There's cold and then there's COLD.
With the temperature a bone-cracking -4 degrees Fahrenheit at kickoff — and a wind chill of nearly -30 degrees — the Kansas City Chiefs faced the Miami Dolphins in the teams' first playoff game of 2024 on Jan. 13. Those temps shattered the record for the coldest NFL game ever played in Arrowhead Stadium history, breaking the 1 degree record set 40 years earlier in 1983, ABC News reported. According to the announcers on Peacock, where the game was streamed, it was the fourth coldest game in NFL history.
it was so cold, in fact, that icicles formed in Chiefs head coach Andy Reid's trademark mustache and a large piece of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes' helmet flew off after being cracked during a tackle!
The game broke viewing records, too, averaging 23 million viewers on Peacock, local NBC affiliates in the teams' home markets and on the NFL+ mobile app, according to Nielsen, The Hollywood Reporter reported. Additionally, NBC Sports revealed the game was the most streamed live event in American history — and it accounted for 30% of Internet traffic while it streamed.
Join us as we take a look at the best photos of tight end Travis Kelce, Patrick, Andy and more from the playoff game — which saw the Chiefs beat the Dolphins 26-7 — starting with this pic…

"Extreme conditions like those are bound to test the limits of even the highest-performing products," Certor Sports, which makes the VICIS ZERO2 helmet Pat was wearing, said in a statement.
Pat addressed the shattered helmet — a first first him, he shared — during a Chiefs press conference on Jan. 18. "They're testing it right now," he said, "but I'm adamant on getting the helmet after. It's something that's cool, I'll be able to keep for a long time. Like they said, it did its job. I was perfectly fine after."
