On July 1, 2021 — what would have been Princess Diana's 60th birthday — her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, came together in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace in London to unveil a statue of their mother to honor her legacy. "Today, on what would have been our Mother's 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength and character — qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better," the Duke of Cambridge and the Duke of Sussex said in a joint statement. "Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy," they continued, going on to thank Ian Rank-Broadley, the artist and sculptor who created the statue, and Pip Morrison, the landscape architect who designed the memorial garden in which the statue was erected, as well as the men's teams "for their outstanding work" as well as "the friends and donors who helped make this happen, and … all those around the world who keep our mother's memory alive."
