"Ex's & Oh's" singer Elle King has been on a health journey for the last two years. While pregnant with her first child in 2021, the 5-foot-3 musician was 284 pounds, she revealed in August 2023.
Two years later, she's not only slimmed down but changed her habits — and improved both her physical and mental health.
"Almost 2 years postpartum ! I am making this post to share my journey from 284 lbs at 5'3 from pregnancy 2021 – now 2023," the four-time Grammy nominee captioned a video on Instagram showing a typical day when she's on the road, including how she fits in workouts backstage.
"It doesn't happen over night. It didn't even happen in a year for me. In fact, it's an on going still working towards ever changing goals kinda thing," Elle — seen here in November 2021, two months after she gave birth — began her lengthy post.

"So why am I sharing this? I fell into a very deep depression during my pregnancy," Elle King — seen here while expecting her first child in 2021 — explained in an August 2023 Instagram post.
"I also didn't even realize how intense postpartum depression is and was until I very slowly began to crawl out," she wrote. "I am a creature of habit," she added, "so I changed my f****** habits."

Elle King explained on Instagram in August 2023 that in 2021, she "felt trapped in my body."
"I couldn't even sing. So I started slow. Metabolic workouts. Light cardio to warm up my body, my lungs, my voice, and my spirit," she said.
She soon noticed a change. "Every few weeks I feel my body getting stronger," she shared. So she started adding more workouts.
She does what she can. While on the road, as she revealed in her video post, she'll set up a little area next to her bus on the grass, strap on wrist and ankle weights and do, for example, 30 squats plus some "lunges if ya nasty," she shared in the clip.
Elle's favorite exercises, however, involve her core. "MY FAVORITE," she captioned another portion of her outdoor workout, explaining, "I do anywhere from 180-300 reps ranging from leg lifts [to] bicycles [to] planks." Helps me get my body and my lungs warmed up for a long show and ready to sing!!!!"
She also shared that she exercises with her music director and bass player, Paul DeVincenzo, "who is basically a body builder," she wrote. "But if you don't have one of those then YOU have to be your own champion. Find music you like! Ride a bike! Go for a swim!" Elle suggested.

For Elle King — seen here in November 2022, a little more than a year into her journey — it's not just about weight.
"I thought I wanted to lose weight, but it's so much more," she shared in August 2023, explaining, "My BRAIN functions better on the days I move my body."
But it's not always easy. "Some days I count stretch marks. Some days I hug myself and say thank you to my body. Today is a kind day," she shared, adding, "I've been tiny, I've been huge, BUT RIGHT NOW I'M HEALTHY."

Elle King preemptively shot down any claims she's using meds to slim down.
"I can't believe that I even have to say this, but no, I am not on any weight loss medication," she wrote on Instagram in August 2023 — the same month she's seen here performing at a music festival.
"I have PCOS and am pre-diabetic. My diabetic grandfather died when I was 10 years old. I watched him prick his finger and give himself shots. I do not judge anyone who is trying to live a healthier life," she added, presumably a nod to people who use popular semaglutide drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy.
"I can only share MY OWN JOURNEY!" Elle concluded her post. "I just hope to live a long, wonderful, healthy life where I can drink a lot, eat fish, laugh as much as I can, and die happy."
