As 2016 draws to a close, it's time to relive some of the fun, funny and jaw-dropping examples of how the stars are nothing like the rest of us! Take, for instance, the fact that they insure their body parts and vocal talents. Mariah Carey reportedly took out policies to cover her legs and voice while she toured in 2016 — for a whopping $70 million!

Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady have a private chef who caters to their every whim. While that probably doesn't come as much of a surprise, what is shocking is just how strict Gisele and Tom's diets are. Their chef, Allen Campbell, revealed in a January interview with Boston.com that "If it's not organic, I don't use it. And [they only eat] whole grains: brown rice, quinoa, millet, beans. The other 20 percent is lean meats: grass-fed organic steak, duck every now and then and chicken. As for fish, I mostly cook wild salmon." Not included in their diet? Any caffeine, dairy, white sugar, white flour, MSG, iodized salt, fungus, heated olive or canola oil and nightshades, which rules out tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, and eggplants.

In September, Kim Kardashian West revealed that she took around 6,000 selfies during a four-day vacation in Mexico. (That works out to at least one selfie a minute for the entire duration of the trip — with no breaks for sleep!)

Um, $10,000 a night for an Airbnb? Must be nice to be Beyonce! When the star made a guest appearance at Super Bowl 50 in February 2016, she made sure she had A-list accommodations. Beyonce booked a $10,000 Airbnb in Los Altos Hills, California — 30 minutes away from the stadium in Santa Clara, California — which featured five bedrooms and eight bathrooms and sat on 11 acres.
That willpower! The Rock wasn't born with that body, and he explained just how disciplined he has to be to keep it lookin' good while visiting "The Tonight Show" in June 2016. Dwayne Johnson revealed he hadn't eaten candy in 27 years. "I'm just not a big candy guy. You know, I love cheat meals. Right? I love that, but I'm just not like… a candy thing," he confessed to Jimmy Fallon. In response to that, Jimmy made The Rock eat — what else — Pop Rocks!
$40K a month could buy a car or a year's worth of college tuition or… if you're Taylor Swift, it could pay for one month's rent at your New York City apartment. That's how much Taylor is spending for her temporary four-story place in the West Village while the apartment she owns undergoes renovations. Must be nice!
Well, here's a new one! Celebs' looks can work against them. Charlize Theron spoke out about her belief that being pretty makes her lose out on jobs. The stunning 5-foot-10 actress lamented to British GQ that good-looking actors are often passed over for "meaty roles." Must be rough!
They save people's lives! When Jamie Foxx saw a terrible car crash in front of his house on Jan. 18, he ran out to see how he could help. The actor called 911, but he also pulled the driver from his burning car. Jamie said he acted heroically because he feared the car would blow up with the driver still inside while they waited for help. Jaime also met with the driver's dad who has expressed his gratitude to the actor for saving his son's life. Jamie Foxx: not just a hero on the big screen.
Wow! Celebrity real estate typically fetches a pretty penny, but Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber's family home is going for a hefty amount that's pricey even by celeb standards. The couple recently listed their Malibu pad for — wait for it — $60 million, which equals about $15 million per bedroom.
Ben Affleck revealed on "The Graham Norton Show" in November that while he was in London shooting "Justice League," he took his son Samuel, 4, to an indoor play park where none other than Prince George and Princess Charlotte were running around. Unfortunately for Samuel, he left the royal playdate with something unexpected — a cold! Ben, however, saw the bright side, noting, "I can now tell him that he got a cold from the King of England!"
In March 2016, Khloe Kardashian revealed that she washes her sheets every two days and washes and bleaches her towels after each use. "I looked up what the Internet recommends and found out that maybe I'm just a little bit more fanatical about being clean than I thought," she admitted on her website. Ain't nobody got time for that, Koko!
Selena Gomez topped 100 million followers on Instagram this year and is currently sitting pretty as the most-followed person on the platform with more than 103 million followers. Must be nice!
Getting your hair dyed can be really expensive, but if you're a celebrity, it's just chump change. That's why Gwen Stefani hasn't thought twice about the fact that she's been getting her roots done every week — for the last two decades! Her hairstylist spilled the beans on all that upkeep to E! News, sharing that he works on the pop star's hair every seven or eight days. He's also created a special bleaching formula just for Gwen to prevent damaging her hair (he also utilizes a conditioner to style her coif instead of hairspray). As for keeping her look the same over the last 20 years, Danilo doesn't care about incoming and outgoing hair trends. "I know roots are in right now… but I don't like them on her. I want her to look seamless." And look seamless she does!
When a touching GoFundMe cause pulls at our heartstrings, we might give $20 or $50. But when Ellen DeGeneres donates, she goes a little further. The talk show host (with some help from Shutterfly) rewarded a 17-year-old Good Samaritan with $10,000 for finding and returning Chris Hemsworth's wallet in April 2016.
One thing about celebrities? They don't often make good neighbors. And sometimes even the other famous people living nearby can't take it. Those who live in Chris Brown's neighborhood are not fans of the singer after he recently took his ATV out for a ride around their streets. Even Los Angeles Lakers star Nick Young, who also lives near Chris, joined up with other neighbors requesting that the star move. He posted a video earlier this year in which he can be heard saying, "Chris Brown, you gotta move. Go on, get away from here!"
Jennifer Lopez seriously pampers her pooches. In August, a report surfaced alleging that the superstar's diva doggies, boxers Bear and Rocky, recently indulged in a spa day that cost an estimated $350 per pup. The classy canines reportedly got massages, hot-oil treatments, pedicures, teeth cleanings, baths and blow-drys at the high-end Dog Store in the Hamptons. Sounds like J.Lo's dogs have better lives than we do!
Maybe you got your mom some flowers or a pretty piece of jewelry for Mother's Day earlier this year? Well, no matter what you did for her, Leonardo DiCaprio one-upped you: The actor picked up an $18,100 Chanel bag for his mom, Irmelin Indenbirken, at the Heart Fund's Generous People Dinner Gala during the Cannes Film Festival.
Gwyneth Paltrow hawked her most insane piece of GOOP advice yet in May — and also gave us a great example of the disparity between celebs and us regular folk. The star's website put together its first sex-themed suggestions list. Among them? A $15,000 dildo that comes in either 24-karat gold or stainless steel. TMI, Gwyneth, TMI.
It pays to be a Zac Efron fan! In March 2016, the heartthrob dropped nearly $1,000 on a new iPhone for a super-fan who broke his cell while attempting to take a Snapchat video of the A-list actor on the set of his upcoming film, "Baywatch." What a gent!
They get paid huge bucks to play around with makeup. Rihanna inked a deal worth a reported $10 million in April to create Fenty Beauty by Rihanna. Her line with the Kendo division of LVMH will launch in the fall of 2017.
When you're a star, people are willing to pay $20,000 to see you perform for just one night! When Lin-Manuel Miranda took the stage in Broadway's "Hamilton" for the last time in July, some die-hard fans reportedly forked over as much as $20K a ticket. Also in the audience that night: Jennifer Lopez, Jane Fonda, Spike Lee, Aaron Paul and Mariska Hargitay. (But no word on how much they paid to be there.)
When you're a star, you can create your own accent — and then capitalize on it! That's what happened when Lindsay Lohan started speaking with a bizarre twang, which she dupped "LiLohan." After her odd new speaking pattern made news, the star launched a "LiLohan" clothing line — featuring T-shirts, sweatshirts and tank tops with the words "I ONLY SPEAK LILOHAN" emblazoned on them.
Hands down, the best-dressed celeb at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards was an adorable little lady by the name of Blue Ivy Carter. Beyonce and Jay Z's daughter donned a stunning Mischka Aoki gown during the star-studded award show. Want to steal this look for your little one? The dress will set you back nearly $11,000 at Bergdorf Goodman. NBD.
We knew Madonna was the Queen of Pop, but this is ridiculous. In March 2016, Rita Ora revealed that when she first met the superstar, Her Madgesty asked her to kneel while they spoke. "I was once doing a charity event and I met my idol Madonna. I was waiting for her and I was shivering… And Madonna walks in with lighting all around her," Rita recalled to The Mirror. "I said, 'Hi, it is so nice to meet you,' and she was like, 'This is the lighting here. Can you just kneel down here on the floor?' I was like, 'Okay!' So I kneeled down on the floor and we had this conversation where I was on the floor. Can you believe that? But that is Madonna and she can do whatever she wants." If you say so, Rita.
If we name-dropped our ex, it wouldn't exactly make national news. But when Serena Williams sat down for Vogue's 73 questions and subtly referenced an alleged former flame, people took notice! The reason? She replied "Aubrey" after being asked to name the funniest person in her life. And hard-core Drake fans know that's the rapper's real first name.
Stars spend $38,000 on jewelry like it's nothing! In reality, $38K is a splash in the bucket to Skinnygirl founder and "The Real Housewives of New York City" star Bethenny Frankel. The mogul shelled out that amount on Cartier jewelry in June for a few simple stacked rings and bracelets. Imagine how much jewelry she could get at Claire's!
These days, us normal folk often share pregnancy news with a cute Instagram post, or maybe an old-school snail mail announcement. But not Jenelle Evans! The "Teen Mom 2" star's latest pregnancy was revealed in a very unconventional way — through a police car accident report. The media picked up on it and announced it before Jenelle could share her big news.
Move over, Taylor Swift! You might have a squad of supermodels and famous ladies in your orbit, but Emily Blunt and John Krasinski have a whole slew of famous couples in theirs. While the married pair was in New York City in late September, they filled their weekend with double dates with couples like Matt Damon and Luciana Barroso, Chelsea Clinton and Mark Mezvinsky, and Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux.
Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen were out in New York City on May 18 toting bags with a combined retail value of $72,000. The purses, both from their The Row line, were made of alligator skin, with Mary-Kate's tote selling for $42,000 and Ashley's retailing for $30,000. Looking to snag yourself a bag and match Mary-Kate or Ashley? We're sorry to inform you that they're currently sold out. Maybe go for a new car instead?
We all want to get in better shape, but when you're a celebrity, sometimes it's part of the job description. Olivia Munn needed to transform her body for her role in "X Men: Apocalypse," so she adhered to a pretty insane diet. The star told Women's Health magazine, "I started getting into eating 20/80, where 80 percent of your diet is fruits and vegetables, and 20 percent is whatever." Sorry Olivia, but that's one diet we don't feel like signing up for anytime soon.
Kate Hudson wore a small fortune at the 2016 Golden Globes! When most people want to accessorize for a night out, they bust out their best costume jewelry. But Kate donned the real deal, wearing $1.3 million worth of Forevermark diamonds in the form of two eternity bands and massive diamond drop earrings. The price tag for her bling was six times the cost of the average American home.
Most people dream of owning maybe one townhouse in New York City, but Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick aren't most people. The couple purchased two townhouses in Greenwich Village for a completely casual $34.5 million. If that price tag makes you sweat, take comfort in the fact that the homes are actually estimated at $44 million — so SJP actually got a great deal!
What girl doesn't dream about living in a castle? How about living in a castle with tons of cats? Sounds like paradise, right? Well, that's Enya's real life! The Irish singer has a $132 million fortune, which she has used to fortify the castle where she lives with security guards, hired help and her beloved cats. Nice, right?
Most women shop at Target. But if you're Victoria Beckham, you design your own line for the store. "For a while now, I have been thinking how great it would be to work on clothes for a customer that either doesn't want to pay or can't pay designer prices," Victoria told Target.com. "I loved the idea of opening the brand up to a wider audience and being able to share my vision with a broader customer base. So when Target — a company based on accessibility and inclusiveness — proposed a collaboration which combined all of these things, it was an easy decision to make."
They ask their team to help them figure out how they can best burn calories while having sex! While most people rely on the displays on treadmills or elliptical machines to estimate how many calories they're shedding, Khloe Kardashian revealed that she uses a sex calculator to do it. "I had my team put together a list of sex positions that burn the most calories, because what's more fun than getting down???" she shared on her website in April. "I even found this 'sex calculator' that tells you exactly how many calories are burned between the sheets based on your gender, weight, position, style ('slow,' 'frisky' or 'fast and furious,' haha) and time frame."
Now THAT has gotta hurt! Bella Thorne took to Snapchat to document getting her eyebrows — are you ready for this one? — tattooed. As in, permanently. The 18-year-old showed off the process on social media, and for those wondering what happens when full eyebrows are no longer in style? The Daily Mail reported that the tattoo really only lasts for three years.
Kim Kardashian West let fans in on the secret to her flawless face on Snapchat, and it comes at a steep price: $1,230, to be exact. Her morning routine includes plenty of La Mer including the La Mer Perfecting Treatment ($240), The Concentrate ($440), The Renewal Oil ($240), and Creme de la Mer ($310). Good skin doesn't come cheap!
When stars find causes they're passionate about, they're able to make a change in a big way. The Game was inspired by the work police officer Tommy Norman was doing with youth in Little Rock, Arkansas, and wanted to get involved. He started a GoFundMe page and donated the first thousand dollars to get the page started, which he promoted with son Harlem. He helped raise more than $72,000 for the cop with a heart of gold to continue to help his community, and that number is growing every day.
Their pets receive care packages from other stars! Drake reportedly sent piles of gifts to Taylor Swift's home in November, but the items weren't for the singer — they were for her cats, Olivia Benson and Meredith Grey. It's believed that the rapper got the cat stuff from Petco, just as rumors swirled that he and the pop star had been collaborating on music.
Britney Spears' dogs are truly living their best life! When TMZ reported on Britney's latest conservatorship court documents in early August, it was revealed that the star splurged heavily on the lives of her four-legged friends in 2015 — to the tune of $37,360! But that doesn't match up with the amount she spent on her own pampering: According to TMZ, documents show the superstar spent $67,800 on "massages, grooming and nails" that same year.
Can you imagine making $33 million dollars during your lifetime? How about spending that amount of money… in one hour? Brad Pitt reportedly did just that, and it wasn't on a house or a plane or a fleet of cars. Brad reportedly spent that amount of dough on antique furniture and art.
Buying a house in Malibu down the street from your boo sounds like a dream, and for Miley Cyrus, it's a reality. After rumors circulated that she was reuniting with former fiance Liam Hemsworth, the singer spent $2.5 million for a little home in the 'Bu, conveniently located very close to Liam's beach pad.
If you want Sharon Stone to come to your party, too bad. Unless you can satisfy her demands, the actress won't be making an appearance. Sharon reportedly opted out of a party during the Cannes Film Festival because the party hosts wouldn't give her $300,000, eight hotel rooms and a private jet for transportation. Maybe we'll try this one next time we get an undesirable invite from the in-laws!
Would you pay someone to bite you? While us normal kids probably wouldn't, the rich and famous have been flocking to a certain masseuse named Dorothy Stein. Dr. Dot, as she's known, uses her teeth to knead people's shoulders. She recently told Billboard magazine, "I went to every Def Leppard show and massaged them. I built a network with those people and eventually started massaging bands to get into shows." Among her celebrity clientele? Katy Perry, Kanye West and Eminem. One star that specifically did not want the teeth method? Mariah Carey. So maybe Mariah is sort of like us?
If you're lucky enough to be a homeowner, you probably dream of someday making a little bit of money when you eventually sell it. And by a little bit, you probably hope for $50K, or perhaps $100,000 if you really luck out. But if you're a celebrity, you don't just make a little bit off of the sale — you make $1 million! Charlie Sheen did just that in July when he sold his Los Angeles mansion for $5.4 million — a cool million more than he bought it for back in 2012.
Their style is so legendary, it inspires clothing lines! Courtney Love teamed up with Nasty Gal in January for an 18-piece collection based on her rock-star style aesthetic from her grunge-rock glory days. The "Love, Courtney by Nasty Gal" brand identifies its pieces as "a bada– collection of lingerie you can wear all day," and it includes a baby-doll dress and a lace leotard, natch. Courtney spoke to Vogue about the line, explaining, "There were photos and I had a few [pieces] that I had saved. We went through some of my rock-star '90s stuff and redid that in a more modern context, and some new things as well."
When you're a celebrity, a regular fish tank just won't do. If you're Tyga, you require a money-themed fish tank — via the geniuses from the show "Tanked." "I wanted to do something like a bank vault. Something that symbolizes money, like racks all in the tank," Tyga told E! News. In light of his recent money troubles, the fish tank seems a little ironic.
Khloe Kardashian brought new meaning to the term "ordering off the menu" when she and NBA star Tristan Thompson stepped out for a romantic dinner date at Prime 112 restaurant in Miami on Sept. 18. The reality TV star reportedly found the steakhouse's menu wanting, but rather than head elsewhere, Koko asked to have a dish from a neighboring restaurant brought to her. "Khloe wanted the Kobe meatball from across the street at Prime Italian, so her server went running to get it," a witness told the New York Post.
Sometimes it feels like stars will try just about anything to stay young and beautiful, and Kim Zolciak-Biermann is no exception. The reality star underwent a "Venus Freeze" treatment that involved cooling down her buttocks in an attempt to keep them "tight."
What would you do with $20 million? If you're like us, you probably can't even begin to wrap your head around what it would be like to have that much dough in the bank. But that's no problem for Jennifer Lopez, who was spotted hunting for homes in the $20 million range in Beverly Hills in late February. (We probably couldn't afford to rent the closet in her guest house.)
Mariah Carey displayed just how much she differs from the average Joe when she booked her two Jack Russell terriers first-class seats on a flight from Aspen, Colorado, to Los Angeles… and she wasn't even on the plane! Aside from ensuring her pets a luxurious ride in the skies in the "deluxe cabin" of the airliner, the pets also required extra-special care on the late January flight. Since the two dogs, Cha Cha and Jill E. Beans, don't get along, they also needed to travel with two members of Mariah's staff, and had to be "placed in separate kennels for the journey," according to the New York Post. The cost for this extravagant puppy travel? A cool $2,000 per dog.
