King Charles III has been diagnosed with "a form of cancer" and will step back from his public duties, Buckingham Palace announced on Feb. 5, 2024. "During The King's recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer. His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties," a statement said. "Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual."

While speaking at an event for London's Air Ambulance Charity on Feb. 7, Prince William referenced his father's cancer diagnosis and wife's recent hospitalization.
"I'd like to take this opportunity to say thank you, also, for the kind messages of support for Catherine and for my father, especially in recent days. It means a great deal to us all," he said in a speech. "It's fair to say the past few weeks have had a rather 'medical' focus. So I thought I'd come to an air ambulance function to get away from it all!"
