The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced its 2024 nominees earlier this month and so far the reactions have been, uh, mixed, to say the least. Of the nominees who've even acknowledged the honor, some have expressed their gratitude for the recognition. Others? Not so much…
"F*** the Rock Hall. It's full of bumbaclarts."
That's how former Oasis singer Liam Gallagher reacted on X upon learning the beloved '90s-era Britpop band he fronted with brother Noel Gallagher had been nominated for the first time.
As Oasis fans — many of whom who have clamored for a reunion since the band's ugly split in 2009 — congratulated Liam and urged fellow Oasis-lovers to vote for them on social media, the prickly singer chimed in again.
"Don't waste your time. As much as it's appreciated, it's a load of bollox," he told one X user. "There's something fishy about those awards," he told another. "I don't need some w*** award from a geriatric in a cowboy hat."
Of course, Liam's resistance could be related to his infamously tumultuous relationship with his brother, Noel, who joined Oasis a few months after Liam in 1991. In the years that followed, the group became a massive success. But the brothers' shared affinity for excess became tabloid fodder, as did their drama-laden relationship. After years of very public, often petty and sometimes violent feuding, Noel quit the band in 2009 (and Liam promptly sued him for it).
True to character, Liam used the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nomination to take a potshot at Noel on X.
"The little fella loves hanging out with celebrities so he'd prob go [to the award ceremony]," Liam sniped, adding, "As for me, I'm washing my hair and having a pedicure and a manicure."
Liam's not the only nominee with less-than-warm words for the Rock Hall.

Like Oasis, Cher is on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ballot for the first time in 2024 — and like Liam Gallagher, she's said she wants nothing to do with the institution.
"You know what, I wouldn't be in it now if they gave me a million dollars," the music icon and Oscar winner said in December 2023 on "The Kelly Clarkson Show."
Cher, 77, has been eligible to be inducted for years, but has been routinely snubbed.
"I'm never going to change my mind," she told Kelly. "They can just go you-know-what themselves."
Elsewhere in the interview, she was asked about making history as the first female artist to have a No. 1 song on the Billboard charts every decade for seven decades in a row.
Reminded that the Rolling Stones have also had a No. 1 hit every decade for seven decades, Cher quipped, "It took four of them to be one of me."

Nominated for the first time as a solo performer, 2024 Rock Hall nominee Ozzy Osbourne gushed about the honor on Instagram. But his positivity marked a drastic departure from what The Prince of Darkness said about Black Sabbath's 1999 nomination, which he called "meaningless," among other things.
"I'm deeply honored to receive this news from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame," Ozzy, 75, wrote on X. "To be one of the few musicians who's being considered for a second entry, now as a solo artist, is something I could never have imagined. After 44 years as a solo artist the fact that I can continue to record music and receive this recognition is something I am incredibly proud of."
Ozzy's reaction was quite different back in 1999, when he was nominated with Black Sabbath for the third year in a row.
"Just take our name off the list," he said in a statement at the time. "Save the ink. Forget about us. The nomination is meaningless because it's not voted on by the fans. It's voted on by the supposed elite of the industry and the media, who've never bought an album or concert ticket in their lives, so their vote is totally irrelevant to me."
Ozzy and his metal cohorts eventually accepted their induction into the Rock Hall in 2006 — after they were nominated eight times.

After years of perceived snubs, Foreigner has finally been nominated for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2024.
"I deeply appreciate the recognition from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame committee," founding member and lead guitarist Mick Jones, 68, wrote on Facebook on Feb. 10. "It is wonderful that Foreigner has maintained its presence all these years and brought the music to our fans. Getting this news today is an incredible endorsement of what we have achieved over time. I know I speak for my fellow Foreigner nominees, Lou, Rick, Al, Dennis, and the families of Ed Gagliardi and Ian McDonald."
Asked why he thinks they were previously snubbed for the honor, bassist Jeff Pilson said in a 2021 interview he thought it boiled down to the number of voters who are also music critics.
Speaking to MisplacedStraws.com, Jeff mused, "You always have to see where critics are coming from, and to them, when something sells a lot of records, in most cases, they will view that as having been because of some kind of compromise made by the artist. And I just don't feel like Foreigner did that. I feel like we made honest music that's just really good that people happen to like," he continued.
"So, to answer your question, I think that they just look down on the band, and that's okay — they're critics; that's what they do."
