Jonathan Goodwin, the daredevil who nearly died in 2021 from a stunt during rehearsals for "America's Got Talent: Extreme," is laying blame on the production itself. In October 2023, the stuntman filed a lawsuit alleging that the show cut corners and didn't do enough to ensure the safety of its contestants.
In 2021, Jonathan was practicing for a dangerous stunt he planned to perform on the reality TV show — in the stunt, he hung upside down between two swinging cars while escaping from a strait jacket. Video shows Jonathan, who is hanging about two-stories high, escaping but still being sandwiched between the two suspended swinging vehicles, both of which burst into flames.

Stuntman Jonathan Goodwin was "catastrophically injured" during an Oct. 21, 2021, rehearsal at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Georgia, he said in court docs obtained by TMZ in October 2023.
At the time of Jonathan's incident, many people thought he was dead and the outlook certainly appeared bleak.
Jonathan survived, but he is now paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair.

Jonathan Goodwin still has mental, physical and emotional injuries from the "catastrophic, life-altering" incident, he says in the lawsuit.
After it happened, Jonathan's fiancée, "Sherlock" actress Amanda Abbington, said on Instagram: "He fell 30ft and lost a kidney, broke both shoulder blades, shattered both legs. Third-degree burns, broke his spine and severed his spinal cord and nearly died. And then on the operating table, he nearly died again."
She added, "Unless there's a kind of stem cell surgery, or that thing that Elon Musk is designing with the little chip, he'll be like that forever."

According to his social-media profile, Jonathan Goodwin now lives in his native England, where he practices hypnotherapy and is a screenwriter.
Last year, Jonathan's fiancée Amanda Abbington recalled her beau giving her a "Get Out of Jail Free" card if she wanted to leave the relationship knowing that he would never walk again. She stayed by his side then, and has continued to.
