Eight law enforcement officers were shot — four fatally — while serving a warrant to a convicted felon inside his home in Charlotte, North Carolina, on April 29.
According to authorities, officers were met with gunfire while serving Terry Clark Hughes Jr., 39, with a warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Twelve officers fired their service weapons — and more than 100 rounds were exchanged — during the daytime incident, which ended when police shot and killed the suspect on his front yard. Three U.S. Marshals Service officers and a member of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department also died in the shootout.
Authorities later found an AR-15 rifle and a handgun while searching the bullet-riddled property.
