Wonderwall.com is taking a look back at all the celeb couples who called it quits in 2021 — or whose splits came to light in 2021 — starting with this duo… On Jan. 5, 2022, Us Weekly broke the news that Victoria's Secret model Chanel Iman and NFL star Sterling Shepard are divorcing — and TMZ confirmed he filed back on June 7, 2021. The exes, who tied the knot in 2018 and later welcomed two daughters, are asking for joint legal custody of their girls. TMZ further reported that he's moved out of their New Jersey home but will continue to pay for Chanel's monthly living expenses. Both have also agreed that any romantic third parties won't spend the night when one of them has the kids.

On Jan. 18, People magazine broke the news that Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas amicably called it quits after about a year of coupledom. The 32-year-old actress reportedly dumped the 48-year-old Oscar winner over her desire to travel and eventually have children of her own. According to multiple sources, Ben — who's raising his three children with ex-wife Jennifer Garner in Los Angeles — isn't interested in living elsewhere or adding to his brood. A Page Six source said there's a possibility the "Deep Water" co-stars "could get back together" because they are still "in love" and "people who know them believe [the breakup is] temporary."

On April 15, after weeks of trying to work through problems in their four-year relationship, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez confirmed they'd split after a two-year engagement. "We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another's children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have is to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support," they said in a statement ro People magazine. The news comes a month after Page Six reported they'd quietly split in the wake of his cheating scandal involving "Southern Charm" star Madison LeCroy — after which J.Lo and A-Rod told People and TMZ that they were still together but admitted, "We are working through some things." Ultimately, their efforts over the next few weeks weren't successful.

On Oct. 28 — hours after Zayn Malik denied a TMZ report alleging he "struck" girlfriend Gigi Hadid's mother, Yolanda Hadid, and one day before it was revealed that he'd just pleaded no contest to multiple charges of harassment against Gigi and Yolanda stemming from a late-September incident — multiple sources confirmed to People magazine that the former One Direction singer and the supermodel had split. "They are not together right now. They are both good parents though," a Hadid family friend told People. "They co-parent [daughter Kai]. Yolanda is of course very protective of Gigi. She wants the best for her daughter and grandchild." The model's rep told the magazine in a statement that "Gigi is solely focused on the best for Khai" and "asks for privacy during this time." TMZ reported later in the day that Zayn and Gigi actually split more than a month earlier. The pair had been a couple on and off since late 2015 and most recently reunited in late 2019 before welcoming their daughter in 2020.

On Sept. 3, People magazine published a joint statement from Kaley Cuoco and her second husband, Karl Cook, announcing that they're going their separate ways after three years of marriage. "Despite a deep love and respect for one another, we have realized that our current paths have taken us in opposite directions," they said. "We have both shared so much of our journey publicly so while we would prefer to keep this aspect of our personal life private, we wanted to be forthcoming in our truth together. There is no anger or animosity, quite the contrary. We have made this decision together through an immense amount of respect and consideration for one another and request that you do the same in understanding that we will not be sharing any additional details or commenting further." It was later confirmed that Kaley filed divorce papers the same day. The duo started dating in 2016, got engaged in 2017 and tied the knot in 2018. But they didn't live together full-time for the first two years of their marriage, and in April 2020, the "Big Bang Theory" alum said that she and the professional equestrian might not have finally moved in together if it hadn't been for the coronavirus pandemic. "We've been married for a year and a half, been together for almost four years. This quarantine has forced us to actually move in together," she said. "It's been great for our relationship. And we like each other, we realized, which is even better!" Later that month, she joked that they were only living together while stay-at-home orders were in place. "He's out [when it's over]. This is just for the quarantine. I don't want to give the wrong impression here. This is just for right now," Kaley deadpanned. Apparently there was more truth in her words than she knew at the time! People later reported that the couple appeared to be solid just a few months before Kaley filed. "In the beginning of the summer, Kaley seemed very happy with Karl. They were affectionate and seemed great," a source told the magazine. "The split seems very sudden. It's pretty shocking."

Rosario Dawson and New Jersey Senator Cory Booker called it quits after three years together, a source told Marie Claire on Dec. 27. In fact, the duo supposedly quietly split over the summer — but they've remained friends. "The distance made it difficult," says the source, referring to Cory's gig in Washington, D.C., and Rosario's job as an actress who often films in Los Angeles. Rosario, a staunch activist, has been filming "Clerks III" and "Go Big Show" of late. The couple was first linked in January 2019 after they attended a Broadway show together, but it seemed that they had been dating prior to the New York City outing. The romance seemed serious, as Rosario sold her California home earlier in 2021 to live with the politician in New Jersey. Cory last appeared on Rosario's social media pages in May.

On Dec. 24, Page Six reported that Meghan King's whirlwind romance with President Joe Biden's nephew, Cuffe Biden Owens, had come to an end just two months after they tied the knot following a courtship of just three weeks. According to a source, the former "The Real Housewives of Orange County" star "has told friends they broke up." On Dec. 27, the reality TV alum said she was "rattled" over the split. "This situation is profoundly devastating," she wrote on her Instagram Story. "This is obviously not what I imagined when I made my vows — and I'm shocked and saddened by the way things turned out."

On Nov. 17, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello took to their Instagram Stories to share matching statements announcing that they recently parted ways after more than two years of coupledom. "Hey guys, we've decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever. Jason soon confirmed the news on Instagram, writing, "While Chrishell and I are no long together, we remain best friends and we will always love and support one another. Jason Oppenheim's twin brother and The Oppenheim Group co-founder Brett Oppenheim revealed on his Instagram Story on Dec. 21 that he and his girlfriend Tina Louise are no longer an item. On Dec. 11, the Mirror reported that, according to multiple sources, Amber Heard and her girlfriend of two years, Bianca Butti, recently called it quits after distance took its toll. "Amber is a very busy woman being a new mother and working flat out in the U.K. on her latest film, while Bianca is also tied up with various projects in the U.S.," said a source. "With not being in the same country for months at a time and dealing with a new baby, it leaves very little time for romance, and things look like they have fizzled out between them." It's over for comedian Pete Davidson and actress Phoebe Dynevor, The Sun reported on Aug. 15. According to the British tabloid, the "Saturday Night Live" cast member and the "Bridgerton" star — who were first romantically linked in March — split after five months of dating because of distance. "The distance has made it completely unworkable," a source told The Sun of why Pete, who's based in New York City, and Phoebe, who's been shooting season 2 of her hit Netflix show in England, felt they had to call it quits. "They had fun and will remain close, but unless something drastic changes, their relationship won't recover."

"Amelia was the one who ended things," an insider told Us. "We are semi-separated but still love each other, see each other frequently and are on great terms," Elon told the New York Post's gossip column. "It's mostly that my work at SpaceX and Tesla requires me to be primarily in Texas or traveling overseas and her work is primarily in LA. "Chase and Madelyn are not together anymore," a source told the New York Post's gossip column. "It's no secret among those who know them that they broke up." According to a second source, "things got rocky between Chase and Madelyn in September, and they were openly talking to friends about the breakup by October."

After years of trying to make their marriage work following a 2016 cheating scandal, Jana Kramer announced on April 21 that she and Mike Caussin were over. Multiple outlets reported that she filed for divorce after nearly six years of marriage, and within days, Jana's divorce petition was made public: The "One Tree Hill" alum cited "inappropriate marital conduct, irreconcilable differences and adultery" as the reasons for their split and April 20 as their separation date. According to a People magazine source, the former professional football player "cheated and broke her trust again." Said the insider, "After fighting for the marriage for so long, she's come to terms with the realization that his patterns were never going to change." According to TMZ, "Animal Kingdom" actress Leila George — the daughter of actors Vincent D'Onofrio and Greta Scacchi — filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Oct. 15 after just 14 months of marriage. Sean and Leila — who have nearly 32 years between them — had been a couple since 2016 and married in July 2020. (Sean, by the way, is only a year younger than Leila's father.)

Seven months after getting engaged, it's over for "Vanderpump Rules" stars James Kennedy and Raquel Leviss after five years as a couple. On Dec. 5, a source told People magazine that the pair ended things — Raquel also returned her ring — while filming the season 9 reunion special on Dec. 3. Later on Dec. 5, the duo announced their split on Instagram in identical posts accompanied by this selfie. "After these 5 wonderful years we had together, we decided we have two different goals and made the decision to call off the engagement. "Hamilton" stars Anthony Ramos and Jasmine Cephas Jones have split after six years together and nearly three years after getting engaged, a source confirmed to E! News on Nov. 30. A second source told the outlets that the pair's engagement ended before they broke up. The "In the Heights" actor and the Emmy-winning actress met during rehearsals for the original off-Broadway production of "Hamilton" and started dating in 2015. The split news comes just two days after a viral TikTok alleged that Anthony was "all over" another woman at a strip club in Los Angeles sometime earlier in November.

Just one week after welcoming their first child, son Prince Lyric, singer Aaron Carter and fiancée Melanie Martin broke up (again). Aaron took to Twitter on Nov. 30 to tell fans that "there has been a very big lie and my sister communicating w my ex fiancé ruined everything considering she knew what [my twin sister, Angel] tried to do to me in court thanks angel you ruined my family. God bless." Aaron went on and on, adding, "I have the most conniving deceiving family and Melanie has been lying to me the whole time communicating with my twin sister and the family members who tried to put me in prison and who tried to get a conservatorship on me in court." Aaron — whose family drama has made headlines for years — called himself a "single dad" and claimed that Melanie was leaving and taking their newborn to Las Vegas. But days later, the new parents reconciled. "Relationships aren't easy," Aaron tweeted in part, while Melanie took to her Instagram Story to apologize for communicating with Aaron's twin behind his back. "My intentions in contacting his sister Angel were not of ill intent. I wanted to try to resolve the situation so we could all be a family. I now realize that wasn't my place and I never should've done that," she shared.
In December the outlet The Blast revealed that Meagan Good's husband of nearly a decade, DeVon Franklin, filed for divorce in Los Angeles on Dec. 20. The following day, the pair released a statement confirming the breakup news: "After much prayer and consideration, we have decided to go into our futures separately but forever connected. We celebrate almost a decade of marriage together and a love that is eternal. There's no one at fault, we believe this is the next best chapter in the evolution of our love. We are incredibly grateful for the life-changing years we've spent together as husband and wife. We are also extremely thankful to God for the testimony being created inside us both and for blessing our lives with each other," they said. Their divorce documents listed "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split and noted that they officially separated in August.
After a year of dating, former "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" star Joe Giudice and Italian girlfriend Daniela Fittipaldi, a lawyer and food blogger, have broken up. "I have a lot going on right now and don't have time for a relationship," Joe told People magazine in a statement, explaining that he's focusing his attention on working on an "appeal to get back to the U.S." to see his four daughters with ex-wife Teresa Giudice following his deportation to his native Italy in the wake of a federal prison sentence for fraud crimes. "I just honestly don't have the time or headspace for a relationship right now," he added. "It was great while it lasted with Daniela and we will see what the future will bring. I'm just more concentrated on everything else right now."
After 10 years of marriage, it's over for Valerie Bertinelli and husband Tom Vitale, a financial planner and CEO of e-commerce company Veebow. TMZ reported that on Nov. 24, the "One Day at a Time" and "Hot in Cleveland" actress filed for legal separation in Los Angeles, citing "irreconcilable differences." Court papers reveal the former couple have a prenup, and that the Daytime Emmy-winning cooking show host — who was previously wed to rocker Eddie Van Halen — has asked a judge to deny both of them spousal support.
Another one bites the dust. "The Bachelorette" star Tayshia Adams and Zac Clark, who proposed at the end of season 16, which aired in late 2020, have ended their engagement. "Tayshia Adams and Zac Clark are no longer a couple," a rep for Tayshia told People magazine and Page Six on Nov. 22. A source further told Page Six that the pair "both felt the pressure of navigating a public relationship, but in different ways. It really started to wear on them each as individuals. They started drifting apart in recent months and ultimately came to realize that they don't work as a couple."
During an Oct. 28 interview with Us Weekly, Jaime King revealed that she's "not dating" anyone at the moment, signaling that her relationship of about a year with activist-entrepreneur Sennett Devermont has ended. The following day, Page Six reported that, according to a source, the couple split at the "beginning of fall" after their relationship had "run its course." Explained the source, "They met [while in lockdown during] COVID and were together through that, and then she had to work. She filmed a movie and he was there for that, but then, in the summer, she filmed two movies away and he didn't go. She was away from him for three months, and then it just kind of wasn't there anymore."
On the Oct. 28 episode of "Watch What Happens Live," Padma Lakshmi revealed that she's currently "single." It was the first indication that her relationship with poet Terrance Hayes had come to an end. The pair were first linked in June.
Liv Tyler and Dave Gardner have amicably ended their engagement and their romance after seven years and two kids together, The Sun reported on Nov. 2, adding that the "Lord of the Rings" actress has moved back to Los Angeles while Dave — David Beckham's best friend, who handles the soccer team owner's commercial deals — remains in London. "Dave and Liv spent all of the first lockdown together and are a great team as parents. But unfortunately, they've grown apart and increasingly they've been living separate lives. Both wanted to focus on their careers — her acting and producing, and Dave running his business and working on David's Inter Miami football project," a source told The Sun. "They officially parted ways back in March but they've kept it quiet so as to minimise the fuss, and ensure their kids were OK. They've now come out the other side and are the best of pals. They even went on holiday together this summer."
"Sister Wives" stars Kody Brown and Christine Brown announced their split on Nov. 2. Christine joined Kody's plural marriage back in 1994, coming in as his third wife in a spiritual marriage. (Kody was only legally married to first wife Meri, whom he divorced to legally marry fourth wife, Robyn, to provide health insurance to her kids.) Christine shared the news on Instagram, noting that she was the one who decided to walk away. "After more than 25 years together, Kody and I have grown apart and I have made the difficult decision to leave," she began her post, which later asked for "grace and kindness" as they move forward. The couple shares six children together.
In October, speculation emerged claiming that "Vanderpump Rules" star Lala Kent had dumped producer Randall Emmett — with whom she welcomed daughter Ocean earlier in the year — amid rumors he was unfaithful. Though a source told E! News in late October that Randall was "trying to win her back over" and "doing anything to make her happy," apparently it wasn't enough: On Oct. 30, TMZ reported that the split was a done deal, writing that "the engagement has been called off on both sides," that Lala moved out and that "there's no hope of reconciliation."
Country music singer Ty Herndon (right) and boyfriend Matt Collum have split after more than a decade as a couple, Ty announced on Instagram on Oct. 27. "After 11 beautiful years together, I want to let you know that Matt and I have decided to go our separate ways as life partners. However, we are committed to remaining lifelong friends, and I am confident that will be the case," Ty wrote alongside a photo of himself with his former love. "We appreciate the support Nashville and so many of you have given us over the years and look forward to continuing a close relationship with each other and all of you." Added the "What Mattered Most" singer, who publicly came out as a gay man in 2014, "The Bible tells us that for everything there is a season. We both are looking forward to this next season of our lives with hope, optimism, and love."
We first met Michael Jessen, 46, and Juliana Custodio, 23, back in 2019 on season 7 of "90 Day Fiancé" when the show followed the Brazilian beauty's move to the States to start a life with the entrepreneur and his two children from a previous marriage. But on Oct. 12 — what would have been their second wedding anniversary — the duo took to Instagram to announce their split. Their posts became a back and forth: Michael originally claimed their marriage was a "COVID-19 casualty" that left him "completely drained." Juliana, however, wrote, "You pointed [to] COVID-19 as one of the reasons we are not longer together, but we all know that there are more [reasons] than that." She shared that they'd gone through a "hard time financially" and noted her feelings on the matter: "I wasn't part of the family anymore, I was feeling like a maid," she said. Actress Taryn Manning's engagement to musician Anne Cline is over after just a few months. Anne popped the question in the middle of one of her concerts in Florida in June, and Taryn accepted. Us Weekly reported on Oct. 3 that, according to a source, "Taryn only said 'yes' because her ex, Anne, put her on the spot." The source said that the "Orange Is the New Black" and "Karen" actress soon realized that the romance "just was not the right relationship for her" and quietly ended things in late August or early September and has already started dating again. "She now has moved on and is happy in a new relationship," the source said.
"The Challenge: War of the Worlds" co-stars Johnny "Bananas" Devenanzio and Morgan Willett have broken up after two years of dating, People magazine reported on Sept. 28. Morgan shared a cryptic statement with People magazine confirming their split. "I've always tried my best to be an open book and after seeing everything circulate over the internet, I felt like I should let you all know that Johnny and I are no longer together," she said. "While I feel heartbroken, I'm thankful to know the truth. Johnny is someone I loved & respected very much and so I will be taking some time to heal and process it all." She went on to thank "everyone for the support," adding, "and when I'm ready to share more, I will."

"After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage. Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives," they wrote. "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" newbie Falynn Guobadia announced on her Instagram Story on April 22 that she and her husband, Simon, are splitting. "After two years of marriage and five years of friendship, Simon and I have made the difficult decision to go our separate ways," she wrote. On March 26, E! News reported that "Riverdale" star Camila Mendes and her boyfriend of about a year, photographer Grayson Vaughn, quietly broke up a month earlier. "There was no drama at all, and they are still friends. Their relationship just ran its course," said a source, adding that the actress "has been shooting in Canada" and because "travel has been banned" amid the coronavirus pandemic, it was difficult for the pair to spend time together.
A year after the Netflix documentary "Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness" introduced the world to Joseph Maldonado-Passage — better known as Joe Exotic — the former big cat zookeeper's fourth husband, Dillon Passage, took to Instagram to tell fans they were ending their marriage. Dillon announced the news on March 26, writing that more than three years after their 2017 wedding, "Joe and I are seeking a divorce. Meanwhile, an anonymous source told Deux Moi, an Instagram account dedicated to celebrity gossip, that Bryce and model Josie Canseco have been "hooking up in front of everyone at parties for the last month" and that Bryce "wants the Internet to think he's still on good terms with Addison" for clout.
TMZ reported that comedian Gary Owen's wife of nearly two decades, Kenya Duke, filed for divorce in Los Angeles on March 19. She later implied on Instagram that the stand-up star and "Think Like a Man" actor cheated with a woman from Dallas who's friends with reality TV star Claudia Jordan — who's been friends with Gary for years. "[You] should know better — married not separated — married," Kenya captioned a since-deleted Instagram post. She also addressed her estranged husband directly, writing, "All the energy you spent lying, acting and creating a fake narrative for these [women] that want to be me, you could have done it with a veggie burger and a glass of fake filtered water." Claudia then hopped online to set the record straight, claiming in a video (watch a recording here) that she doesn't have a friend from Dallas and is not aware of any alleged cheating involving Gary.
After weeks of speculation, rapper Saweetie on March 19 confirmed that she and Migos rapper Quavo were over after more than two years of dating. "I'm single. I've endured too much betrayal and hurt behind the scenes for a false narrative to be circulating that degrades my character. Presents don't band aid scars and the love isn't real when the intimacy is given to other women," she tweeted. Quavo didn't like her infidelity shade and soon took to social media to respond. "I know you want to make this into a show so I'll play my part just this one time. I don't normally put my business out there, especially my personal life. I feel the need to address this so there are no false narratives," he tweeted. "I had love for you and disappointed you did all that. You are not the woman I thought you were. I wish you nothing but the best." Saweetie replied with a simple, "Take care."
On March 18, Tinsley Mortimer's fiancé of a little more than a year, Scott Kluth, released a statement to People magazine announcing that they ended their relationship and "have been living independently for the last few months." A source close to the former "The Real Housewives of New York City" star — who walked away from the Bravo show when she moved to Chicago to be with Scott after they got engaged in late 2019 — described her as "blindsided" by the breakup, which "was not mutual." Said the insider, "She's on the floor heartbroken and devastated. She left everything for him because she didn't think he'd ever call off the engagement. She trusted him that this time was going to be different." Almost exactly a year ago, Tinsley said that she and the Coupon Cabin founder — who've been off and on for years — were planning to wed in Japan before the coronavirus pandemic forced them to postpone their plans to tie the knot. According to a Page Six source, Scott "tortured" Tinsley "for years" and "used her celebrity to promote his coupon company." When asked for a response, Scott's rep accused Tinsley of "mischaracterizing the circumstances of their breakup, which happened months ago." The back and forth only got messier from there.
On March 15, "The Bachelor" season 25 star Matt James revealed on the "After the Final Rose" special that he and his final pick — who had been revealed that same night — were no longer in a relationship. On Jan. 25, "The Vampire Diaries" actress Alice Evans claimed on Twitter that her "beloved husband/soulmate of 20 years," Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd, had "announced he is to leave his family, starting next week." Wrote the mother of two of her "sad news" in a since-deleted tweet, "Me and our young daughters are very confused and sad. We haven't been given a reason except that he 'no longer loves me.' I'm so sorry." She later claimed that she was being "gaslit and mentally tortured" and alleged that she'd experienced "six months of harassment: yes/no/maybe" — purportedly related to Ioan's indecisiveness over whether or not to leave the relationship — and added that she "cannot live anymore like this." The estranged couple then released a joint statement reading, "As you can imagine, this is an incredibly difficult time for our family and we remain committed to our children." Later, Ioan's father, Peter, told MailOnline that the family has been "aware" of the issues between the "Fantastic Four" actor and his wife. Other Daily Mail sources hypothesized "that there's probably another person involved." (They did not provide evidence to prove that suspicion.) One insider said he or she was "not at all surprised" by the drama between Ioan and Alice because he's a known flirt. On Jan. 28, The Sun reported that Ioan's mother, Margaret, insisted that cheating did not play a role in the breakup. A source told the British tabloid, "Ioan has just told his wife he's decided it isn't working and he wants to move on, but obviously, for her, there are a lot of questions over why. Within the [entertainment] industry, there are a lot of raised eyebrows about whether things might be to do with his time working away in Australia. Obviously his career has taken him all over the world recently, which has put strain on the family for a while now — but the timing of this has set a lot of tongues wagging." In early March, Ioan filed for divorce. News reported that "Selling Sunset" star Chrishell Stause and "Dancing With the Stars" pro Keo Motsepe had split "very recently" after less than three months of dating, according to a source close to Keo. An insider close to Chrishell told E! the pair "had a fun time together but in the end, decided it would be best if they part ways. They are still friendly and cordial. It wasn't a messy breakup, just wasn't the right fit or right timing." A source close to Keo told People magazine that Keo was "heartbroken. He enjoyed his time with Chrishell and was 100% in it. He's had a tough time with his mom's passing [in January], but he really wanted to make his relationship last." Hours later, Chrishell took to her Instagram Stories to weigh in on the reports, saying she "TRULY wanted to keep this drama free, but playing the victim and bringing your mom into it is a step too far for me." On Feb. 8, E! News confirmed speculation that Ashley Benson and G-Eazy called it quits after a little less than a year of coupledom. Elliot Page filed to divorce his wife of three years, dancer-choreographer Emma Portner, in New York City on Jan. 26. Us Weekly reported on Jan. 27 that "Summer House" star Lindsay Hubbard recently split from her boyfriend of about a year and a half, Stephen Traversie.
