Words have consequences?
Meghan McCain believes that a comment made on a December 2023 episode of "The View" was a swipe at her, and she thinks it could be libelous. Although her name was never used on the air, Meghan is adamant that the dig was directed at her and she's considering legal action.
Meghan, the daughter of the late U.S Senator John McCain, has had a contentious relationship with "The View" — which she used to co-host — for many years, but she thinks Ana Navarro's comment went too far.

On Dec. 14, the women of "The View" were discussing President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden, who has long been accused of using his father's name to benefit himself in business dealings. Ana Navarro, a former Republican, came to Hunter's defense.
"Joe Biden's crime is being Hunter Biden's father," Ana said. "Look, did Hunter Biden influence peddle on his last name? Yes, he did. So did half of Washington — people sitting at this table did it."
The rest of the women on the panel — Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines and Alyssa Farah Griffin — looked around and wondered who she was talking about. Ana then said she wasn't referring to anyone "currently" on "The View."
Nearly everyone surmised that she was speaking about Meghan McCain.

After hearing about Ana Navarro's comment, Meghan McCain took to X to slam the show for the shade.
"I don't understand why my former colleagues @TheView @ABC bring me up and slander me on an almost weekly basis. It has been years — move on, I have," she wrote. "I have never been accused of a crime in my life and am a patriotic American — I would never and have never 'influenced peddled' in my life, let alone with foreign adversaries. Not all politicians' children are the same — and I am no Hunter Biden."
Meghan then said Ana's words might play out in the legal world.
"All accusations are absurd, defamatory and slanderous," she penned. "I will be consulting my lawyers regarding what was libeled against me on The View this morning."

An angry Meghan McCain also posted a follow-up to her fiery X post.
"@TheView is an @ABC News program. I do not take it lightly when any news program suggests I engage in criminal behavior, especially as a former employee of ABC News," she wrote.

While it seems likely that Meghan McCain was the target of Ana Navarro's comment, she's not the only politician's daughter who's been a part of the panel on "The View."
Abby Huntsman, the daughter of former Utah Governor and former U.S. Ambassador Jon Huntsman Jr. was on the ABC show from 2018 to 2020.

Meghan McCain joined "The View" in 2017 and remained there for four years. During her time on the talk show, she often feuded with her fellow panelists, specifically Joy Behar. She later accused the show of having a "toxic work environment."
"My take on the problems of The View are that it's a show with a lot of demons that started in the beginning, and none of those demons have been exorcized," she told Variety.
