In May 2023, the Writers Guild of America called a strike to demand better pay from streaming content as well as improved working conditions for its members, marking the first time Hollywood writers have done this since the 2007-2008 strike that lasted for 100 days. And in July 2023, the Screen Actors Guild began a strike for the first time in 43 years, effectively bringing Hollywood to a halt.
