Kim Kardashian made her MTV VMAs debut in 2011 in a pewter Kaufman Franco gown. The reality TV star, who presented the award for best male video that night, was very on-trend, as many celebs opted for metallic frocks at the 2011 show.
Adele opted for a demure Barbara Tfank midi-length dress at the 2011 VMAs, where she took home three awards (and was nominated for seven!). Adele's conservative frock and bouffant hairstyle wouldn't have worked for anyone but her.
Demi Lovato leaned in hard to the metallic trend in 2011. The singer, who presented that year, wore a gunmetal gray dress with a deep-V neckline, matching pumps and shimmery silver eye makeup.
Presenter Selena Gomez stunned in a black lace-trimmed high-low gown by Julien Macdonald. Selena, then 19, looked glamorous and mature in the dress that she accessorized with golden shoes, jewelry and a clutch.
Miley Cyrus looked elegant in a Roberto Cavalli gown with her hair pulled back in 2011. The then-18-year-old singer-actress looked trendy and mature as she presented an award alongside Olympian Shaun White.
Britney Spears was honored at the 2011 VMAs with two awards and a dance tribute featuring 10 of her best songs. She arrived wearing a black sequined playsuit and peep-toe platform booties.
Nicki Minaj took home the award for best hip-hop video for "Super Bass" in 2011 in a wild Harajuku-inspired look. Nicki's outfit looked a bit like she fell into a children's toy closet, and her colorful face mask was 10 years ahead of its time.
Katie Holmes attended the 2011 award show, held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, as a presenter for the prestigious video of the year award. Katie kept her look simple in a banded lace overlay Alaia dress and brown suede Proenza Schouler lace-up booties.
Zoe Saldana's dress in 2011 was pure perfection. The actress wore a Barbara Bui LBD with golden embellishments. The only miss? Balenciaga snakeskin platform sandals that didn't match the look.
Kelly Rowland's black Falguni & Shane minidress was also a smashing success with its gold embellishments and feathered skirt. The singer's spiky Christian Louboutin heels were equally fierce.
In 2011, Justin Bieber was still trying to find his swag. The teen singer wore bright red pants, a black blazer over a black tee, animal-print sneakers and gold chains and glasses when he walked the red carpet.
Maria Menounos stood out in the crowd in a green cocktail dress by Amanda Wakeley.
Jenni "JWoww" Farley upped the ante, improving on her typical "Jersey Shore" club attire, when she walked the VMAs red carpet in 2011 in a super-sparkly super-short dress with a deep-V neckline and wide sleeves.
Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola wasn't afraid to lean into some "Jersey Shore" trends with her mixed animal-print one-shouldered dress. What made her look more Hollywood and less Seaside Heights were her silver clutch and loose curls.
Presenter Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi strutted her stuff in a strapless orange-and-black Ema Savahl cocktail dress encrusted with an abstract design. The reality star accessorized her look with chunky gold jewelry and tall neutral pumps.
Deena Nicole Cortese was not afraid to stand out at the MTV VMAs, which were held on Aug. 28 that year. The then-newest "Jersey Shore" castmate chose a rainbow-striped strapless minidress covered in sequins.
Victoria Justice, who introduced Chris Brown at the 2011 show, dazzled in a Theia dress covered in tiny silver tassels and gold beading.

Jessie J did not let a broken foot squash her style. The British singer paired her blinged-out cast and crutches with a strapless blinged-out bodysuit, white footless jeweled tights and a single glittery slipper.
Holland Roden paired a white bustier top with a shiny silver peplum skirt in 2011. The actress wore her hair down in messy waves and sported a red lip, giving the look the touch of glamour it needed for an awards show night.
Ashley Rickards rocked a '60s vibe in a draped yellow dress that flattered her figure. The look would have been a complete hit if it wasn't for the feathery collar along her clavicle, which dragged down the elegance of the look.
Skylar Grey showed up to the 2011 awards show in a very-Avril Lavigne circa 2002 look. The singer-songwriter wore low-rise striped pants and a cropped turtleneck and accessorized with sky-high maroon lace-up boots and a wallet chain.
Singer Jojo wore an LBD with a tough exterior. Her leather dress featured a bustier, sheer panels and an overpowering bubble skirt.
Singer Rebecca Black looked a bit out of place on the red carpet in this banal look: a black satin blazer with matching shorts and a lace shirt over a cami.
Louise Roe chose a Tibi halter-style maxidress back in 2011. The Brit's taupe frock with a colorful, jeweled neckline struck the right note that night.
Kat Deluna looked demure in a gray-and-black woven one-shouldered dress, but those loud black-and-pink heels dragged it down.
