These are the fax!
Dolly Parton has been a superstar for about as long as anyone can remember, and speaking to her always seems to be a pleasant experience — if you can get her face to face.
Communicating with her when she's not right in front of you, however, is a whole different ball game.
Dolly hasn't exactly embraced the digital age, as she prefers a much more retro way of staying in touch.

Fellow country music star Reba McEntire has said that getting in touch with Dolly Parton can be troublesome at times.
"You don't call Dolly, you fax her," Reba said on "Apple Music's Southern Accents Radio" in 2022. "You fax your people and your people talk to her people. That's the only way I know to get ahold of her."
During an appearance on "Watch What Happens Live" in October 2023, Reba added, "Dolly does not text. I don't have her telephone number. And I asked Kenny Rogers one time, I said, 'Do you have Dolly's number?' He said, 'No.'"

While speaking to talk show host Drew Barrymore, Dolly Parton opened up more about why she doesn't text.
"I'm a low-tech girl in a high-tech world," she said in November 2023. "I don't want to talk to everybody that wants to talk to me. I don't text 'cause I don't want to have to answer. If somebody calls me, I'll answer it if I want to talk to 'em or I'll call 'em back when I can. Otherwise, I've got too much to think about than to clutter my mind up with everything else."
Dolly's lack of modern-day communication is a preference and not a product of education.
"I'm certainly not a stupid person. I could learn it if I wanted to, but I'd rather just have my fax machine [and] call in my creative stuff to my crew," Dolly said. "And I've got the best crew in the world and I surround myself with great people, but I just don't have time to just sit with my face in the phone all day."

While appearing on "The View" to promote her "Rockstar" album in October 2023, Dolly Parton confirmed that digital communication isn't in her wheelhouse.
In reference to cell phones, text messages, emails and social media, Dolly said, "Actually, I don't want to get into that world. I'm surrounded by enough people."

Dolly Parton is aware that her preferred means of communication is unique.
"Kenny Rogers used to aggravate me about it," she said on an October 2023 episode of "The View," as reported by People magazine, of her late "Islands in the Stream" duet partner.
"I said, 'Look, I'll send you a message by carrier pigeon if I need to get in touch with you,'" Dolly recalled. "You always seem to know how to reach me when you want something!'"

In May 2022, Miley Cyrus, Dolly Parton's goddaughter, said the country legend is "rarely on the phone."
"Every time I coordinate and kind of communicate with Dolly, it's still through fax," the "Flowers" singer said. "Well, we do use the phone, but she does a fax, and then someone scans the fax, and then they put it into a text message, and then that gets sent to me. And it's always signed."

Dolly Parton just doesn't have the time to personally look over emails or to check social media.
"So I actually, I never did get into getting involved in all that because it'll take up too much of my time if I tried to get in touch with everybody who is trying to get in touch with me," she explained on an October 2023 episode of "The View."
"So I just say, 'Fax me! Fax me or call me and I'll call you back.'"
