Mike Johnson's stint as Speaker of the House might be short-lived. For weeks, several Republicans have entertained the idea of ousting the Louisiana Congressman from his chair, and now the rumblings are getting louder: More lawmakers have urged the speaker to resign.
"I am not resigning and it is in my view an absurd notion that someone would bring a vacate motion when we are simply here trying to do our jobs," Johnson responded on April 16. "It is not helpful to the cause. It is not helpful to the country. It does not help the House Republicans advance their agenda."

"I guess their reasoning is they want Russia to win so badly that they want to oust the speaker over it. I mean, that's a strange position to take… I think they want to be in the minority too. I think that's an obvious reality." –Rep. Dan Crenshaw

"Some of these folks have nobody to blame but themselves for why Speaker Johnson's hand in negotiations has been weakened. It's their actions that have done that. I look at this very simply: In October, the House was thrown into chaos by Matt Gaetz and seven useful idiots that teamed up with him within the Republican conference and 208 Democrats. At this moment, when you see what happened in the aftermath of vacating the chair, and Israel attacked a week later, to do that again would be detrimental to the country and global security." —Rep. Mike Lawler

"Speaker Johnson should be DEMANDING that Chuck Schumer hold the trial against Secretary Mayorkas. Instead, he's passing Joe Biden, Chuck Schumer, and the Democrats' wishlist. I'm grateful to @RepThomasMassie for cosponsoring my Motion to Vacate. We need a new Speaker!" Marjorie Taylor Green wrote on X.
She later added, "Johnson is the Deep State Speaker of the House funding the Democrats' agenda in an omnibus, blocking warrant requirements for FISA, this week ramming through billions for Ukraine, and now this after allowing Gallagher to leave his district without representation. Can't continue."

"I just told Mike Johnson in conference that I'm co-sponsoring the Motion to Vacate that was introduced by @RepMTG. He should pre-announce his resignation (as Boehner did), so we can pick a new Speaker without ever being without a GOP Speaker." —Rep. Thomas Massie

"Mike Johnson made this mess himself. There's no scenario where I personally in any scenario would ever vote to keep the speaker in office. I know that some Democrats may have different opinions, but that's absolutely not mine, so I will not be providing a vote. I think most progressives agree with that position. He has made this mess. He's one of the most extreme speakers we've ever had and in no way would I vote to keep him in the speakership" — Rep. Robert Garcia via MSNBC

"It's a very important, busy time for us to talk about democracy, not about their dysfunction." —Rep. Nancy Pelosi via MSNBC

"Instead of bickering amongst themselves and handing Democrats control of the House, Republicans should do their job and vote on the important issues facing our nation. Enough is enough. I support @SpeakerJohnson" —Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp

"Speaker Johnson is working to lead the most complicated House since the Civil War. Any Republican who moves to vacate the chair should be challenged as totally destructive. It took 15 ballots to elect Speaker McCarthy. It took three weeks to elect Speaker Johnson. He should serve until someone else proves they can get 218 votes. Any other path is [dangerously] destructive for the House GOP." —former Speaker Newt Gingrich

"The Republican-led house is being jammed with bad legislation by its OWN SPEAKER. @SpeakerJohnson what changed? Who's advising you?" —Rep. Scott Perry
_
"Momentum is building within your own party to oust you, @SpeakerJohnson. You have nothing left to lose. It's time to operate from strength. Bring up the Senate-passed national security package and let the House work its will." —Rep. Gerry Connolly

"@SpeakerJohnson makes tough decisions. That's what leaders do. Thank you for serving Louisiana, the House, and the American people." –Sen. Bill Cassidy

"The revolt against House Speaker Mike Johnson is picking up steam, as Johnson revealed plans to take several MASSIVE foreign spending bills to the floor this week. Tying foreign aid to protecting the borders at home – once a staple in Johnson's rhetoric – has been tossed aside." –former Rep. Ron Paul

"We don't like the chaos and the dysfunction. We've been down this road before. I provided a lion's share of those nomination speeches. I'm not itching to do that anymore. We want this place to work… We can't control the theatrics of Marjorie Taylor Greene and the House Republican Conference, but we stand willing to work with anyone who wants to deliver on [foreign aid]." —Rep. Pete Aguilar

"I think it's unlikely I would support vacating him. The big thing is: I want a vote on Ukraine." —Rep. Adam Smith
_
"Mike Johnson is probably in the toughest position of probably anybody in this country right now." —Rep. Austin Scott via CNN

"I think folks, people need to grow up. This is not good leadership. The Republican brand suffers because [of] the actions of a handful of people, and I see that they are wearing out their welcome on the House side. I just think that it's a waste of time." —Sen. Thom Tillis via CNN

"We don't need that. No way. We shouldn't go through that again." —Rep. Jim Jordan
_
"I think right now, I think the timing would be pretty bad to have a change in command. So I'm not really looking at that right now." —Rep. Eli Crane

"It would be a terrible, terrible idea to vacate Speaker Johnson from the speakership over what's coming in the next few days. It would be a very bad idea." —Rep. Derrick Van Orden
