Britney Spears has pushed to remove her father from conservatorship role for years: Report
New information about Britney Spears' conservatorship surfaced this week as she was preparing to speak directly to the judge overseeing her case. According to a June 22 report from the The New York Times, confidential court documents indicate the singer's been pushing to have her father's power over virtually every detail of her life — from who she dates to the color of her kitchen cabinets — curtailed. A court investigator monitoring her case wrote at one point that Britney "said she feels the conservatorship has become an oppressive and controlling tool against her," wielded primarily by her father, Jamie Spears. In fact, though she's avoided speaking out much publicly about her position, the documents show she's wanted her father removed from his role in the conservatorship for years, citing his "harsh" tactics for making her stick to his rules. Britney's grievances include that Jamie pays himself a nice salary from her earnings and investments while keeping her on a strict allowance. Under his leadership, she's said, the conservatorship "comes with a lot of fear." She's expected to appear remotely at her hearing on June 23.
