Fans and viewers alike were on the edge of their seats for all four quarters as the Kansas City Chiefs competed against the Buffalo Bills in a nail-biter of a playoff game on Jan. 21, 2024, that ended in a 27-24 win for the Chiefs — and a new record for Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
On a three-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter, they set the record for most touchdowns for a duo in NFL postseason history with 16 — taking the title from former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and tight end Rob Gronkowski. Brady reacted to the news with massive support. "BEASTS. When you one up Gronk you're doing something right," he wrote on X.
The game also broke viewership records with an average of more than 50 million viewers — with a peak of more than 56 million at one point — to become the most-watched divisional playoff game in NFL history and the first one to top 50 million. It was also the most watched program on American TV since the 2023 Super Bowl.
The win means the Chiefs — the defending Super Bowl champions — are advancing to their sixth straight AFC championship game: They'll next play the Baltimore Ravens for the AFC title.
