You would be so touched by all the tributes that have been shared with me the past few days. People remember sitting next to you at a dinner, or shaking your hand once, who remember you saying hello in passing, or remember how much their DofE award meant to them. I remember learning how to cook, how to paint, what to read. I remember laughing at your jokes and asking about your spectacular life and service in the navy. I remember incinerating the sausages and you swooping in to save the day. I remember your hands and your laugh and your favourite beer. I will remember you in your children, your grandchildren and great grandchildren. Thank you for your dedication and love for us all and especially Granny, who we will look after for you. With all my love Eugenie"

Grandson Prince Harry released a loving statement about the Duke of Edinburgh on April 12 — one day after he arrived in Britain from California ahead of Prince Philip's funeral on April 17… "My grandfather was a man of service, honour and great humour. He was authentically himself, with a seriously sharp wit, and could hold the attention of any room due to his charm — and also because you never knew what he might say next," the Duke of Sussex began his statement. "He will be remembered as the longest reigning consort to the Monarch, a decorated serviceman, a Prince and a Duke. But to me, like many of you who have lost a loved one or grandparent over the pain of this past year, he was my grandpa: master of the barbecue, legend of banter, and cheeky right 'til the end." Harry continued, "He has been a rock for Her Majesty The Queen with unparalleled devotion, by her side for 73 years of marriage, and while I could go on, I know that right now he would say to all of us, beer in hand, 'Oh do get on with it!' So, on that note, Grandpa, thank you for your service, your dedication to Granny, and for always being yourself. You will be sorely missed, but always remembered — by the nation and the world. Meghan, Archie, and I (as well as your future great-granddaughter) will always hold a special place for you in our hearts." Harry ended his statement with "'Per Mare, Per Terram,'" which is the motto of the Royal Marines and is Latin for "By Sea, By Land." It appears to be a nod to Harry having taken over the Duke of Edinburgh's position as Captain General of the Royal Marines from 2017 to 2020 before he had to give it up after stepping down as a senior royal.

Prince William shared this loving statement about his grandfather on April 12… "My grandfather's century of life was defined by service — to his country and Commonwealth, to his wife and Queen, and to our family. I feel lucky to have not just had his example to guide me, but his enduring presence well into my own adult life — both through good times and the hardest days," the Duke of Cambridge began a loving message he posted on Instagram on April 12 alongside a previously unseen photo of his eldest son, Prince George (see it on the next slide), sitting in a carriage with great-grandfather Philip in 2015. "I will always be grateful that my wife [Duchess Kate] had so many years to get to know my grandfather and for the kindness he showed her. I will never take for granted the special memories my children will always have of their great-grandpa coming to collect them in his carriage and seeing for themselves his infectious sense of adventure as well as his mischievous sense of humour! My grandfather was an extraordinary man and part of an extraordinary generation. Catherine and I will continue to do what he would have wanted and will support The Queen in the years ahead. I will miss my Grandpa, but I know he would want us to get on with the job."

This is the photo Prince William shared on April 12 alongside his emotional statement honoring grandfather Prince Philip. The image, which was snapped by Duchess Kate, shows the Duke of Edinburgh and great-grandson Prince George atop a carriage in Norfolk, England, in 2015.
The late Duke of Edinburgh's only daughter, Princess Anne, shared this statement two days after her father's passing… "You know it's going to happen but you are never really ready. My father has been my teacher, my supporter and my critic, but mostly it is his example of a life well lived and service freely given that I most wanted to emulate. His ability to treat every person as an individual in their own right with their own skills comes through all the organisations with which he was involved. I regard it as an honour and a privilege to have been asked to follow in his footsteps and it has been a pleasure to have kept him in touch with their activities. I know how much he meant to them, in the UK, across the Commonwealth and in the wider world. I would like to emphasise how much the family appreciate the messages and memories of so many people whose lives he also touched. We will miss him but he leaves a legacy which can inspire us all."
"It was right for him. It was so gentle. It was just like somebody took him by the hand and off he went. Very, very peaceful. And that's all you want for somebody isn't it?" –Sophie, Countess of Wessex said of Prince Philip's final moments while speaking to the royal household after a church service at the Chapel of All Saints in Windsor Great Park two days after the Duke of Edinburgh's death, as reported by ITV
"It's been a bit of a shock. However much one tries to prepare oneself for something like this, it's still a dreadful shock. And we're still trying to come to terms with that. And it's very, very sad. But I have to say that the extraordinary tributes and the memories that everybody has had and been willing to share has been so fantastic. It just goes to show that he might have been our father, grandfather, father-in-law, but he meant so much to so many other people…" –Prince Philip's youngest child, Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, after a church service at the Chapel of All Saints in Windsor Great Park two days after the Duke of Edinburgh's death, as reported by ITV
"It's a terrible loss but my father said to me on the telephone a few months ago that we're all in the same boat and we must always remember that. But occasionally we, in the family, are asked to stand up and show compassion and leadership and unfortunately with my father's death, it has brought it home to me not just our loss but actually the loss that everybody has has felt for so many people who've as it were died and lost loved ones during the pandemic. And so we are all in the same boat, slightly different circumstances because he didn't die from COVID, but we're all feeling a great sense of loss. But at the same time the tributes have been absolutely amazing, that I've seen, and the messages that I'm getting are absolutely outstanding. And I just want to say how grateful I am, we are, for these tributes. He was a remarkable man, I loved him as a father. He was so calm — if you had a problem, he would think about it. And that's the great thing that I always think about, is that he was always somebody that you could go to and he would always listen. It's a great loss. I think the way I would put it is we've lost almost the grandfather of the nation and I feel very sorry and supportive of my mother who's feeling I think more than everybody else. The queen as you would expect is an incredible stoic person, and she described his passing as a miracle, and she's contemplating, I think is the way that I would put it. She described it as this having left a huge void in her life but we, the family, the ones that are closer, are rallying around to make sure that we're there to support her. And I know that there is a huge amount of support not just for her but for everybody as we go through this enormous change." –Prince Philip's second son, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, after a church service at the Chapel of All Saints in Windsor Great Park two days after the Duke of Edinburgh's death, as reported by Sky News
Prince Philip's eldest son, Prince Charles, emerged from mourning one day after the Duke of Edinburgh's death to share a message with the world on video. "I particularly wanted to say that my father, for I suppose the last 70 years, has given the most remarkable, devoted service to the queen, to my family and to the country, but also to the whole of the Commonwealth," the Prince of Wales began. "As you can imagine, my family and I miss my father enormously. He was a much loved and appreciated figure and apart from anything else, I can imagine he would be so deeply touched by the number of other people here and elsewhere around the world and the Commonwealth, who also I think share our loss and our sorrow. My dear papa was a very special person who I think above all else would have been amazed by the reaction and the touching things that have been said about him and from that point of view we are, my family, deeply grateful for all that. It will sustain us in this particular loss and at this particularly sad time. Thank you."
