The issue, viewers noted on social media, is that Mark — as a teenager — committed a hate crime against a Vietnamese man, pleading guilty to felony assault. Comments on Twitter were harsh, with journalist Bonnie Stiernberg tweeting, "I gotta say, having Mark Wahlberg, who literally went to jail as a teen for committing a hate crime against a Vietnamese man, present an award to the cast of Everything Everywhere All At Once was certainly a choice." Another commenter wrote, "Mark Wahlberg (who's committed multiple hate crimes including against Asian people) giving SAG ensemble prize to a predominantly Asian cast is genuinely such an embarrassing thing for Hollywood to do."

Brendan Fraser, supported by girlfriend Jeanne Moore in a black gown by Alexia Maria, relished his win for outstanding performance by a male actor in a leading role for his work in "The Whale" — in which he plays a 600-pound man. He notably beat "Elvis" star Austin Butler, among others, for the trophy. "If you just stay in there and put one foot in front of the other, you'll get to where you need to go," Brendan — who's experiencing a career resurgence — said during his acceptance speech, encouraging others.
