Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, hasn't announced who his running mate will be in the upcoming election, but we know that it won't be Ron DeSantis. Once fierce supporters of each other, the two men's relationship turned sour after the Florida governor threw his hat into the ring for the 2024 election — which Trump felt was a huge violation. The former POTUS soon began calling his former friend "Ron DeSanctimonious."
When Ron eventually dropped out of the race, he endorsed Trump. Still, in a recent call with his backers, Ron said he wasn't interested in being vice president because the man at the top of the ticket has "too much baggage." Needless to say, that comment upset a litany of folks in Trumpland.

According to The New York Times, Ron DeSantis poured cold water on rumors he might serve as Donald Trump's running mate.
"People were mentioning me — like, I am not — I am not doing that," he reportedly said, adding that he doesn't fit Trump's "criteria" for who he wants as a vice president.
"I have heard that they're looking more in identity politics," Ron explained. "I think that's a mistake. I think you should just focus on who the best person for the job would be."
Ron claimed Trump is looking for a cabinet of "yes men."

Ron DeSantis later railed on media coverage — specifically conservative outlets — and the treatment of Donald Trump versus everyone else in the 2024 election.
"If it was really just eight, 10 Republicans who had never obviously been president, unlike Trump, I think we would have run away with it," Ron said.
He added of conservative media outlets, "Their business model just doesn't work if they offer any criticism of Trump. He said at some point he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and not lose a vote. Well, I think he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue, and the conservative media wouldn't even report on it."
Trump, according to Ron, continues to garner "support out of sympathy."

Ron DeSantis made the disparaging comments about Donald Trump after the former POTUS said in a Fox News interview that he's considering the Florida governor for the VP role.
Also on the short list? Failed 2024 presidential hopefuls Vivek Ramaswamy and Tim Scott, plus South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem and Florida Representative Byron Donalds.

Donald Trump senior advisor Chris LaCivita lashed out at Ron DeSantis over his comments.
"Chicken fingers and pudding cups is what you will be remembered for, you sad little man," he said, referring to the time Ron was seen eating pudding with his fingers and the time the governor said he and his family got into a disagreement over the best fried chicken.
