Anne Heche died without a will; son petitions to control estate
Following her death following a car wreck last month, Anne Heche's son Homer Laffoon, 20, has formally requested to be named administrator of her estate, as the actress died without a will. Anne, 53, was rendered comatose and badly burned with damage to her lungs after she crashed her car into a house in Los Angeles on Aug. 5. She was taken off life support one week later. A court filing excerpted by People on Thursday, Sept. 1, says Anne's two heirs are Homer and his younger brother, 13-year-old Atlas Heche Tupper. "Homer Heche Laffoon is an adult and the proposed Administrator. Atlas Heche Tupper is a minor," the paperwork reads. The docs go on to request a "Petition for Appointment of Guardian ad Litem" for Atlas, according to People. As the outlet previously reported, Anne, who was cremated, is being laid to rest at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

Emma Heming Willis claps back at critics after post on living with grief
Bruce Willis' wife, Emma Heming, had the perfect response to haters who criticized her for a post about grief following Bruce's recent aphasia diagnosis. Quoting Bruce — whose family revealed in March that he's suffering cognitive decline as a result of the condition — Emma wrote on her Instagram Stories: "When you're not allowed to talk grief, self-care, or being human in the world on grief awareness day… But in the words of the great, philosophical, and insightful Bruce Willis… 'Ah, f*** 'em.'" Shared on Wednesday, Aug. 31, her post included screenshots of some of the reactions her initial comment about National Grief Awareness Day had sparked earlier in the week. "This was the summer of self discovery—finding new hobbies, going out of my comfort zone and staying active," she'd written on Tuesday alongside a video of herself gardening, working out and enjoying other activities. "My grief can be paralyzing but I'm learning how to live along side it," she concluded. According to her follow-up post on Stories (via Page Six), one commenter slammed Emma as a "drama queen," while another dissed her for having an "annoying victim attitude" about Bruce's situation. Wrote a third: "When you marry an old man DECADES older than you are, you become their caregivers. That's what you signed up for deal with it and stop complaining." In her response to the criticism, Emma, 44, included a video in which she says: "… in this crazy day and age of comments and, you know, people thinking they know you and the things and the situation — ah, f*** 'em." She then adds: "I hope that you get to use that quote as frequently as I get to use my husband's quote. I think he's been up for scrutiny for so many years and he's just built this ultra thick skin, and he could give two s**** I, on the other hand, give two s****.' But the, 'Ah, f*** 'em is highly helpful. So, I hope that I can pass that along to you so that you can use it in your life." In their March statement, Bruce's family, including Emma, his daughters and his ex-wife, Demi Moore, said he'd be stepping away from his acting career because of the aphasia.

Tennis great Serena Williams continued her U.S. Open reign on Wednesday, Aug. 31, when the 23-time Grand Slam champ beat Anett Kontaveit, ranked No. 2 in the world, advancing to the third round of what could be her final tournament. She did so with plenty of support from a star-packed USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City, where the throngs of fans cheering for the GOAT this week have included Tiger Woods, Zendaya, Gigi and Bella Hadid, Chelsea Handler, La La Anthony, Spike Lee, Dionne Warwick and tennis legend Billie Jean King. "It was a privilege to watch greatness," tweeted Tiger, who joined Serena's family, including her sister Venus Williams, in her player's box Wednesday. "Congrats @serenawilliams," Tiger added. Serena announced last month that she plans to "evolve away from tennis," and focus on expanding her family and other interests.

Olivia Wilde talks Florence Pugh, Harry Styles on-set chemistry
Ahead of next week's Venice Film Festival premiere of "Don't Worry Darling," the rumor mill has churned endlessly over an alleged falling out between the film's director, Olivia Wilde, and its star, Florence Pugh. Despite the negative buzz, however, a new interview published Thursday, Sept. 1, sees Olivia heaping praise on Florence as well as her co-star Harry Styles, who Olivia is reportedly dating. "They're both very loving people, and they knew that it's the little moments that differentiate a performative love from an authentic love," Olivia says of the stars' chemistry in an Interview magazine chat with Maggie Gyllenhaal. "[Florence is] ferociously talented," the director gushes. "She was so dogged in her pursuit of the most authentic version of every moment. She also knew that my real goal was to create a love story that felt so sincere between her and Harry that people would be incapable of not falling for them as a couple." Olivia's glowing remarks about the actress come as fans and industry outlets alike have wondered why Florence seems to be distancing herself from the project. As of Thursday, she wasn't promoting it on social media and according to THR, she won't be doing press for the film outside of her red-carpet appearance next week in Venice. Per THR, speculation about the seeming distance has ranged from claims Florence "was paid less than a third of what her male co-star" earned for the film to rumors related to Olivia and Harry's romance. (Florence, the outlet notes, just wrapped one film and is now shooting "Dune 2" in Budapest, which could explain her promo circuit silence.) Asked about working with Harry, Olivia said his other life as a musician inspires him to "work as hard as possible and to commit to the scene as hard as possible." "He never holds back," she added. "… Even if he was way off camera, he was so there for everyone, and for the crew and production. The tone that he set was just a very positive force."

J.K. Rowling's new book features character accused of transphobia: 'Sometimes life imitates art'
After facing allegations of transphobia herself, "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling has released a new book featuring a character who's canceled, then stabbed to death, after being branded "transphobic and racist," Rolling Stone reports. "The Black Ink Heart" is the latest edition of the crime series J.K. writes under the pen name Robert Galbraith. According to Rolling Stone, the book follows a YouTube content creator named Edie whose cartoons spark controversy. Edie's eventually "subjected to death and rape threats for having an opinion" before being "found stabbed to death in a cemetery," the outlet reports, adding that the author also "takes a clear aim at 'social justice warriors'" and appears to have been the "victim of a masterfully plotted, politically fueled hate campaign." In 2020, J.K. fueled massive backlash from the LGBTQ+ community as well as "Harry Potter" stars, Danielle Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, after she posted an essay on her website defending previous comments she's made about trans people. "I have never created a book — and this book certainly isn't created from my own experience — you know, with a view to talking about my own life," J.K. said of the novel on The Rowling Library blog. "That doesn't mean, of course, that your own life experience isn't in the book." She went on to say that while "a couple of the things that happened in this book have since happened to me," she has not "written this book as an answer to anything that happened to me." The author also admitted that "when it did happen to me," some of her manuscript readers wondered if she was "clairvoyant." But "it was just one of those weird twists," according to J.K., who added, "Sometimes life imitates art more than one would like."
Kanye West claims Adidas CEO is 'also dead' after similar Pete Davidson post
Kanye West announced plans this week to launch brick and mortar Yeezy shops across the U.S. — while taking more swipes at his brand partners, Adidas and Gap. "We are going to open a Yeezy stores world wide Starting in Atlanta," Ye wrote in an iPhone Note posted to Instagram on Wednesday, Aug. 31. "Who would be best to open it? I'll buy the land and or building Then we gonna up in every state and then internationally." From there, he encouraged "anyone who has over 10 years retail experience and is ready to change the world" to get in touch in the comments. He then switched to attack mode, taking aim once more at his partner companies and claiming he "saved" them. "I signed with both adidas and Gap because it contractually stated they would build permanent stores which neither company has done even though I saved both of those companies at the same time," Kanye wrote, adding, "Ima show you how to use social media." Subsequent screenshots in the post showed Ye on a FaceTime call with rappers 2 Chainz, who the Yeezy designer said is putting him in touch with the mayor of Atlanta, and Pusha T, who urged Ye to "Put us down for Virginia and Pennsylvania," and tagged his streetwear shop. After replying, "God is with us," Kanye resumed slamming Adidas, which he previously accused of stealing his design ideas. In another post, he shared a fake New York Times cover that said [Adidas CEO] "Kasper Rorsted Also Dead at 60." The "also" was clearly a reference to Ye's recent ""Skete Davidson dead at age 28" Times meme, which he posted after Pete Davidson split from Kanye's ex, Kim Kardashian, earlier this summer. The Adidas exec announced last week that he'll step down in 2023.
