Police standoff
Tori Spelling was forced to evacuate from her home in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Oct. 18, as a SWAT team responded to a morning police standoff at a neighbor's house. Multiple outlets reported a man barricaded himself inside a nearby home with a hostage and a rifle. He threatened to shoot the officers before the situation was de-escalated and he was taken away in handcuffs, according to People, which reports no one was injured in the end.
Photos published by Page Six show Tori standing behind yellow police tape with other neighbors near her rental house, looking worried and using her phone during the incident. Her five children don't appear in the pictures, though it's unclear if they evacuated from the area with her.
The incident marks one of multiple stressful events in Tori's home life this year. In June, her husband of 18 years, Dean McDermott, confirmed on Instagram that the two had separated. The news came just weeks after Tori revealed she and her children were struggling with repeated bouts of sickness — the result, Tori said, of "extreme mold" that had been festering in her house. The family moved into a motel temporarily before relocating to safer housing.

'Brutiful' romance
Will Smith made a surprise appearance onstage in Baltimore alongside his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, this week, in a show of support in which he called their relationship "a sloppy public experiment in unconditional love." That's according to the Associated Press, which noted that Jada burst into laughter at Will's description.
Jada was at the Enoch Pratt Free Library discussing her new memoir, "Worthy," in the wake of news that the two secretly separated in 2016 when Will joined her on stage. "I just really wanted to come out and just be here and hold it down for you the way you have held it down for me," Will told her. "We have had a very, very long and tumultuous [relationship]. We call it 'brutiful' — a combination of brutal and beautiful," he continued, according to The Baltimore Sun. The Oscar winner went on to credit Jada with helping him achieve "every single thing I have ever wanted in my entire life" — accomplishments he said "were largely built on the foundation of Jada's sacrifices."
His impromptu speech continued for more than 10 minutes before he concluded, "Jada is the best friend I have ever had on this planet and I am going to show up for her and support her for the rest of my life."
In previous book appearances, Jada's said she and Will were still separated when the actor slapped Chris Rock on stage at the 2022 Oscars in response to a joke Chris made at Jada's expense. Jada's also said she and Will have no plans to divorce, telling Hoda Kotb on the "Today" show that the two are focused on "healing the relationship."
Remembering Paulie
Sylvester Stallone was among the chorus of mourners grieving the death of Oscar-nominated actor Burt Young on Thursday, Oct. 19. Burt, who played Rocky Balboa's brother-in-law Paulie in the first six "Rocky" films, went on to tackle similar "tough guy" characters in movies like "Chinatown" and TV shows like "The Sopranos." He was 83 when he died in Los Angeles on Oct. 8, his daughter, Anne Morea Steingeiser, told The New York Times on Wednesday. She said the cause was not yet known.
Honoring his longtime co-star on Instagram, Sly shared a black-and-white photo of the two. "To my Dear Friend, BURT YOUNG, you were an incredible man and artist, I and the World will miss you very much…RIP," he captioned the post.
Sly's onscreen nemesis, Carl Weathers, aka Apollo Creed, also praised Burt on social media after learning of his death. "RIP, Burt Young! A beautiful and talented soul. He was such an integral part of the Rocky family," Carl wrote, adding, "'You want the bird? Go get the bird.' Paulie will be with us forever! #BePeace."
Burt's turn as Paulie in the original "Rocky" earned him a best supporting actor nomination at the 1977 Academy Awards. A prolific actor (and a former boxer in real-life), he frequently played characters with depth that belied their tough exterior. Reflecting on his tenure as Paulie in a 2020 interview, Burt told Celebrity Parents magazine, "I made him a rough guy with a sensitivity. He's really a marshmallow even though he yells a lot."

Britney's 'breaking point'
After years of navigating over-the-top public interest in her personal life, Britney Spears hit her "breaking point" at age 21 during a sit-down interview for "Primetime," the singer writes in her new memoir, "The Woman In Me."
Diane Sawyer filmed the 2003 interview in Britney's home shortly after the singer's split from longtime boyfriend, Justin Timberlake. First, Diane opened the segment by calling Britney's abs the "most valuable square inch of real estate in the entertainment universe." Then, although the young pop star was still reeling from the end of a relationship she thought was forever, the anchorwoman cornered her on-camera, asking questions based on rumors about her romance and implying she was responsible for the split, according to People.
"He's going on television and saying you broke his heart," the veteran journalist told Britney, who said she was "embarrassed" during the interview multiple times. "You did something that caused him so much pain. So much suffering. What did you do?'" Diane demanded. At other points in the interview, she accused Britney of letting down American moms by wearing sexy outfits on the covers of magazines."I felt like I had been exploited, set up in front of the whole world," Britney writes.
Diane's rep had not responded to People's request for comment as of Thursday, Oct. 19. "The Woman In Me" hits shelves Oct. 24.

After wading into — and back out of — the dating pool with a man 13 years younger than she is, Kim Kardashian says she's looking to "more age appropriate" options. Kim, 42, clarified her romantic goals to friends in the latest episode of "The Kardashians," which saw the mother of four take her sons to an Arsenal F.C. game in London. After a few of her pals suggested there could be some "cute guys" at the match, Kim demanded to know, "Why are you all looking at me?," adding, "I have age limits, guys. I need just a little more age appropriate. I need [someone in their] 40's."
Pete, 29, was the last person Kim dated seriously. The two met on the set of "Saturday Night Live" and went on to date for the better part of a year before they split in August 2022. While Pete's age may have had something to do with the breakup, the romance faced a bigger challenge. At the time, Kim was in the process of divorcing Kanye West, who proceeded to publicly attack Pete, shaming him on social media and recording songs that seemed to threaten Pete with violence.
"When you're single and all your friends are married, it's like you have desperation on your face and everyone under the sun wants to hook you up with someone," Kim said on Thursday's show in a confessional. "I'm genuinely just OK with being by myself for a minute and the right situation will come my way."
In September, a source told People Kim was spending time with Baltimore Ravens star Odell Beckham Jr., 30, though neither has commented on the claim.
Disappearing act
When Gwyneth Paltrow is done with Goop, she may simply "disappear." In a recent interview with Bustle, the Oscar winner and Goop creator was asked about turning 50 last year. Now 51, Gwyneth said "50 was great," then listed all the reasons she's so much more comfortable with her life and self since 50 than she was a decade prior.
"Maybe you can be the person who teaches us all how to head into our 70s and 80s with grace," the interviewer suggested.
"I'll probably try, knowing myself," Gwyneth replied. "Or I might be like, 'F*** this.' I might just disappear, and no one will ever see me again."
The star's disappearing act isn't likely to come anytime soon, though. Asked who would buy her Goop brand for "hundreds of millions of dollars," Gwyneth replied, "I have no idea. We're not ready to sell yet. I need a few more years," telling the reporter she'd "be happy with" an exit from her career at age 55. "I will literally disappear from public life," she said. "No one will ever see me again."
