Maren Morris is getting real about postpartum depression, which she experienced after the birth of her son, Hayes Hurd, in 2020.
While appearing on "The Howard Stern Show" in December 2023, the country music singer spoke about cutting her hair recently, saying she "cut all the trauma out of her hair." She then went on to detail her experience with postpartum depression in 2020 and 2021.
"I think I was just starting to make very little sense to myself and to people around me," she said. "I felt useless in the way of I couldn't work. I couldn't tour. Everything got canceled… I'm still working through this in therapy."

At the height of her postpartum depression, Maren Morris felt that her entire identity was tied to her career.
"It's a tough one when you've done something for so long to not think that that's you, even though you love it and it makes you a living, that's not who you are," she said on a December 2023 episode of "The Howard Stern Show." "So separating those things was helpful, getting on Zoloft was also really cool."
Maren was on the antidepressant for about a year.
"It's like you're living in the negative, the red, for a long time without realizing it. That your supply is so depleted of just serotonin, dopamine and a lot of that is just chemical," she said.

Things didn't go smoothly when Maren Morris welcomed her son, which occurred while the world was in lockdown amid the COVID pandemic.
"I had an emergency C-section — there were just a lot of things that didn't go to plan, but everyone's OK, everyone's healthy," she said on a December 2023 episode of "The Howard Stern Show."
"But the other side of that, which I've been vocal about, is that it's a lot on the mom and you love your baby, and you're obsessed with your baby, but oh my God your body has been through a violent thing and of course you're going to be affected emotionally, hormonally by it afterwards."

In October 2023, Maren Morris filed to divorce her husband of six years, singer-songwriter Ryan Hurd.
On a December 2023 episode of "The Howard Stern SHow," she said she's not dating yet.
"I don't have the headspace for that yet, but I'm writing so much right now. That's kind of been my way of dating, through song," she said.

Maren Morris first publicly opened up in detail about her postpartum depression with NBC in December 2022.
Since becoming a mother, she's felt the need to use her voice more about things that matter to her.
"I think it's gotten more galvanized since I've had my son, that I am really trying to make something beyond music," she said. "And I want people to look around at my shows and realize, 'OK, this is really loving, and safe, and comfortable.'"
