It's the royal gift that keeps on giving!
Princess Sofia of Sweden debuted yet another new look for her wedding tiara on April 23. At a palace dinner held in honor of Finland's newly elected President Alexander Stubb, the Swedish royal wore the stunning headpiece topped for the first time with a unique collection of dark-hued London blue topaz gemstones, the fashion blog UFO No More reported.
The deep blue color atop one of her favorite tiaras added an extra dose of drama to Sofia's look, which included a navy Oscar de la Renta gown.
It was also the seventh setting the princess has given the Palmette Tiara since she first wore the piece — a gift from husband Prince Carl Philip's parents, King XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia — on her wedding day in 2015. Since then, Sofia's tested out settings ranging from brilliant emeralds to eye-popping turquoise to soft pearls and more. She even had the shape of the base altered, giving it a softer appearance.

Princess Sofia debuted the Palmette Tiara on June 13, 2015, when she married Prince Carl Philip of Sweden at The Royal Palace in Stockholm. It was a surprise wedding gift earlier that day, according to The Court Jeweller.
The emeralds featured on the tiara reportedly came from an emerald necklace Prince Carl Philip's mother, Queen Silvia, was given by a Thai prince. Silvia is believed to have had the necklace "dismantled and redesigned" in Thailand for Sofia.

At some point between 2015 and 2017, Princess Sofia scrapped the tiara's original foundation — "a rigid, coronet-style base," per The Court Jeweller — and replaced it with the "more halo-shaped base and frame," seen here on Dec. 10, 2023.
The subtle difference created a softer profile on Sofia's head, especially when she wears the tiara without any topper gemstones, as she did one day after this photo was taken.

On Dec. 11, 2017, Princess Sofia — seen here with physics laureate Barry C. Barish at the Nobel Prize Awards Banquet — opted for pearls to top off the Palmette Tiara.
This was also one of the first times she wore the revised, halo-shaped base, according to The Court Jeweller.

Other gown styles have called for other tiara settings over the years. The pale pink, flower and ruffle-embroidered gown Princess Sofia wore to the Nobel Laureates Royal Dinner on Dec. 11, 2019, for example, looked gorgeous paired with a softer, all-diamond take on her wedding tiara.
According to The Royal Watcher, Ida Lanto created Sofia's gown, which she wore with Napoleonic amethyst earrings.

If the London blue topaz setting Princess Sofia showed off in 2024 was her wedding tiara's darkest hue yet, the most ethereal setting she's tried was probably this one.
On Dec. 10, 2022, the Swedish princess introduced a setting that featured "blue briolette-cut gemstone toppers," according to The Court Jeweller. She paired this crystalline take on the Palmette Tiara with matching earrings, a gauzy blue gown and a seafoam sash at the Nobel Prize Banquet at Stockholm's City Hall.

The stones on the tiara and earrings were topaz and the gown was another Ida Lanto creation, according to Hello Magazine.

Of all the looks Princess Sofia's tried for her wedding tiara, she seems to return most often to the emeralds her mother-in-law originally used when she gifted her the piece.
