Place" aired in 2012, the moniker Jelena was formed, Selena made more music, she co-starred in "Spring Breakers" and finally moved on from the Biebs with The Weeknd in early 2017. Her music career has remained red-hot for years — as she revealed in 2015 that she suffers from lupus. In the summer of 2017, Selena went public with the news that she'd undergone a kidney transplant as a result of her fight with the incurable autoimmune disease.

Miley Cyrus starred alongside her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, on the hit Disney Channel series "Hannah Montana," which spawned albums, movies and merchandise — making the young singer-actress one of the richest kids in Hollywood. By the time the show ended in 2011, Miley had also been linked to Nick Jonas and model Justin Gaston and fallen in love with Liam Hemsworth, with whom she was first spotted in 2009 after they co-starred in the flick "The Last Song." She even went topless for Vanity Fair. Remember that?

Shortly after the last episode of "Hannah Montana" aired, photos leaked of Miley Cyrus smoking salvia out of a bong while celebrating her 18th birthday. Since then, we've watched as she's transformed herself from an adorable teen star into a salacious twerkin' adult and then back to a more mellow country-inspired artist. The singer-actress romanced Patrick Schwarzenegger and model Stella Maxwell during breaks from her off-and-on relationship with Liam Hemsworth, but she and the Australian actor have been back on since late 2015. In recent years, she's served as a coach on "The Voice," starred on Woody Allen's Amazon series "Crisis in Six Scenes" and released her sixth studio album, "Younger Now."

Many forget that it wasn't actually the hit song "…Baby One More Time" and its super-hot schoolgirl-inspired music video that put Britney Spears on the map. Back in 1993, the Louisiana native got her first taste of fame when she joined the cast of "The All New Mickey Mouse Club," where she sang and danced alongside Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Ryan Gosling and many more.

After the release of her first album, Britney Spears became the princess of pop. But life hasn't always been peachy for Brit. After her failed romance with Justin Timberlake, a brief marriage to a childhood friend and failed marriage to Kevin Federline — with whom she has two adorable sons — the superstar endured a mental health crisis in 2007. But she always had the support of her family, friends and fans. Britney recaptured her superstar status by doing what she does best — making music. Around the time that Britney Spears released her debut album, Christina Aguilera's self-titled album hit shelves and launched her into the spotlight. For years, the pop star did anything she could to shock her fans, including locking lips with Madonna during the 2003 MTV VMAs. Eventually, the singer cleaned up her act, got hitched to Jordan Bratman and had a baby boy. In 2010, Xtina and Jordan called it quits and she began dating Matthew Rutler, whom she met on the set of "Burlesque," one of our all-time favorite B-movies. The pair welcomed a daughter in 2014, the same year they got engaged, and are still going strong. Though Christina hasn't released an album since 2012's "Lotus," she's enjoyed a successful run as an off-and-on coach on "The Voice."

Just like Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake got his start on "Star Search" when he was just 11 years old. A year later, the Tennessee native became a Mouseketeer on Disney's "The All New Mickey Mouse Club," on which he met one of his future *NSYNC bandmates, J.C. Chasez, and gal pal Britney Spears. After "The All New Mickey Mouse Club" wrapped, Justin Timberlake formed the phenom boy band *NSYNC and dated former Mouseketeer Britney Spears. By 2002, they'd called it quits and he'd released his first solo album, "Justified," which eventually led to his departure from *NSYNC. Justin's superstar status — which now includes a film career — helped him rope in high-profile romances with Cameron Diaz and Jessica Biel, whom he married in 2012. They welcomed their first child, a son, in 2015. He scored an Oscar nomination in early 2017 for his hit single "Can't Stop the Feeling" from the animated film "Trolls" and can be seen next in Woody Allen's "Wonder Wheel," which debuts in November 2017.

Hey girl, did you know that Ryan Gosling got his start on "The All New Mickey Mouse Club"? Well, he sure did!

During the late '90s, Ryan Gosling ditched high school for Hollywood. At age 17, he starred on the TV series "Young Hercules." The two-time Oscar nominee, who won a Golden Globe Award in 2017 for his performance in "La La Land," went on to star in films like "The Notebook," "Crazy, Stupid, Love." and "Drive." His romance report is just as hot as his résumé: The hunky star has dated Sandra Bullock, Rachel McAdams, Blake Lively and his current squeeze, Eva Mendes. The duo have two daughters.

Demi Lovato got her start in Hollywood at an early age when she joined the cast of "Barney & Friends" alongside Selena Gomez. In 2007, she moved over to the Disney Channel to appear on "As the Bell Rings." Soon after, she landed a lead part on the network's TV movie "Camp Rock," on which the Jonas Brothers starred. The Dallas-born singer-actress went on to record her first album and scored a sweet gig on Disney's "Sonny With a Chance." In 2010, she and Joe Jonas stepped out as a couple, and Demi joined his band on their tour. In November of that year, she backed out of the tour after a squabble with a dancer and entered treatment for bipolar disorder.

With the help of treatment, Demi Lovato overcame her struggles, and in 2011, she released her third album, "Unbroken." The former Disney star, who served as a judge on the American version of "The X Factor," hasn't acted much in recent years: She had a short stint on "Glee" and appeared on two episodes of off-and-on love Wilmer Valderrama's show "From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series" in 2015. Demi released her fifth studio album, "Tell Me You Love Me" in 2017. She's now single and mingling following her mid-2016 split from Wilmer. In the past year, she's stepped out with fighters Luke Rockhold and Guilherme Vasconcelos and DJ Lauren Abedini.

Aw! Remember when Lindsay Lohan played sassy identical twins in Disney's "The Parent Trap"? She was such a talented little actress that Disney struck a three-movie deal with the New York native. Such a promising start. But as her fame began to grow, so too did her ego. In 2002, she feuded with fellow Disney star Hilary Duff over Aaron Carter, and after her last Disney flick, "Freaky Friday," was released, her personal life took a turn for the problematic.

"Mean Girls" catapulted Lindsay Lohan from a child star into a household name. But in Hollywood, this kind of fame can be trouble. Lindsay's frame began to suspiciously shrink, and she made headlines for her hard-partying ways — and for her drama with her embattled parents, Michael and Dina Lohan, struggles with addiction and seemingly countless run-ins with the law. The singer-actress hasn't released new music since 2005's "A Little More Personal (Raw)" and hasn't starred in a film since 2013's "The Canyons." She did, however, star on a 2014 reality TV show and appear on the 2017 British TV show "Sick Note." In 2016, she made headlines for her tumultuous relationship with Russian heir Egor Tarabasov, to whom she was briefly engaged. Since then, she's been living in Dubai.

Life changed for Ashley Tisdale after she won the role of Maddie on the Disney Channel's "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody." Soon after, Disney cast Ashley as Sharpay Evans in "High School Musical." She returned for the second and third installments in the franchise and also released two solo albums .

Once "High School Musical" wrapped, Ashley Tisdale cheered her way through one season of the short-lived TV show "Hellcats" and starred in "Scary Movie 5." She's since found her second calling as a voice actress, bringing to life characters on "Sabrina: Secrets of a Teenage Witch," "Phineas and Ferb," "Skylanders Academy" and more popular cartoons. In 2014, the Tis married rocker Christopher French.

Before Vanessa Hudgens landed the role of Gabriella on "High School Musical," the brunette cutie made her debut on the TV show "Still Standing" and appeared in the teen drama "Thirteen." Just like her other "HSM" castmates, Vanessa stuck around for all three installments in the franchise. She also released two albums, enjoyed a lengthy love affair with Zac Efron and was even involved in two nudie-pic scandals.

The end of "High School Musical" marked the end of Vanessa Hudgens' days as a teen star and the end of her relationship with Zac Efron. The California girl went on to star in racy films like "Sucker Punch," "Spring Breakers" and "Machete Kills." She also starred as Rizzo on "Grease Live!" and on the short-lived superhero sitcom "Powerless." She and actor Austin Butler have been an item since 2011.

Before Raven-Symone scored her own Disney Channel series, "That's So Raven," she was on "The Cosby Show" and "Hangin' With Mr. Cooper."

Raven-Symone went on to star on the short-lived 2011 series "State of Georgia." She's also had stints on "Empire" and "Black-ish" in recent years. The former child star left a co-hosting gig on "The View" in late 2016 after scoring her biggest acting break of the past decade: The Disney Channel re-launched her old character with "Raven's Home," a spin-off of the series that made her a star, in July 2017. (She also serves as an executive producer.) In 2015, Raven and model-actress AzMarie Livingston called it quits after three years as a couple.

In 2000, a 13-year-old Hilary Duff debuted in the title role on "Lizzie McGuire." For the next three years, she starred on other Disney projects like "Cadet Kelly" and in "The Lizzie McGuire Movie." She memorably feuded with Lindsay Lohan over Aaron Carter's affections before moving on to bigger and better things…

After parting ways with Disney, Hilary Duff recorded a few albums, launched a clothing and accessories line, dated Joel Madden, split from Joel Madden, married Mike Comrie, penned a book and became a mom. (She and Mike welcomed their son, Luca, in 2012.) But it wasn't meant to be: They split in 2014. She's since romanced trainer Jason Walsh, businessman Ely Sandvik and musician-producer Matthew Koma, with whom she reunited in October 2017 after a brief split. Hilary, who currently stars on "Younger," also had a stint on "Gossip Girl" and has starred in several rom-coms over the years.
