Oscars 2011 fashion flashback: 10 years ago

The Academy Awards are almost here — the Oscars will be handed out on April 25, 2021! In honor of Hollywood's biggest night, Wonderwall.com is hopping into a time machine to see what the red carpet looked like 10 years ago in 2011. First up? Jennifer Lawrence, who donned one of her best red carpet gowns to date at the 2011 Academy Awards — this vibrant red perfectly tailored Calvin Klein dress. That year, the Hollywood newcomer was nominated for best actress (for the first time) for her work in the film "Winter's Bone."

"Black Swan" star Mila Kunis was lovely in this gorgeous lilac Elie Saab confection. From the sweet lace details at the neckline and the lace striping down the skirt to the frock's fabulous color and glamorous train, she was one of the best dressed presenters of the night.

Red was a big color that night! Anne Hathaway — who co-hosted with James Franco that year — showed up in this strapless ruby red Valentino dress featuring gathered detailing down the fitted skirt and a diminutive train.

It was a slinky silver silhouette for Gwyneth Paltrow in 2011. The stylish star picked a shimmering Calvin Klein design with a unique sleeveless bodice and a narrow, plunging slit at the neckline. There was a matching thigh-high slit up the side and a beautiful brooch detail at the hip with various stones that added a pop of rainbow color. Believe it or not, she was a performer that night: Gwyneth sang "Coming Home" from her film "Country Strong" during the telecast. 

Another star rocking red? Sandra Bullock, who arrived in this strapless Vera Wang gown with a sweetheart neckline and a skirt complete with a dramatic train. The A-lister was on hand to present that night. 

Jennifer Hudson decided on a vibrant color to remember! The actress, who presented that night, wore a fiery orange Versace design that featured a halter-style neckline and a dramatic skirt that she accessorized with plenty of diamonds. 

Michelle Williams' slinky Chanel pick landed her on many best dressed lists that year. Her silver selection had short sleeves and a perfectly fitted silhouette with plenty of shimmer throughout. In 2011, Michelle was nominated for best actress for her work in the film "Blue Valentine." 

It was lacy purple Dolce&Gabbana for presenter Scarlett Johansson in 2011. The star arrived in this sleeveless number with a high neck, purple flowers throughout and a tiny train that followed her down the red carpet. 

Best actor nominee Javier Bardem rocked a three-piece suit — complete with skinny tie — while new wife Penelope Cruz, who'd given birth to their first child the previous month, wowed in a thin-strapped red L'Wren Scott gown covered in sequins. The actor scored a nomination for his work in "Biutiful" that year. 

Perhaps one of the best red carpet gowns of all time was worn to the 2011 Academy Awards — presenter Cate Blanchett's show-stopping pastel Givenchy dress. The intricately detailed couture piece featured pale pink and yellow embellishments, structured shoulders and a belt detail that instantly made it one of our favorite looks of all time — and one that still holds up a decade later. 

Mandy Moore looked marvelous in Monique Lhuillier at the Oscars that year. The singer-actress, who performed the song "I See the Light" from "Tangled" during the ceremony, donned a shimmering gown with sheer netting that gave the illusion of an off-the-shoulder neckline while sparkly embellishments along the fabric looked like shiny short sleeves. The sparkles gave way to a full tulle skirt, giving the actress a stunningly statuesque look. 

Also rocking a champagne and white gown with loads of embellishments? Presenter Halle Berry, who selected this strapless Marchesa confection with sparkly details throughout and a skirt that gave way to a ruffled tulle train. 

Sheer netting was trending in 2011. Best supporting actress Hailee Steinfeld also sported some, rocking a sleeveless Marchesa dress that from afar appeared to be strapless. The then-teen, who scored a nomination for her performance in "True Grit" that year, wore a midi-length frock that featured a full skirt and showed off her matching satin peep-toe pumps.

Yikes! Sharon Stone arrived at the 2011 Academy Awards in big hair and a feather-adorned one-shouldered Dior gown.

Celine Dion went with this ivory Armani Prive dress, which featured long sleeves and a plunging neckline, in 2011. When it came time to add jewelry, the music superstar opted for a diamond necklace with a big gemstone pendant. She performed the song "Smile" during the in memoriam segment that evening. 

Best actress winner Natalie Portman was pregnant at the Oscars in 2011! The star, who won for her work in "Black Swan," dressed up her baby bump in a beautiful purple beaded design by Rodarte featuring an off-the-shoulder neckline, an empire waist and a small slit up the center that showed off her strappy sandals. 

No fashion risks here! Presenter Kevin Spacey selected a classic tux and bow tie combination for Oscar night in 2011. 

Nicole Kidman's strapless Dior dress is one we quickly forgot. The star's white selection featured a peplum detail at the waist and an all-over gold design. The strangest part? The way the frock had a slit that showed off the fact that she paired it with bright red peep-toe heels. NIcole was up for best actress for her work in the film "Rabbit Hole" in 2011. 

In 2011, presenter Reese Witherspoon chose a black-and-white Armani gown that featured a white band at the strapless neckline and a simple yet sophisticated black floor-length silhouette.

Zachary Levi looked sharp in this tuxedo, which he paired with a white dress shirt and bow tie on Hollywood's biggest night. He later performed "I See the Light" from "Tangled" with Mandy Moore. 

Best supporting actress nominee Amy Adams rocked navy blue at the 2011 Oscars, opting for this sequined cap-sleeved L'wren Scott design. When it came to accessorize the fitted frock, the star — who scored a nod for her work in "The Fighter" that year — added jewelry with emerald gemstones. 

Helen Mirren went with a dark gray Vivienne Westwood number featuring gathered three-quarter-length sleeves, lots of ruching and a small train detail. The actress was a presenter later that evening. 

Best supporting actress nominee Helena Bonham Carter's quirky style never changes. So this Colleen Atwood look came as no surprise — from the funky black striped sleeves to the corseted bodice paired with a full black skirt. That year, the actress received a nod for her work in "The King's Speech." 

Hilary Swank's silver Gucci number made a splash on the Oscars red carpet in 2011. The strapless couture piece featured a sequin-embellished bodice that gave way to a feathered ombre skirt that flowed from pale silver to dark gray. The actress was on hand as a presenter at that year's festivities. 

A year before they were married, Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves attended the Academy Awards together in these sleek looks. Camila opted for a sleeveless ballgown with a plunging neckline, while presenter Matthew went for a timeless tuxedo and bow tie ensemble.

Cheryl Hines kept it simple in black! The actress sported a straightforward gown with a sweetheart neckline, ruching at the hip and train detail at the 2011 show.

A tulle skirt gone awry! Marisa Tomei rocked a vintage Charles James design that included thin straps, a fitted bodice and a mermaid-like silhouette thanks to its asymmetrical tulle skirt. 

Russell Brand rocked navy and black for his gig as a presenter at the Oscars that year, selecting a blue tuxedo with black lapels, a checkered black-and-blue dress shirt and a black skinny tie.

Another skinny tie! "The Social Network" star Jesse Eisenberg kept things classic in a tux and white dress shirt combo, adding a trendy skinny tie and black dress shoes to complete his look. He was up for best actor that night for his work in "The Social Network."

Florence Welch can always be counted on to deliver a killer fashion moment! The British music star arrived at the 2011 Academy Awards in this beautiful pale yellow Valentino gown with long sleeves, a lacy patterned bodice and a tiered, ruffled skirt. Later that night, she performed "If I Rise" from "127 Hours." 

2011 was a simpler time for Armie Hammer. The "Social Network" actor arrived in a tuxedo with a white dress shirt, a black bow tie and black dress shoes.

Busy Phillips played it safe in this black gown in 2011. The strapless frock had a sweetheart neckline, an oversized bow detail at the waist and a mermaid-style skirt that was on-trend that year.
