'The Big Chill': Where are they now?

In honor of the 30th anniversary of "The Big Chill," we're taking a look back at the film's stars to see how their lives have changed since they danced to "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" in 1983. Keep reading for the highlights!

Glenn Close

Glenn and her family were members of the cult-like Moral Re-Armament movement of the 1950s and '60s. She cut her chops as a singer in the MRA's traveling singing group Up With People, where she met her first husband, guitarist Cabot Wade. But the Connecticut native broke away from the group — and her family — in her early 20s and attended the College of William & Mary, where she studied theater and anthropology. Glenn appeared in a trio of made-for-TV movies between 1979 and 1982 before scoring her first big break in "The World According to Garp." The young actress earned her first Oscar nomination for her role in the film. The following year, Glenn, who was dating Broadway actor Len Cariou at the time, starred as Doctor Sarah Cooper in "The Big Chill" — and earned her second Oscar nomination.

Thirty years and four Oscar nominations later, Glenn is considered one of the best actresses in the business. She has starred in "Fatal Attraction," "Dangerous Liaisons," and "Albert Nobbs" among many other films. Glenn also played Patty Hewes in "Damages," a role for which she won two Emmys. (She's been nominated for 12 Emmys in total.) Glenn was married to businessman James Marlas from 1984 to 1987, and she romanced "World According to Garp" producer John Starke — with whom she had her first and only child, daughter Annie Starke — until 1991. She was engaged to carpenter Steve Beers, though they split in 1999, and finally, in 2006, Glenn married venture capitalist David Shaw.

William Hurt

The Washington, D.C., native was active in high school theater before studying drama at the Julliard School. (He also earned a degree in theology at Tufts University.) William cut his chops on the stage throughout the '70s before transitioning to film in "Altered States" in 1980. He wed actress Mary Beth Supinger Hurt in 1971, though they divorced in 1982 after William became involved with ballerina Sandra Jennings, with whom he had a son, Alex. The following year, William was cast as Vietnam vet and former radio host Nick Carlton in "The Big Chill."

Sandra lived with William while he was making "The Big Chill," but after three and a half years, they split. He moved on with "Children of a Lesser God" co-star Marlee Matlin, who accused him of physical abuse in her 2009 biography. After his relationship with Marlee, William went to rehab, where he met second wife Heidi Henderson, with whom he has two sons, Samuel and William Jr. In 1989, six years after their breakup, Sandra took William to court. She claimed that they had had a common-law marriage, and that she was therefore entitled to spousal support. Despite Sandra's accusations that her ex abused alcohol and beat her, the trial — which was televised — ended in William's favor.

The actor's breakup with Heidi in the early '90s was equally messy: According to some reports, while William's subsequent love, actress Sandrine Bonnaire, was pregnant with their daughter, Jeanne, she lived in the actor's guesthouse — while Heidi occupied the main house. William and Sandrine split in 1997, and he went on to romance "Neighbours" actress Krista Vendy from 2006 to 2010. In spite of his personal struggles, William has enjoyed an incredibly successful career: He won an Oscar in 1986 for "Kiss of the Spider Woman" and has three more Oscar nominations plus two Emmy nominations under his belt.

Kevin Kline

The St. Louis, Mo., native was an aspiring classical pianist before he caught the acting bug while attending Indiana University in the late '60s. After graduation, Kevin studied at New York's prestigious Julliard School on a scholarship. A successful theater career — and an off-and-on romance of almost a decade with actress Patti LuPone — soon followed. The young actor earned his first Tony Award in 1978 and his second in 1981. Kevin transitioned into film the following year in "Sophie's Choice." He brought his portrayal of the Pirate King in "The Pirates of Penzance" to the big screen in 1983, the same year he starred as running shoe entrepreneur Harold Cooper in "The Big Chill."

While auditioning for "The Big Chill," Kevin met actress Phoebe Cates of "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" fame. Phoebe lost out on the part of Chloe, but she won Kevin's heart. They wed in 1989 and now have two children, son Owen and daughter Greta, together. In 1989, Kevin won an Oscar for his performance in "A Fish Called Wanda."

Meg Tilly

The Canadian-American actress studied ballet during her teen years and put her dancing skills to use in her feature film debut in 1980 in "Fame." Sadly, Meg's dancing aspirations weren't meant to be: Her career ended early when she suffered a serious back injury. Jennifer Tilly's littler sister then relocated to Los Angeles to pursue acting. She earned roles in "Tex" — during which she fell in love with producer Tim Zinnemann — and "Psycho II" before she was cast as Chloe in "The Big Chill."

Meg and Tim had two children together, Emily and David, before they divorced in 1989. The young actress moved on with "Valmont" co-star Colin Firth, with whom she has a son, William. Their relationship ended in 1994, and the following year, Meg wed United Artists studio president John Calley. They divorced in 2002, and later that year, Meg married writer Don Calame.

Though the actress scored an Oscar nod and a Golden Globe win in 1986 for her role in "Agnes of God," she left Hollywood behind in favor of a quiet life, working infrequently throughout the '90s before taking a 15-year hiatus in 1995. Most recently, Meg starred in Canadian drama "Bomb Girls." But her most important recent works are her three semi-autobiographical novels detailing young female protagonists' experiences with physical and sexual assault. It wasn't until 2006 that Meg admitted her stories were inspired by her own painful past.

Jeff Goldblum

The Pittsburgh native (right) moved to New York City at age 17 to pursue acting. His career took off quickly (he's also, by the way, and accomplished jazz pianist), and by 1983, when he was cast as People magazine reporter Michael Gold in "The Big Chill," he'd already appeared in small roles in several films — from "Annie Hall" to "Invasion of the Body Snatchers." In 1980, he wed actress Patricia Gaul.

Jeff and Patricia co-starred in "Silverado" in 1985, but they split the following year. The actor moved on quickly with three-time co-star Geena Davis. The duo tied the knot in 1987, but it wasn't meant to be: They called it quits three years later. Jeff was engaged to "Jurassic Park" co-star Laura Dern from 1994 to 1997 and briefly to Canadian stage actress Catherine Wreford in 2003. Jeff also romanced Imogen Heap in 2008, but since 2012, he's been coupled up with Canadian Olympic gymnast Emilie Livingston. The actor counts "The Fly," "Jurassic Park," and "Independence Day" among his biggest hits. He also starred in "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" in 2009 and 2010 and appeared on two episodes of "Glee" as one of Rachel Berry's two gay dads in 2012.

Tom Berenger

The Chicago native studied journalism at the University of Missouri before shifting his career path to acting. Tom cut his chops on "One Life to Live" in the mid-'70s and transitioned to film shortly after. He was married to Barbara Wilson, with whom he has two children: Allison and Patrick, when he was cast as Tom Selleck-like actor Sam Weber in "The Big Chill."

Tom and Barbara divorced a year after "The Big Chill" made him a star. He married Lisa Williams in 1986 and had three daughters, Chelsea, Chloe and Shiloh. They divorced after a decade, and the following year, Tom wed Patricia Alvaran, with whom he has one daughter, Scout. They split in 2011, and Laura Moretti became the fourth Mrs. Tom Berenger the following year. Tom earned an Oscar nomination in 1987 for his role in "Platoon," for which he won a Golden Globe, and in 2012, he took home an Emmy for his performance in "Hatfields & McCoys." Tom also appeared in "Major League," "Gettysburg," "Training Day," "Inception" and many more lauded films.

Mary Kay Place

The Oklahoma native attended the University of Tulsa, where she studied oration and joined a sorority, before relocating to Hollywood. Mary Kay served as a production assistant on "The Tim Conway Comedy Hour" before scoring her first role on "All in the Family." That same year, she earned her first writing credit on "M*A*S*H" — and won an Emmy nomination! Small roles on TV followed until 1976, when Mary Kay was cast as the star in "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman." The following year, she won an Emmy for her performance. Film roles — like in "Private Benjamin" — followed until Mary Kay was cast as attorney Meg Jones in "The Big Chill."

The actress's personal life is unusually quiet: She has never married or had children. But her professional life is anything but. Mary Kay continues to work steadily on television — most notably in "Big Love," for which she scored an Emmy nomination, "My So-Called Life," and "The West Wing" — and in film, memorably in "Citizen Ruth," "Girl, Interrupted," and "Being John Malkovich."

JoBeth Williams

The Houston native attended Brown University, where she studied to become a child psychologist, before she relocated to New York City to pursue acting in the '70s. She cut her chops on soaps "Somerset" and "Guiding Light" before making her feature film debut in 1979 in "Kramer vs. Kramer." JoBeth had a few other films under her belt — like "Stir Crazy" and "Poltergeist" — when she won the role of discontented housewife Karen Bowens in "The Big Chill."

Unlike her "Big Chill" alter ego, JoBeth is happily married — to director John Pasquin, since 1982. They have two sons, Nick and Will, together. The actress works regularly in film and television and has starred in countless made-for-TV movies. She's earned three Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe nomination for acting, and in 1995, she scored an Oscar nomination for the short film she directed, "On Hope."
