Celine Dion was a stunning bride when she wed her manager, Rene Angelil, nearly 30 years ago in 1994 at Canada's Notre-Dame Basilica of Montréal in a televised ceremony. She donned a white satin wedding gown by Mirella and Steve Gentile and topped her look with a veil that flowed from an enormous headpiece crafted from more than 2,000 Swarovski crystals.
The widowed music star shared a new story about her wedding day with her fans in a Vogue "Life in Looks" video released in April 2024.
"This big piece is like, glued to my head. It has been sewn [to my head]. So no problem, I can manage the weight, and when you're so happy, there's no weight, there's no problem, there's no pain," she recalled.
"We rehearsed one time with the dress and the big veil and all that … in a big ballroom [with] beautiful wooden floors. I practiced and everything was smooth and everything's fine," Celine continued. "But when I had to walk [in] the cathedral, there's no wooden floor. It's carpet. I had an immediate facelift," she explained, leaning forward, implying the headpiece pulled her skin back.
She grew worried. "It's like, 'Am I going to make it? Am I going to make it to my future husband?'" she recalled before breaking into song, playfully singing, "But like I said, 'Oh, I'm gonna run to you.' [And] I did."
Everything was perfect for the rest of the night — until she removed the headpiece…

Celine Dion and Rene Angelil had a glorious wedding and reception in December 1994. Then something bad happened.
"When we removed the tiara, I had a cut [on my head] because the pressure was too much," Celine told Vogue for the magazine's "Life in Looks" video series in April 2024.
"The next day, I wake up, I look at myself in the mirror — I have [a wound] the size of an egg in the middle of my forehead… It's so huge that it made my eyes [cross]," she explained. The injury was so bad, she had to see a doctor that same day. The music star then had to take a course of antibiotics for three weeks.
But she has no regrets about her wedding day…

"The dress couldn't have been big enough. I could've had three times the size [of that headpiece] on my head. I could've had six different dresses that night because he was, and he still [is], such a wonderful human being," Celine Dion gushed in an April 2024 Vogue "Life in Looks" video, speaking of late husband Rene, who died from cancer in 2016, as she looked at a photo of them on their wedding day in 1994. "He brought [out] the best in me. He really did."

"I still feel his presence so much," Celine Dion told Vogue in a "Life in Looks" video posted in April 2024 of her late husband, who died in 2016 at 73 following a cancer battle. She and Rene had been married for more than two decades when she lost him.
Looking at her wedding photos, she said, "This is a moment that will be with me for the rest of my life."
