Britain's Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh was laid to rest inside St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle in a ceremonial funeral rife with military imagery on April 17, 2021, eight days after his April 9 death at 99.

Pallbearers from the Royal Marines carried Prince Philip's coffin during his funeral at Windsor Castle on April 17, 2021. The Duke of Edinburgh's casket was draped in his personal standard, or flag, which is split into quarters and with its symbols honors his British titles, his birth as a prince of Greece and Denmark and his Mountbatten family heritage. Sitting atop the coffin were his naval cap and sword (he served in the Royal Navy and saw combat during World War II).

The coffin of Prince Philip was driven across the grounds of Windsor Castle to St. George's Chapel, where his funeral was held, on April 17, 2021. The Duke of Edinburgh's casket was not transported in a traditional hearse but, per his wishes, atop a customized military green Land Rover that he helped design beginning 18 years earlier in anticipation of his passing.

Following the service, Philip was laid to rest in the Royal Vault under St. George's Chapel where three kings — George III, George IV and William IV — along with about 20 other royal family members, are interred. However, it will not be his final resting place. Following the death of his wife, Queen Elizabeth II, the Duke of Edinburgh's casket will be moved to be with hers inside the King George IV Memorial Chapel, which is also located inside the church. That small chapel is where the queen's parents, King George VI and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, are buried and where the ashes of her sister, Princess Margaret, are interred.

Before his death, Prince Philip helped select the medals and regalia that were sewn, using transparent fishing wire, onto nine velvet cushions and placed on the altar inside St. George's Chapel for his funeral service. Among the many items are his Royal Air Force wings and Field Marshal's baton, the Greek Order of the Redeemer and the Danish Order of the Elephant — a nod to his birth as a prince of both Greece and Denmark — as well as his Royal Victorian Order collar and badge, British Empire collar and Grand Masters badge, Royal Victorian Chain and Order of Merit.
