On April 8, a total solar eclipse crossed North America, giving some 44 million people across 13 states a view of "totality" when the sky went dark as the moon blocked the sun. Countless more Americans witnessed partial versions of the eclipse. While entertainers like Reese Witherspoon hopped on Instagram to show off their eclipse-ready garb, political figures including President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump — and even NASA's official X account for the moon — also marked the rare cosmic event on social media.

He also teased President Joe Biden for his eclipse post in the monologue, joking, "President Grandpa put up a message warning us not to look up today."
After playing a clip of Biden wearing protective glasses while saying, "Folks, enjoy the eclipse, but play it safe, don't be silly," the late-night host laughed. "'That's right, don't be silly. There's no time for malarcky and we won't tolerate it,'" Kimmel quipped.
