Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes and more NFL starters on the Kansas City Chiefs sat out the final NFL game of the season during week 18 in an effort to avoid being injured as they head into the playoffs.
For Travis, that meant he failed to hit the 1,000-yard receiver mark for what would have been his eighth straight season — he was just 16 yards short — ending a streak for the record books: No tight end in the history of the NFL has ever had more than four 1,000-yard seasons, except Travis, who has seven — in a row.
Join us as we take a look at the best photos of Travis and Pat out of uniform and on the sidelines cheering on their teammates during this week 18 NFL game that saw the Chiefs beat the Chargers 13-12 on Jan. 7, 2024…

Travis Kelce #87 — who sat out the last game of the regular season in order to stay healthy and uninjured ahead of the playoffs when his team will really need him — Charles Omenihu #90, Clyde Edwards-Helaire #25, Isiah Pacheco #10 and Justin Reid #20 were among the Kansas City Chiefs players who celebrated Chris Jones #95 after he sacked the San Diego Chargers' quarterback during their game at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on Jan. 7, 2024.
The move got Chris to 10.5 sacks for the season, a milestone that triggered a $1.25 million bonus for the defensive tackle.
At a post-game press conference, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was asked why Travis didn't play and confirmed it was the tight end's decision.
"He is a humble, humble guy," Andy said. "It's different [with Travis] because of the financial part of it with Chris. [Travis] didn't want to be selfish or come across as selfish. All the players want him to play, but he just goes, 'You know what? I don't like the way it feels.' He's not into that. He chose not to play, and I completely understand it. But that's him. Most guys would have gone out and probably done it, but he said, 'I've got a lot of records on this one here; I'm not going to do it this way.'"
