This year's Met Gala lived up to its reputation as fashion's biggest night as stars ascended the steps of New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The 2024 Costume Institute benefit celebrated the opening of the new exhibit "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" and featured the dress code "The Garden of Time," which was inspired by J.G. Ballard's 1962 short story of the same name, as revealed by Vogue editor Anna Wintour.
Join us as we take a look at our 14 best and worst looks from the 2024 event on May 6 — and examine them from every angle — beginning with this beautifully interpreted style hit…
Nicole Kidman arrived on husband Keith Urban's arm wearing a black-and-white Balenciaga gown that the fashion house recreated from a 1950s design inspired by flamenco dancers, The Cut reported.
"I asked [Balenciaga Creative Director] Demna if he was willing to reinterpret it. So he reinterpreted it in the vein of the sleeping beauties and the gowns, bringing them back to life," Nicole told Vogue red carpet reporter La La Anthony. "So I consider this to be a 'sleeping beauty' brought back to life. It's an honor to be able to bring it back to life."

Demi Moore surprised and delighted us with her custom Harris Reed look – a black velvet dress that the designer told The Cut was inspired by a rare Cartier necklace.

Lizzo's corseted ensemble by Victor Weinsanto – which took between 600 and 700 hours to complete, the designer told The Hollywood Reporter – was incredible to behold. But the headpiece proved to be a step too far, landing this look on the miss list.

Makeup artist Alexx Mayo told The Hollywood Reporter that "Harmony within nature was the biggest inspiration" for Lizzo's 2024 Met Gala look when it came to hair, makeup and nails.
"I wanted the idea of florals and gardens, but not to be so literal. The gown features these sprays of dried flowers, so I wanted to play with the beauty of a rose through its lifecycle, using different tones and just mixing from my palettes to reflect the rosebud to a rose in full bloom to the point when it withers and dies, but it's still beautiful," Alexx added.

One of the – if not the – best dressed women at the 2024 Met Gala wasn't a celebrity.
