Best looks from Oscar nominees during award season 2018

The Academy Awards are right around the corner and our excitement is palpable. On March 4, 2018, we'll get to see our favorite celebs in their finest fashion — and see who will win the Oscars. In honor of this year's nominees, Wonderwall.com is taking a look at their best red carpet looks so far during the 2018 award season… starting with Margot Robbie, who's up for a best actress in a leading role Oscar for her work in the biographical drama "I, Tonya." The Aussie star hit up the 2018 Golden Globe Awards in a black satin Gucci gown featuring an elaborate silver sequin bow design, puffy shoulders and a dramatic plunging neckline. Keep reading to see more 2018 Oscar nominees primped and polished on the award show red carpets…

Saoirse Ronan — who's up for her second Oscar, this time for best actress for her performance in "Lady Bird" — was the picture of elegance at the 2018 SAG Awards (where she was nominated for two awards for the same role). The Irish star wore this creamy pink floor-length gown by Louis Vuitton with silver detail and a thigh-high slit. The long sleeves and loose satin belt were a plus, giving the gown an added element of sophistication. Not pictured: Saoirse's gorgeous red-bottom Christian Louboutin heels.

Just two weeks before the SAG Awards, "Lady Bird" star Saoirse Ronan set the fashion bar high when she arrived at the 2018 Golden Globes (where she won for best actress in a musical or comedy) in a structured black-and-silver recommissioned Versace gown. Although the unofficial dress code for the night was all-black in support of the Time's Up movement, Saoirse had a little fun by selecting a gown with a silver asymmetrical waist panel and daring silver shoulder. In an extra show of support for the movement, Saoirse and her stylist made sure everything she wore to the Globes was designed by women.

Daniel Kaluuya looked sharper than a chef's blade at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards in this traditional tuxedo by Gucci. The "Black Panther" star is nominated for an Oscar for best lead actor in the racially charged mystery thriller "Get Out." (He was also nominated for a Golden Globe for the same role — and won a rising star prize at the BAFTAs.) After the Globes, Daniel donated his tuxedo to be auctioned off by Condé Nast in support of the Time's Up legal defense fund.

Mary J. Blige is enjoying an epic year following the success of "Mudbound," which earned her numerous nominations including an Oscar nod for best supporting actress. The R&B singer-turned-movie star was seen at the Critics' Choice Awards (where she was also nominated for best supporting actress) looking sexy and svelte in a glittering metallic Vivienne Westwood gown. Fun fact: Mary was also celebrating her 47th birthday at the awards on Jan. 11, 2018.

Mary J. Blige took her fashion game to the next level just 11 days later at the 2018 SAG Awards, where she was up for outstanding performance by a supporting actress for her work in "Mudbound" as well as best performance by a cast along with her co-stars. Wearing a stunning black-and-white one-shoulder evening gown by Jean-Louis Sabaji with intricate feathering detail across the bust, Mary slayed the red carpet with a smile.

Allison Janney, who's up for an Oscar for best supporting actress in "I, Tonya," proved that the all-black dress code at the 2018 Golden Globes didn't have to be boring. Allison went for the drama in this stunning long-sleeved black-and-white evening gown from Mario Dice that featured a sheer butterfly design on the bodice. Perhaps the look was a token of good luck, as Allison ended up winning the Golden Globe for best supporting actress that night.

Handsome Timothee Chalamet is nominated for his first Oscar for his work in the romantic drama "Call Me By Your Name." The 22-year-old actor (who also had a role in the hit film "Lady Bird") arrived at the 2018 SAG Awards in a tailored all-black suit and rocking a skinny tie. Timothee also had a beautiful date waiting in the wings — his mom, Nicole Flender.

Octavia Spencer rocked one of our favorite looks for award season 2018 at the Critics' Choice Awards. The actress, who's nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actress for her work in "The Shape of Water," gleamed in this sheer royal purple evening gown from Tadashi Shoji. The bodice of the dress features a delicate lace pattern with shimmery purple satin trim that gives way to a flowing accordion-pleated skirt.

Three days earlier, Octavia Spencer arrived at the 2018 Golden Globes (where she was nominated for best supporting actress) in a black gown in support of the Time's Up movement, which seeks to end sexual harassment and achieve pay parity in Hollywood and elsewhere. The actress once again shined in a glittery Tadashi Shoji dress, this one featuring a V-neck and a billowing three-quarter-length skirt. Octavia paired the look with black Jimmy Choos and drop earrings from Irene Neuwirth.

Greta Gerwig is having an undeniable moment in Hollywood, thanks to the hit film she wrote and directed, "Lady Bird," starring Saoirse Ronan. The movie earned Greta (who's also a noted actress) two Oscar nominations for best screenplay and best achievement in directing. Proving she's not just a talented filmmaker, Greta showed off her impeccable sense of style at the 2018 SAG Awards in this heavily embellished mustard-colored gown from Bottega Veneta. Playing on the hints of red in the gown, Greta paired her dress with crimson lips and dangling Irene Neuwirth earrings.

Greta Gerwig looked even more amazing at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards (where she was nominated for best screenplay) in this one-shoulder sculpted Oscar de la Renta evening gown. Contrasting against the rich black velvet of her dress was Greta's vintage feathered gold-and-diamond necklace, which gave her a Cleopatra-like vibe we loved.

Meryl Streep earned her 21st Oscar nomination for her work in "The Post" in 2018. But before Oscar nods were announced, she attended the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards (where she was nominated for best performance by an actress) with Ai-jen Poo, the director for the National Domestic Workers Alliance, wearing a black off-the-shoulder Vera Wang gown and a simple, elegant updo. The women joined dozens of stars who also wore black to support the Time's Up movement.

Laurie Metcalf's come a long way since her days on "Roseanne." The "Lady Bird" star — and best supporting actress oscar nominee — arrived at the 2018 Critics' Choice Awards (where she was also nominated for best supporting actress) looking absolutely glam. Her sleeveless powder-blue Cristina Ottaviano evening gown featured gorgeous ruching at the neckline and gave way to an elongated mermaid skirt with a flowing train. She paired the dress with a perfectly matched clutch.

Denzel Washington and wife Pauletta were stunning in all-black attire at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards. Denzel, who received a best actor Oscar nod for his performance in "Roman J. Israel, Esq.," was also nominated for a Golden Globe for best actor in a drama. Denzel and Pauletta decided to use their fashion to support the Time's Up movement but didn't sacrifice on style. Denzel's single-breasted black tuxedo with black shirt perfectly complemented Pauletta's black satin and lace gown.

Nominated for best lead actress in "The Shape of Water," Sally Hawkins was all about making a fashion statement at the 2018 SAG Awards. Instead of an evening gown, Sally — who's up for best actress at the Oscars too — wore this colorful striped high-neck jumpsuit from Christian Dior Couture paired with red velvet heels and a matching clutch.

British star Lesley Manville — who's up for a best supporting actress Oscar for her performance in "Phantom Thread" — arrived on the red carpet at the BAFTAs (where she was nominated in the same category) straight after performing on stage in "Long Day's Journey Into Night" in London's West End. After shedding her costume,Lesley slipped into a gorgeous black one-shoulder gown featuring asymmetrical banding. Fun fact: Lesley and ex-husband Gary Oldman — who left her just a few months after she gave birth to their son, cameraman Alfie Oldman, in the late '80s — are both up for Oscars in 2018.

Gary Oldman (seen here with his new wife, Gisele Schmidt) attended the 2018 SAG Awards in a handsome navy blue tuxedo with black detail. The "Darkest Hour" star is up for an Oscar for best actor and was nominated for a SAG Award in the same category (which he won).

Frances McDormand gives zero f—- and isn't afraid to show it. Nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe for best lead actress for her performance in "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" (the latter of which she won), Frances attended the Globes in a black dress with long sleeves and a drawstring waist, purposely declining to glam it up. Seen here giving her expletive-laced acceptance speech, Frances also skipped makeup for the night, proving she's her own woman, no matter where she is.

Husband-and-wife screenwriting duo Emily V. Gordon and Kumail Nanjiani are both nominated for an Oscar for best original screenplay for their hit indie film, "The Big Sick." The couple arrived on the SAG Awards red carpet (where Kumail and his "Big Sick" co-stars were up for outstanding performance by a cast) dressed to impress — him in a classic black tux and her in a shimmery chocolate evening gown with a playful crossed neckline and single cold-shoulder sleeve.

Legendary Canadian actor Christopher Plummer has a lot to smile about. After signing on last-minute to replace Kevin Spacey in 2017's "All the Money in the World," the star earned several nominations, including an Oscar nod for best supporting actor. At the 2018 Golden Globes (where he was also nominated for best supporting actor), Christopher added a pop of color to his tuxedo by donning a red handkerchief in his breast pocket and a pink-and-white shirt. Fun fact: At 88, Christopher is the oldest person ever to receive an Oscar acting nomination. He's also the oldest person ever to win an acting Oscar (he took home the statue in 2011 for his work in "Beginners").

Sam Rockwell hit up the 2018 Golden Globes with longtime love Leslie Bibb by his side. Both wore black to support the Time's Up movement. Sam, who's up for an Oscar for best supporting actor for his work in "Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri," also won the award in the same category at the Golden Globes.

Jordan Peele used to be that guy from "Key and Peele" but now the actor, writer and director is known as that guy who wrote and directed one of the most talked-about films of 2017, "Get Out." The film garnered him three Oscar nominations including best picture, best director and best screenplay. Jordan looked crisp and classy in a classic black tuxedo at the 2018 SAG Awards, which he attended with wife Chelsea Peretti.

Willem Dafoe is nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actor for his work in "The Florida Project." Standing alongside his wife, Italian film director and actress Giada Colagrande at the 2018 SAG Awards, Willem kept it classy in a traditional-fit tuxedo with a navy skinny tie.

Woody Harrelson (seen here with his "The Glass Castle" co-star Brie Larson) is up for an Academy Award for best supporting actor for his work in "Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri." While Woody's known as an eccentric star, his sense of style at the 2018 SAG Awards was anything but. Woody, who enjoyed best supporting actor and ensemble cast nods (they won!), wore an all-black tuxedo with a skinny black tie that made his baby blues shine. (Brie didn't look so bad either in a floral Gucci gown with crystal embellishments.)

Richard Jenkins, who's nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actor for his performance in "The Shape of Water," stood in solidarity with women at the 2018 Golden Globes — and looked sharp doing it — in a black tux, shirt and bow tie as well as a Time's Up pin.
